Thanks, Allanswood - just the advice I was expecting. :D I'm also looking at local cruises like the dinner ones here: http://www.localsydneytours.com/sydney-cruises?_$ja=cgn:LSYDT+Sydney+Harbour+Cruise+SPECIFIC+(Canada) Thinking of the showboat one or the duluxe package - anybody familiar with them?...

Booked my night at the Sydney Opera House to see pianist Murray Perahia on Friday November 1. Mainly for the experience of going to the venue rather than the specific event - although he looks to be extremely talented judging by his YouTube videos.

By the way, does the Opera House have a dress code?

Plans are firming up. I now have a week booked in Hawaii as a stopover on the way home. Less expensive than Sydney, if you can believe that. I rented a room with a kitchenette in a hotel/condo a couple of blocks off of Wakiki Beach.

Thanks for the advice on the hotel. I'll get my travel agent to book it for a week.

Hutch, it would be great if you can make it - the more the merrier! :D

I really enjoy zoos. Don't know anything about animals, though.

Is there an aquarium or the like in the Sydney area?

Thanks for the suggestion Catweazel. Hi Brummie! :D At this point, I have not nailed down an itinerary. However, a trip to the zoo, a harbour cruise, and a day or two driving to sights of interest outside of the city seem very likely. If parking is difficult (and from the picture on the Best Western website I couldn't see a parking lot...

G'Day again! :D Checking online, the Vibe is pretty expensive. Best Western in Sydney seems pretty good, at least by the photos and reviews. Price is very reasonable. Looks like it's close to highways, so getting about seems to be no problem if I rent a car while I'm in town. Can anybody tell me abo...

I saw that tall ship one, Allanswood - looks very interesting. Because I have difficulty walking distances, I tend to very much enjoy passive sightseeing. Checked the Sydney Opera House - doesn't seem to be anything of interest to me when I am there, unless I stay longer to see Murray Perahia. Also looked at an "entertainment Sydney" site - probably too early to do that.

When is the Aussie rules football season?

I'm thinking there may be folks who have visited Sydney who may be able to recommend a bus tour of the city or the like.

I presume the bridge and opera house are "must see's". Maybe an opera, too? (Never been to one.) I'll check out the opera house site.
