Thank you. It was more likely to be M13L, especially at that date, but only by asking and obtaining dates can we ascertain when the MA13 De La Rue printings were first used. An uphill task, I fear, as we rely on the lower numbers being used on international mail.

Letters sent registered to Western countries would show proof of use, with the foreign backstamps and tracking. One has to actually find such material though. 8) True, but unfortunately a lot of western countries even in the 1990s didn't do any backstamping - US, UK, Canada etc. However, internal c...

Thank you, so which stamp is the £1.88 MA13 or M13L, and can you confirm the date which is little small for me!

The gold labels are properly referred to as Horizon labels; we don't have meters at the PO counter in the UK.

Wouldn't those ex-soviet stamps have more value on cover? The bogus local overprints are also found on cover. Doesn't mean the cover actually went through the mail, just required one to have a connection at the post office counter who would let you borrow the cancelling hammer. Absolutely. (No pun ...

To throw another stone in the water..... 1. After the break-up of the USSR many of the once-constituent-republics overprinted definitive (and some commemorative) stamps of the USSR for use in the newly independent republics. That accounted for many thousands of sheets of stamps. 2. Inflation meant t...

Ian, that was certainly the case with these cards, but they did have the magnetic strip which should have been OK? The new Concise catalogue has now arrived. Rather than renumbering every year, Gibbons decided to use 'a' and 'b' numbers where necessary for new stamps in a series. Don't spend another £11.11 just to get the Machins.

However, if you want all the stamps that will go into preprinted album pages, there will be the 11 footballers, 4 country stamps, and 5 Machins, which only leaves 5 Machins to use for postage.
