Hi, World,
I've been collecting stamps since my 8th birthday (1950, yikes!). Specializing in GB & Commw since around 1970. (But then, why do I have these other 15 boxes and bags of non-GB & Commw?)

Retired now, so starting to slowly dispose of my philatelic stuff to get a little pocket money (stress little). I guess eBay is my big source of fun in doing this.

Favorite thing right now is researching names, addresses, and postmarks on the covers I've accumulated over the years.

I've studied stamp stuff for years, but I'm still learning.

Living high and dry in Littleton, Colorado, at the base of the foothills of the Rocky Mountains southwest of Denver. (NO STICKY GUM ON MINT STAMPS! YAY!)

Hello from Las Vegas!

After a 20 year absence, I've decided to get back into collecting. As a high school student I worked part-time at a stamp store, pulling down winning items from their bid board at the whopping rate of $10 for 30 minutes of work...not bad if you can find it! :)

I've noticed throughout life, even though I've been away from the hobby, I've always known more than many of my friends about geography and currencies of the world thanks to my collecting days -- I'm excited to get back into the hobby.

I collect a hodgepodge of countries (mostly British Commonwealth and Asia), and every time I take a trip I find myself interested in that country's stamps too...

I've been reading the boards for a while now, and decided that it might be time to post some questions myself. As a former English teacher, I'll be sure to abide by all the rules, especially #17!

Thanks for the great info source, and I'm looking forward to becoming an active member of the boards.

--Craig

Hi all!! My name is Andy and I live on the central California coast on the Monterey Peninsula. I started collecting as a child, but the collection kind of fell by the wayside when I joined the Navy. I resumed collecting when I retired 24 years later. My areas of interest are U.S., Vatican City, Ukraine, Japan, Triest A and the other AMG european stamps. I found this board by accident and was really intrigued by the information that was being shared. Looking fortward to participating in some of the discussions.

Hello all new member in Belle River, Ontario - Name here is David and my primary hobbies are Amateur radio and I am an accredited examiner on behalf of Industry Canada for this hobby.

My call sign VA3AVP is my user name my second hobby currently is the building of a 1/1 full size scale astromech R2D2 fully functioning droid. My droid build is about 90 percent finished and it has been a fun year building my own R2D2. (I will post some pictures shortly).

My father now deceased was a Proffessor of history and a huge stamp collector most of his collection I have since sold off at auction through the Toronto auction houses. However from time to time more little discoveries seem to come up a few stamps here or there in this old box or in that drawer. So I joined the group for this kind of thing if I have questions on stamps.

I also although I don't consider myself a stamp collector do have a nice little collection of envelopes from other countries with stamps from trading QSL (radio cards) with other radio stations around the globe.

Cheers
David Pemberton VA3AVP

Welcome VA3AVP,

There is a Ham Radio Post cards topic that you might like to add to:-

http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=3008

I did a search and there were some other topics too, so if you do the same search you could find more info.

Hope you enjoy the forum.

Hi again VA3AVP. Have you ever heard of a writer by the name of Hammond Innes? He wrote a superb novel quite a few years ago called The Land God Gave to Cain, set mostly in the Labrador (a bit north of you?) and the major plot device was a freak radio signal sent from a Ham Radio Operator in Canada which arrived in England against all odds (I won't spoil the plot), and a heroes journey to discover the truth about what actually happened to a gold search expedition.

It is a great read if you like mysteries, and as Innes was a meticulous researcher, it would contain much interest to a Ham Radio Operator. You could probably get a copy off Amazon or in a second hand book shop. There is also quite a lot of information about the building of the Labrador Railway, which he actually visited several times during construction, and incorporated into the book.

My name is Mike and I have spent the last 3 years doing a loop around Australia with my wife in what we call our " Unit on Wheels". Now we are back in Brisvegas and I have to start the task of reducing my far too large stamp collection.

I went a touch mad in the 90's and invested in boxes and boxes of collections, FDC's, old books and stamp parafinalia. Hopefully, this site will assist me in leading me in the right direction. So, I look forward to chating from time to time.

Hello stamp collectors,
I am making this day, December 16, my first day in this site.
I have been collecting stamps for 30 years, although l am not that old !
Stamps became a strong passion, especially in the last years.
Sometimes l dedicated them 6,7 hours or even more...
I collect stamps from all over the world.
I do have some countries l focus more on them, though.
I collect used stamps basically, as l think mint stamps and cto stamps don't have a story of their own, for they never "traveled" anywhere.
I only collect mint stamps from Portugal ( my principal collection ), Laos up to 1975 ( gorgeous, but hard to get postally cancelled ), and Soviet Union cosmos issues.

However, l get more joy collecting worldwide canceled stamps.
I have big collections from Australia, Germany, France, Belgium, USA,Greece, Israel, among others.

Although l am a trader too, l have been on Ebay, Delcampe, Miau and some portuguese sites, l prefer to exchange with people from different parts.

I moved to Colombia this year, and l can tell you that from the point of view of a stamp collector, this country is a desert. Almost no mail. Very few collectors, mail services are almost nonexistent, slow and unreliable distribution, etc.

I still have a lot of material to trade, especially Portuguese mint stamps and of course many worldwide stamps.

Cheers!

Welcome tinobotafogo,

It is sad to think that you have moved to a country where stamp collecting is not catered for but look at it this way, you are now part of a world wide forum who only think about collecting :D

Hope you enjoy the forum.

Welcome dutchstamp,

What countries do you collect?

Please be sure to read the rules before you offer anything for sale as there are some rules that you will not meet yet.

Hope you will post in the forums and enjoy meeting fellow collectors.

Cheers....

Hi All

Well I’ve been a ‘lurker’ here for about a year now and have finally decided it’s probably time that I officially joined….

About 5 years ago when I semi retired from the ‘real world’ I decided to take a life long hobby and turn it into a business – hence Taylorstamps. I am a member of the CSDA and have a table at most of the major shows in Canada and also sell on Ebay as Taylorstamps1. You can look at my Ebay store at -- http://stores.ebay.ca/Taylors-Stamps

My collecting interests are early Canadian and Newfoundland and the Provinces. I am a member of several local and national clubs and also serve as Webmaster for the West Toronto Stamp Club, have a look.

That’s about it, I look forward to participating more on your forums

Rob

Welcome biglavalamp,

Not only are you from Scotland, but, you are from one of the most beautiful cities in the world, in my opinion that is.

I see you have already started posting so keep it up and enjoy!

Cheers....

Well ... I guess I'm the latest " newbie" on the board. I found this board a couple nights ago while trying to identify a stamp (more on that to follow) and decided it was time to get involved.

I'm old enough to be a sophisticated collector but alas am not at all. My collecting was mostly US until about 5 years ago. Even that was put on hold at 2000 when I finally got tired of trying to keep up with all the USPS junk. I started collecting world wide up to 1940 in a Scott Jr. classics album. That is my primary focus now but I also collect some specific countries like Israel, New Zealand and Costa Rica but generally only up to 1960 or so. I'm also a US perfin collector. I've acquired lots of philatelic stuff that I hope to be able to jettison with the help of this board as I don't think I'm sophisticated enough to try eBay.

I hope to be a contributing member of this board and will appreciate any and all help you may wish to give. THANKS.
jch

Welcome JohnHart,

I suppose we all think we should know it all after collecting for so many years but it is never the case as you know. The best part is you have now found the right place to learn more.

Hope to see you posting soon.

Cheers....

Hi all, my name is Lisa. I'm from Indiana in the US I picked up a couple of stamps several years ago from a vender at a dog show. I used to show Alaskan Malamutes and only picked these stamps up because they had sleddogs on them.
I recently became currious to know more info about them and wondered how much they may be worth. Thanks, this sounds like a very friendly and helpful Forum!
