WELCOME aboard ariel. Another member from Texas :!:

As soon as you post some images here we will be able to help you. Just follow the instructions included with your welcome message and perhaps use this thread http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=284 to practise.

You could also go to your local library to see if they have a copy of the Scott catalogue.

Welcome to Stampboards skilo54 & arielrobin

skilo54 if you want to learn about stamps then you have come to the right place. I learn something new everyday from the very knowledgeable memebers here. Enjoy yourself.

arielrobin 'don't cut, paste, decoupage or otherwise alter them' until you find out what they are. You may well have some nice stamps, then you can do what you like with the others :D Ask away....

Welcome Canadian neighbors. I spent many memorable summers in St. Thomas not far from London with fond memories of the uptown stamp/coin/ephemera establishment. My uncles in St. Thomas and Montreal both collected stamps, and drank Black Horse IPA. Great memories.

Hi there,

This is my first post. I am Erik from the Netherlands. I collect all (used) stamps, but specialize in the Netherlands and UK. Besides that I also collect motorsports on stamps.

When I got hold of some perfins and recently a few stamps with private overprints I had to find out what they were and ended up on this forum.

I hope to enjoy the messages about topics I never heard of before. For there is much to learn.

Hi all :) pretty new to stamp collecting and a total newb at it I mainly collect british stamps but do have stamps from all over the world (boxes and boxes still to be sorted) I've never bought a stamp or a collection from ebay i've been preety lucky with bootsales and stamp fairs bought a suitcase full of stamps from a gent at a bootsale about a year ago for £5 and met a few friends through stamp collecting so we do a lot of "swaps". I got my first stamp from my nan when I was about 5 but never took any big intrest until a year or so ago....

I'm going to have a good browse around the forum and see if I can find a few things I can't seem to find anywhere else (wish I had an SG world album sometimes) might have to post some scans though to find out what they are.

I'll stop waffling now :) and I hope to get to know some of you :)

Hi to all,
It has taken this old guy quite a time to hook up.
I have been reading posts since they started but scared off by all this computer stuff!
I wondered what a wiki was and found I could not get into the secret world so I set myself a task to join in.
I am in Melbourne and a member of a stamp club.
King George Five and Six are my passions, however Rod Perry set me thinking about my various covers and I enjoy these also.

Good to have you with us smokey1 - a big WELCOME

There are plenty willing to help and there are forums for those new to bulletin boards and also those wanting to ask basic questions.

Join in and have some fun.

Greetings to all members of stampboards,

My name is Robbie McDonald, posting to this site in my role as Secretary of the Philatelic Society of Western Australia. This may well be the first time that our society has had electronic media representation. So to all of you out there who wish to contact the PSWA feel free to contact me.

Being new to the forum I am still finding my way around but the main purpose of joining was to advertise our syllabus for 2010. I shall post this on the web site in the next few days.

For those among you with specific questions about Western Australian philately or postal history there are a number of high profile collectors in our society.

As I am not am expert in these fields it may take a little to provide a response. I shall do my best. Otherwise I look forward to meeting some of you in the future.

Best regards,
Robbie

Hi everyone! I began collecting stamps when I was about 6 - my uncle gave me his mostly USA and Canada collection - and I am now in high school and still collecting :) I have the Mystic Heirloom Album so I focus on USA stamps and am now going into Israel.

I am not really into worldwide stamps because I have nowhere to display them :( It discourages me from collecting them.

Although I do have a thick stockbook of neatly arranged stamps from all over, worldwide stamps just don't get my attention. I am a pretty boring collector, I guess.

I'm glad I found this site. I've already had a look around and I am in awe of the extensive knowledge of all the collectors on board (pun not intended). I look forward to learning a lot from all of you!

PS - I know I need an avatar so don;t shoot me please, I have no time this weekend, but I will get to it!

Hi

I am a danish man 60 years old. Under rebuilding my house I found 2 big boxes with my over 40 years old stamp collection.

When I looked it over I fell in love again, as the 40 years never existed. When I was a boy I collected GB especially the wildings definitives with all that different watermarks and "funny" stripes on front and back.

When I was young I was able to know sideways and sometimes inverted watermarks from the front, because these stamps are printed in a little different way. As a part of my collection is from kiloware, it was easy to sort out the interessting stamps whitout washing the hole bunch.

I also found constant sheet varieties(flaws), which I still think is very exciting, but I need modern information, which is difficult to find. I think the most interessting stamp I have found is the Wilding 1shilling brown double printed.

A lot has happened in the 40 years. The value of the stamps has fallen, and now it is possible to buy stamps that wasn't for sale at the time. But post offices has since inflated in printing to many commemorative stamps and minisheets.

It also seems to me that the big catalogue makers hasn't discovered the possibilities in the web, but may be they are protecting their business.

Thank you very much letting me join this forum - and I also has got a lot of help in formulating my question - that's nice. :D

I think everyone on this forum (or nearly everyone), would agree that the post-offices around the world are issuing far too many commemoratives! :D

Hello from frosty Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

My main collecting interest are the NWPI issues of New Guinea. Have been accumulating these for the last 40 years. Especially interested in the 1st to 4th settings and plating the Geo V/Roos.

A second area, that I basically neglect due to the first interest, are the Second Issue NZ postage dues. Enjoy plating these.

Member of BSAP, ACCCNSW & APS. Former longtime member of PPS & SAS/Oceania as well.

To better research my plating interests, I have progressed from using a binocular microscope to creating a virtual stamp collection. I have begun scanning my collection, preferring to use Adobe Photoshop to view my collection.

You will surely enjoy yourself here as I have done for the last couple of months. Too much time according to my wife. Maybe she's right, it is addictive.

Hello
I am joining in for the first time.
My particular interest is in Australian perfins, particularly Victorian government, 'VG' perfins.
Also Australian Antarctic Territory and Australian variations are something I want to learn about.
Other than that I like swapping, generally, many countries, for the interest and variety. Happy to help people with looking for items that I may have in my spares.

Welcome RolftheGanger

It seems one of the Mods has moved your post to the right place, here :D

Have a look around and see what's, what. Read the rules of the forums as I noticed you were right off the mark in the swap forum and you aren't allowed to benefit yet but you will soon.

If you are looking for any topic in particular there is the "SEARCH" function at the top of each page which is very helpful, so if the topic has already been started just add to it, if not start one yourself.

Just ask if you have any problems and a helpful member will assist you.

Cheers....

I live in Elliot Lake, Ontario, Canada and have been actively collecting cancelled stamps for many years. Initially they were for my mother's stamp album.

Over many years the stamps lay in a drawer and then I became the owner of the stamps.

I have since put all the stamps in albums and collect all stamps but mostly keep up with all Canadian Stamps. I have a number of trader's for any one wishing to trade. JGrumm

Hi All,

I have been reading this board for a few months now and have learned much. I have collected stamps for about 30 years (since I was 6), but consider myself a novice philatelist.

I collect WW 1840 to 1940 or a bit later for select countries like US, Canada, GB, Commonwealths, Germany, France and a few others. My specialized interest is in finely engraved stamps of any era or issuer, such as the Canadian Bluenose stamp or most work by engraver Czeslaw Slania. I also collect SOTN(CDS) US stamps.

My philatelic studies have started with the early issues of Paraguay, a country with a fascinating and dramatic history.

I currently reside in the Chicago suburbs and have recently got involved with the local stamp scene. Learning a lot there too.

Thanks to another member (from Finland) for recommending this board!

Greetings!

I'm a "born again" collector in Silver Spring, Maryland. About a year ago, I revived my interest in philately, which had lain dormant all these years.

My focus is primarily on the British Commonwealth and India, although I'm curious and interested in postal history of virtually any part of the world. I travel a lot for my job, and I hope to use the opportunities it presents to further my hobby.

As a matter of fact, I'm going to be in Juba and Addis Ababa next week. I wonder whether there are any members of this board who live in those cities, especially the latter. I look forward to hearing from you.

If you are in the Washington area, do give me a shout.

Vikram

Welcome kclark

I've noticed you have already started posting, good work.

Just a little advice for your future posts....the MODS hate shorthand, so try using whole words or they'll be on you like a ton of bricks

Hi all,

I have been a hoarder / accumulator for 60+ years.

I now live in Canberra, Australia having lived and worked in the UK, Ireland, Singapore and New Zealand before coming to Oz.

Somehow, and I still cannot believe my luck, I am enrolled in a Ph.D. course with the subject of "Science on stamps".

I have an interest to contact anyone else travelling this path, (or similar), and to learn of any existing literature / documentation / papers you can recommend.

I send members every best wish.

Yes, and thank you.

I have looked at the University of Buffalo site previously. It is marvelous.

I also knew the University of Frankfurt role of 'physicists' wher there are some great images.

I am only a few months into my project and still looking at everything that is available so that I do not replicate any work already done. I am enjoying the adventure.

Hello fellow stampboarders,

My name is Steve and I live in Melbourne Australia, and this is my first post. My collecting interests are Australian KGV's - all values, especially the 1/2d. I also collect postal history and postal stationery generally relating to the KGV era. Hopefully I can contribute something along the way, particularly the topics regarding Australian KGV heads.

Regards,

Steve

Welcome Steve,

You should feel right at home on here with what you collect, join in the discussions already started or start a new one if you can't find one that has.

Use the 'Search' to see if a topic already exists, I find it really useful.

Have a good browse.

Cheers......
