Hi
I was sorting my stamps, and just noticed that this Bahrain war tax stamp from 1973, MR1 in Scott, is valued in this catalogue at $125 / $85.

Are this value right? Are my stamp genuine?
The reason of my surprise is... I found this stamp in a 5c box. And I mean AR$0.05, that is $0.01 !

Regards
Ernesto

If it is genuine, you have lucked out. Gibbons (2010) lists it at £130/£85.

Would somebody forge something like that? Well on the one hand the design is simple, it could be easy to forge...but given that its from the Middle East, probably no one over there would do so, the punishment is probably to have your head separated from your shoulders.

Hi,

Another question about a Bahrain War Tax stamp:

Image

I found this in a small collection of Bahrain. It looks genuine enough to me, but I am uncertain. (The overprint looks as if it was a victim of being washed off the envelope.)

Any other opinions?

Thanks,
AndrewG

It looks to me a pretty ordinary copy of S.G. 139 (Cat. 20p) with a blobby blurry cancellation. Why do you think that it is a War Tax stamp?

I think the first stamp is overvalued. There are actually more of them around than SG thinks. On cover they have moved to rare and closer to that value.

This is a clearer example of the 5 fils provisional stamp:

It was issued before the first 5 fils tax stamp.

The provisional 5 fils stamp seems to have been overprinted after the stamp was on cover.

Best wishes,
AndrewG

I don't find that totally surprising. Yours is the October issue. The December issue is common as muck, roughly the same colour, and has the same 3 lines of arabic script, albeit in a slightly different order. Easiest thing in the world for a dealer from any Latin Script country who regards all arabic text as 'a load of funny scribble' to think, 'Oh no. Another one of those War Tax things.' and throw it straight into the cheap box.

I found one of those (the Scott MR1 not the handstamp on the postage stamp) in a €0.04 box today. If I hadn't seen this thread I wouldn't have bought it  .

Appearantly it is not rare at all. The cheapest one on Delcampe is at a fixed price of €12. Of course on eBay they're more expensive.

Can anyone find one of those MR1 stamps for me? eBay prices seem inflated to me

The only way to get a cheap one is by looking for lot's of Bahraini Stamps.

I got my copy with a group of stamps for less than 5 US$, but I search for "Bahrain" on eBay a few dozen times per day, so it was relatively easy for me to find one.

Are you creating an anti Israel collection?, if you are I would be interested in seeing it.

Regards,

The cheapest one on Delcampe is this example on cover (but uncancelled) at $30:

On ebay prices start from $45 for a single.

I have a HUGE anti-Israel collection. I am an exhibitor on this field. If you want to talk, we can do it offline.

I am still on the lookout.
