Ever since I acquired an 1854 Queen Victoria 4 anna stamp I have been wondering about this question.

Are there any unused stamps of this value available. I have seen (photos) of half anna, 1 anna & 2 anna stamps in unused condition but apart from a graphic creation of a 4 anna mint I have never seen it up for auction or on any discussion.

I guess that even if available, buying such a stamp in mint condition would require a large bank balance hence this question is just for knowledge purpose.

Gibbons quote prices (2013 Part 1) for the unused 4 Anna, ranging from £6,500 to £28,000. They will only come up for sale at fairly rarefied auctions :D

Thanks Tony for your comments. Yes it would be pretty rare i guess. However was just amazed to have not even seen a single photo of this stamp in an unused condition.

In December 2012, a very good copy with large margins sold for £15000. It was head die 1, Frame Die 1.

Unused copies of 4 Annas are very rare, also some of the dies of half anna and one anna are rare.

Thanks for the link to the image Peterh.
The economic situation at that time would also not make it feasible for the common public to buy a stamp and not use it.
