John, the India Study Circle journal India Post has carried a great deal of information about this over the years. If you're seriously interested in this area, it would be well worth joining the Circle. You can then buy the archive CD of 50 years of India Post, and discuss the question with experienced collectors. The Web site is http://www.indiastudycircle.org/index.html.

You can start by buying an excellent catalogue named " Postal Stationary of British India 1856-1947" by Pratisad Neurgaonkar. The IInd edition is revised and Prices updated.

There is another excellent catalogue by Mr. Lang and another by Mr. Manik Jain(which is bit outdated).I refer all three but I would suggest Mr.Pratishad's book as it has color illustrations and gives price indications for reference purposes.

By the way I am posting one of the rarity of British India postal stationary:

The numeral '4' is reversed in right hand panel. This is on Lang type CC4 which is rarer than the other type CC3.
For the record both these types were emergency printing at Calcutta during IInd world war when the printing of postcards were shifted from De La Rue -UK to India.

Robson Lowe British Empire in Asia volume also has a full list of postal stationary issued by British India with all relevant details of each type, if a list is all you want.

Yes, at the Bridger Kay site, check the 'philatelic literature' section from their drop down menu on the right-hand side top of the homepage.

Or better yet, like one of us suggested above, give a search for "Postal Stationary Of British India 1856-1947 Guide Book" on eBay India, and you can pick up this fabulous handbook for below Rs 500 from Indian Stamp Company.
