I love cooking. When I was about 12, my mother decided that Saturday was her day off from cooking. So on Saturdays, my father, sister and I cooked. When I went to university I was amazed at how useless the other guys were at making food! My flatmate once forgot to boil the water when making tea! (that's not a joke  )
Having been vegetarian for half of my life now, all of Draccae's list looks great to me.....maybe I could find a meal in Texas if I ever go there

Anyway....some of my favourites:

Quorn Tikka Masala
Tomato and Lentil soup, with Korean style rice and seaweed side dish.
Veggie Burger, new potatoes and broccoli straight from the garden.
Hummus on rice cakes with tomatoes.
My own home made pizzza.
Pasta and pesto sauce.
Cheese and Onion Pasty from the local baker back home mmmmmmmmm

My wife is Persian, and just about everything she makes is delicious. I especially like kebabs made on our bar-b-que.

Also, brisket served with mash potatoes with loads of fried onions mixed in.

My kids really like my grilled cheese sandwiches. (They are pretty good)

I love the last two mentioned! Time for some more mouthwatering pics (I just couldn't resist - iomoon's given me an idea:

Jacket Potato-type thing

Lovely desert:

While I'm at it, I also love crêpes with ice-cream and maple syrup, and a Bûche de Noël (I like making that one too).

And of course, who doesn't like scones with strawberry jam and a generous blob of fresh cream. In England (Durham anyway) there had some doughnut-like sticky buns called "Yum-Yums" and they really were yum!

The question was "what is your favorite food", you can't have seven "favorite foods" like WEIRD AL.

What, implies one.

I love Draccae's list! Right now mine is Raspberries.. and Hummus. But not together! I am also addicted to those Green Energy Smoothies! Some of my all time favorites include: Malai Kofta, Mexican Queso Flamiado and my green lentil soup with fresh bread.

I like Mondays at school. Shorter school day, (we get out at 1:50PM instead of 2:30PM), and the special for lunch is Sausage Pizza.

Sounds like you guys have a cafeteria lunch, like I had in England (although are your "dinners" the same as Jamie Oliver's hated school "dinners"?)

What time do you start school? 2:30pm is really early. Over here, school goes from 9am until 3:30pm (or 3:20pm)

Yep, we have a cafeteria lunch. School starts at 7:30AM, and usually ends at 2:30PM. (except mondays - 1:50PM)

I have first lunch bell, so I eat my lunch the earliest - 10:25AM.

That is so early! I always thought that my husband had odd eating habits because he takes his lunch break at 10:15 am. Especially strange considering that we don't eat dinner until around 9pm. Maybe it works well for him due to that I pack him an absolutely huge lunch everyday.

Does lunch start that early (mid-mornings) at most schools now?

Never with us. My high school only went from 12:50pm until 1:40pm, which isn't even an hour. My last primary school was 1pm until 2pm.

England was, I think, noon until 1pm. Before that, I don't remember... Speaking of the English school lunches (or "dinner" as they say there, which for us down here is the evening meal. Perhaps because it's a hot lunch?) Everyday each year level would get to go at a slightly different time, about 10 mins after the previous group, sort of similar to Erik by the sound of it. It was great when we were first because all the good things like Pizza would be there. But when we were the last group to go up, it felt like we were really just getting the left overs, because all of the good stuff was gone. In fact sometimes, there was only 1 choice left.

That's another thing - the choices. The "dinner ladies" as they were called were very strict when it came to servings. There were 3 "stations" - 2 for the main food, and the last one was for dessert, all of which would have a choice of at least 2 types of food each. eg On the 1st station, you might get to choose between, say, crummy tiny sausages (no bigger than my finger, which is really small for a sausage) or baked beans. The next station would be pizza or chicken-alien-faces or roast potatoes, and then finally bananas with custard or cookies, which were often like Anzac biscuits.

The Dinner ladies would only allow us one choice each, and no more, no picking and certainly no mixing. However, there was one dinner lady who I really liked, because she'd occasionally slip me an extra roast potato because she knew how much I enjoyed them (they were good, but not all the food was, of course.... ) If biscuits were on for the day, and the other choice had custard, I would always ask nicely for biscuits with custard, which I found to go together quite nicely. It was only rarely, though, that, somewhat annoyed, the dinner lady on the "dessert duty" would let me, saying something like, "Well, you're not really supposed to!" It was sort of like when you go to a restaurant these days, and ask to have some salad with your meal, which it doesn't normally come with. A good restaurant will always say "sure" even if it means charging another $5. But the bad ones will say, "No, sorry, computer won't let me!" (which really did happen to us once)

On a saturday, when I'm at home, we sometimes don't eat lunch until 4pm! But you can easily do that if you get up late and have breakfast at about 11am!

I think my "eating clock" must be set to European time, as I prefer to eat dinner from 8pmish

BTW, how can they make you start at 7:30am in the morning, Erik?  That's way too early for me. I'm not a morning person, and its hard enough trying to get up to catch the 6:30am train for an 8am lecture on Thursday mornings.

Edit: Hey Erik - if you can take in a mobile phone or camera with you, can you take a pic of your next lunch at your school cafeteria? I wonder if it looks the same at what they fed us up North?

Edit: Hey Erik - if you can take in a mobile phone or camera with you, can you take a pic of your next lunch at your school cafeteria? I wonder if it looks the same at what they fed us up North?

The Dean will take it away from me.

But then I don't want you getting into trouble because of me, so don't do it. I remember my lunches still quite vividly anyway!

Sorry of sorta "hijacking" your thread, Harth

Rama Delight - quite possibly the best Thai food I have ever tasted.

It's noodles with chicken, carrots, and baby corn, smothered (soaked!) in a thick sweet peanut sauce. Served with some crab rangoons.

Mmmmmm.... :P

I like just about any good tasty food. Here in Cape Town my favourite is to stop along the side of the road and buy a freshly caught Snoek (a fairly large, dark flesh fish, which is caught off the Cape Peninsula by ski boat sized vessels. The fishermen return to shore late morning and then spread throughout Cape Town to sell the catch). I will take it home and cut it up into pan sized pieces to fry. I bought one on monday on the way home after work. We got 3 meals out of it and the last is on my sandwiches for today.

When I was a graduate student, on Sunday afternoons we'd go down to the Carpenters Arms on the river Lune in Lancashire, drink beer, and wait for the shrimp boats to come in with the tide. They would cook the shrimp as they came upriver and would sell them at the quayside. Damn, I'm salivating as I write this.

Hi, I am new to the stampboards. Vermont Craft Double IPA Beer and some local goat farm cheese and grainy crackers. Not good for the vegan - vegetarian, but a real treat. Into Western Australia numerals and letters.
