Eight Miles High

"Eight Miles High" is a song by the American rock band The Byrds, written by Gene Clark, Jim McGuinn, and David Crosby and first released as a single in March 1966 (see 1966 in music). The single managed to reach the Top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 and the Top 30 of the UK chart. The song was also included on the band's third album, Fifth Dimension, released on July 18, 1966.

The song was subject to a U.S. radio ban shortly after its release, following allegations published in the broadcasting trade journal the Gavin Report regarding perceived drug connotations in its lyrics. The band strenuously denied these allegations at the time, but in later years both Clark and Crosby admitted that the song was at least partly inspired by their own drug use. Musically influenced by Ravi Shankar and John Coltrane, "Eight Miles High", along with its McGuinn and Crosby penned B-side "Why", was influential in developing the musical styles of psychedelic rock and raga rock.

Back Door Man - The Doors

A Willie Dixon blues song from 1961, the Doors decided to cover this after their guitarist Robbie Krieger heard John Hammond Jr.'s version. A "Back Door Man" is a guy who has relations with a woman while her husband has been out slaving away to provide for her. The usual guilty perpetrator if a wife was caught cheating was a regular tradesman caller (Ice Man, Insurance Salesman etc.). He would then run out the back door as the husband entered the front door.

Daniel - Elton John

The lyrics were written by Bernie Taupin, Elton's writing partner. When Elton wrote the music for it, he chopped off the last verse because he thought the song was already too long. This completely changed the meaning of the song, as the deleted verse explained that "Daniel" was a Vietnam Vet who returned home to the farm after the war, couldn't find peace, and decided to leave America and go to Spain. With the last verse chopped off, it became a fairly vague story of two brothers who part ways.

Mazeppa

Franz Liszt's Transcendental Etude No. 4 in D minor, "Mazeppa", is the fourth Transcendental Etude, and is a highly difficult and virtuosic staple of the Romantic Era repertoire. It was inspired by Victor Hugo's dramatically morbid poem Mazeppa, in which a Ukrainian page named Mazeppa is strapped onto a horse and the horse is set free to gallop, resulting in the critical condition of both the horse and Mazeppa. At the end, Mazeppa is crowned king.

Quando Quando Quando (Engelbert Humperdinck)

Tell me when will you be mine
Tell me quando, quando, quando
We can share a love divine
Please don´t make me wait again

When will you say ´yes´ to me?
Tell me quando, quando, quando
You mean happiness to me
Oh, my love, please tell me when

Ev´ry moment´s a day
Ev´ry day seems a lifetime
Let me show you the way
To a joy beyond compare

I can´t wait a moment more
Tell me quando, quando, quando
Say it´s me that you adore
And then, darlin´, tell me when

(instrumental strings and brass)

Ev´ry moment´s a day
Ev´ry day seems a lifetime
Let me show you the way
To a joy beyond compare

I can´t wait a moment more
Tell me quando, quando, quando
Say it´s me that you adore
And then, darlin´, tell me when

Oh, my darlin´, tell me when
Mmm, my darlin´, tell me when
