anytime but now? well, 1820s to the 1840s appeal to me. Those years seem innocent, just before the industrial revolution. Maybe I'm naive about it.

Paris in 1920s or London in early 1960s (all of that great British music and fashion and suburban Sydney felt like the end of the universe!)

Yes and yes, we can rent river rafts inexpensively from our University activities center and we have great river rafting in close driving distance, mostly Salmon River and Snake River and various tributaries. I've done this a number of times.
