Mike,

Glad you came out ahead in the propane war.

Six minutes, four hours, probably doesn't mean anything to you now that you're warm.

It's going to be a little bit cooler tonight - aslight wind and -26 but tomorrow will be practically tropical with the temperature shooting up to -15.

All the folks in the Southern hemisphere must be cursing the day when they settled in a hot climate.

I shouldn't brag and make them feel bad!

Dec. 9th

A bit colder tonight with a temperature of -25 and a 15kmh wind - puts it into the -30 range with the wind chill factor.

At 11:00 AM Tuesday December 9th in Fredericton, NB, Canada.

-15C, calm and about 20 cms of snow on the ground from a storm on Sunday. More to come tonight (10cm), then to freezing rain, then to rain tomorrow all day and up to 8C.

Don't you wish you were here?!

Eric

Winnipeg is still cold but that should come as no surprise at this time of year.

At least we're in no danger of getting rained on.

A beautiful 22 degrees today. Summer won't stay like this.

Was watching the football this morning and my wife asked why the players were wearing gloves. Checked the temperature in Lyon, France and it was zero! It was sleeting.

Warm (hot to some) and humid with temperatures up to 30 - 32 degrees, with some drizzle. You get irritated and exhausted in this kind of weather - probably also lose some weight. You sweat even if you are stark naked and you keep very still. Will probably feel like a sauna for people who are used to colder climes.

Cheers

Looks like we'll have snow on the ground for Christmas this year which comes as no surprise since we've had snow on the ground every other year in human memory.

I understand that it was quite tropical here only a few million years ago.

-30 tonight with a wind chill of -40 or -45

Tonight it's -28 with a wind chill of -39.

Tomorrow we'll have a high of -22 so it's back to tee-shirts and shorts for the back yard.

Mid afternoon on Saturday.

About 25% (76), getting warmer, hailing, thundering and lot of moisture coming down in a hurry.

The rain is a welcome relief from the drought but it is coming down so hard it will run off rather than go down to root level. Oh well, can't have everything - at least the dam levels will go up.

:D

Clear sky and -28 after a snowy and mild ( -15 ) New Years' Day.

Here's hoping the beginning of 2009 turns out better than the end of 2008!

Margo drove about 700 Km today across Colorado to Arizona, via the corner of New Mexico and up to Utah. Thanks goodness the speed cops were elsewhere. ;)

Right through the high 11,000 foot high Wolf Creek Pass ... lucky we did it today as they are expecting a few feet of snow there tonight. :)

Margo,

Welcome to North America but am puzzled as to why anyone would come north in the winter.

Winnipeg is sitting at -35 this evening - a little chilly even for us.

We drove thru Bryce Canyon and Zion Park in Utah yesterday, and no-one told me they were at 8000 feet.

Snow EVERYWHERE. On the main state appoach roads, and all thru the parks. Very pretty in Winter tho. :D

Flew to Maui today, and a tad warmer here. ;)

It's 31 in Winnipeg tonight as well.

Unfortunately for us that's -31 and no end in sight to the cold weather for the foreseeable future.

Still - 20 something here in Winnipeg but the weatherman tells us warmer weather is on it's way.

Unfortunately not until April.

Thanks for the photos MargoZ

Bob, today it was 38 here (just over 100) and the warmest was in western Sydney where it reached 43 (110).

We will receive an easterly breeze here soon. We are on the tablelands (about 2000ft) an hours drive from the east coast. At Braidwood, half way to the coast, it was 36.6 at 3 pm and by 3:15pm it had dropped by 23 degrees (your system) to 25.2

Hot though it is I would rather that than your minus temperatures.

Kevin,

Temperatues in the mid 30s are harder for me to bear than those in the -30s.

I can always put on more clothes in the cold but can only take off so much when it's hot.

Margo,

If you have the opportunity, visit Banff and Lake Louise.

The Banff - Jasper Parkway is one of the most magnificent drives in the world but the road is closed in winter.

Ah- the opposite of Zion. The main road is only open there during winter because too many people in summer....they are bused about the park then apparently.
Lovely to have it more or less to ourselves.

The Banff-Jasper Parkway receives too much snow and too little commercial traffic for it to be economical to keep open in the winter.

It's another marvelous day in Winnipeg.

Just under the freezing mark and fog.

While that may not sound ideal to you warm weather Australians it sure is a pleasant change from the month of -20s and -30s that we've just come through.

The respite will be short lived - back down to -20 by the week end.

Hi all,

Spent the weekend in Mildura, Victoria. talking stamps with an old friend,

Sat, 39c
Sunday 4am. temp 28c
Sun. topped 41c
Driving home on Mon. we had to have the car air conditioning fan speed on 3 or max. to keep cool. I had to stop on the side of the road to water the grass, and when you walked on the grass it cracked, it is so dry.

We heard on the radio a report of a place in South Australia that has not had a day under 40c this year, the hottest day so far was 47c.

Anybody got any rain to spare we'll take it.

Best regards David :)

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the offer of your snow but we already get that, in summer from the South Pole and in winter from your North Pole via the high rate of polar meltdown.
What we need is that wet stuff that used to fall from the sky.

Best regards David :)
P.S. Did your offer come post free?

David,

Sorry for the mix up.

We just have the solid water at the moment and will have to wait for summer to find the liquid variety.

Due to the high cost of mailing whatever we send would have to come by parcel post at your expense.

Darn it Bob, it summer NOW

If you pay the postage for what you send, I may consider refunding you the postage on the weight that arrives at my door, if however you consider my offer unfair (and for the life of me I can't see why you would) I think I'll have to forgo on your offer.

Best regards David :)

I think Bob had a trial run last night Dave.

29mm (just over an inch) was offloaded here in two storms. While it did not quite make it from Winnipeg to Mildura I have no complaints about it being dumped here.

Somehow the package and posting bill did not arrive - probably still winging its way west.

Nice and warm in Sydney these last couple of days. 30 degrees C. in the city and 35 in the outer western suburbs. A warmer one tomorrow at 39 degrees C.

Hi Bob,

My wife's Grandpa was born in Winterpeg.

We live in sunny Mildura last week as we were out on the Houseboat on the beautiful Murray River it hit 43c, The highest recorded temperature is 49c for breakfast they fry eggs on the footpath :D

Spent last Australian summer in Florida/Boston/New York/Minneapolis visiting relatives - We miss the cold weather!

We will catch up for a coffee when we get to Winnipeg! Our plan is to visit Winnipeg, Kenora (Rat's Portage) to trace some family history in your region.

All the best

David

Kevin & David,

My apologies about the snow.

Our local post office declined my request to send large packets of snow through the mail as they couldn't guarantee that it would arrive at its destination in the same form it was sent.

I suppose that if you really want the snow you'll have to come and get it.

I'll lend you some shovels but bring your own containers.

ozedavid,

If you come to Winnipeg soon we can supply all the cold weather and snow that you can handle.

Your wife's relatives must have been in the area early on.

Rat Portage changed it's name to Kenora in early 1906, I think.

If you visit, let me know and we'll arrange to get in touch.

A BIG thank you Bob,

That parcel that you didn't send, it arrived today but there wasn't much left in it, we had about 2 dozen spots of rain,

Could you PLEASE send a larger parcel next time.

Best regards David :)

And they say that the English just love to talk about the weather :!:

6:30 am Sunday morning and 18 degees (65). The rain last week was nice and was more than welcome even if it had to be sent all the way south-east from Manitoba.

The next week will be in high thirties so everything will be done early before it gets too hot.

cheers
