Can I be controversial .

I collect all eras of GB stamps including machins but concentrate on the early stuff , QV and Ed VII . I also collect early commonwealth plus various other countries .

The machin has been described as a timeless classic . It has been in use now for about 45 years . We have all heard the story of the emperor's new clothes . Am I the first person to say that the machin is a bland , boring , unimaginative and stale travesty of a stamp which should have been ditched years ago ?

Comparison with its predecessors does it no favours . I suppose that in these modern times there may be other countries with equally bland and utilitarian stamps but that doesn't make the machin any better in my view .

Am I alone in holding these views ?

The fact our Queen has not aged one minute on GB stamps for 45 years is NO business of yours.

She is everlasting and EVER YOUTHFUL you understand.

Be careful what you wish for - she looks better than Camilla.

Give our Liz some corner letters and maybe even a pretend plate number and I'd be happy . It would also give scope for those far more erudite than me to argue incessantly if a 3 mysteriously turned into a 7 .

Rather like the French Mariannes. A sequence but all different.
