Apologies if this is in wrong section if so please relocate.

I wonder if anyone is interested in forming a cover exchange group, where just covers are exchanged.

I don't mind running this if there's enough interest, same rules will apply as per "Chain Letter" thread in regards to Board Membership and 30 post rule etc..

We could do it on a 3 person Round Robin. WHERE each person sends a cover to the other two and receives a cover from the other two. Obviously the more different countries/people we can involve the better

Each cover must be of similar quality and also use commemorative stamps.
Anyone interested?

If this is not allowed, apologies and please close thread.

Dean

Count me in!

I assume we will all use brand new stamps (in period use), and not ones from 30 years ago. :?:

Great idea, count me in.

Anyone got suggestions for a suitable stiffening card to put inside the covers? Might be problematic in the future if using a high acid content insert.

I personally prefer no stiffener; I'd rather have an envelope that's a bit creased in transit, than a stiff card, IMHO.

Seems a neat concept to me.

So the rules are a range of CURRENT Commems to be used?

With the help of Dean, we'll make a tablet of rules.

1. Affix a few nice recent (past year or so) stamps to a clean envelope.

2. Write neatly (or type) the recipient's address on the front, along with your address in the upper left hand corner, or reverse.

3. Get the PO clerk to neatly hand cancel the franking.

Does that seem good?

OK .... the standard Swap Forum Rules need to apply to give all involved a bit of an idea of who they are dealing with!

===============

The **RULES** for this Thread. Please *READ** them!

A few simple ground rules.

1. Any member of stampboards.com who has at least 20 posts and has been registered for at least 20 days may post here. All other posts may be removed by Moderators. We want all members to be able to deal with confidence here - so having a rough idea of the members, from their posts does help a lot. :D

If you are new here, wander around the other forums, and say 'Hi' on the Roll Call, and let the members see a little more of you and know who you are. Get a 'feel' of how we do things here. We are friendly and helpful COMMUNITY. It is a 2 way street here. Ask a few questions about stamps, add a few comments of your own to other member's questions. Remember - participating in these Forums is a privilege - not a right.

2. Stampboards is not the giver or receiver ... we are simply a neutral venue to hopefully match up Cover Swappers. We are like the notice board at a shopping centre selling old lawn mowers or baby strollers or old toasters. A conduit only. We make nothing from this - we offer this thread as a free service only for members. Both parties to contact each other DIRECT.

3 . To participate in this thread you **MUST** have your email address enabled via our software, and "replies turned on" Unless you have this done, no-one can contact you direct, and you will not receive replies to your ad. To do this go to your "PROFILE" tab at top left, and:

4. All members swapping, by doing so are deemed to have fully agreed to the above. If you do not agree - do not participate.

email - admin [at] stampboards.com with any queries.

Have fun! :D

.

Glen

Does that seem good?

Looks OK.

Might be good to put everything (including return address) on the front ... better for displaying the item?

But how will that affect members from India? I notice that stamps mostly go on the back.

Maybe we can register preferences, such as:

One stamp, two, or several.

Plain cover or illustrated.

Stiffener or not ...

As you may have guessed not able to sleep here its almost 4am :P

Thanks for all the input and especially Glen.

Erik don't feel your taking over its all very good input.

I will leave this thread open for a week or so before we start.

I think everyone should try to use the most recent commeratives as possible which may prove attractive to others who may not usually participate

As for for obtaining a hand cancel that is not usually available here in the UK.

Yes people must have email enabled for contact

Yes I think people can stipulate whether they would prefer

A.single/multiple stamps if possible,
B. Typed/Handwritten address
C. Stiffener in card.

If everyone can send me their address via email then when each group is formed I can email each individual with the details and preferences of others in their group. the email tab on my posts is good please write "address" in subject line.

I would like to think that each Round-Robin could be completed in one month.

So lets hope for a few more names and we will start the ball rolling

Thanks Dean

This could be a lot of fun. I would add to any proposed rules recent commemoratives only, and if possible, lick and stick only (no peel and stick stamps which cannot be soaked from the envelope). And try to get them hand cancelled with CDS.

I would like to be involved.

My only question is - if only current commemorative are used, with so many Aussies, isn't someone overseas going to get too many of the same covers, albeit from different AU addresses?

Do we add - "any decimal Aussie commemorative stamp/s"?

Use up some of those souvenir packs and the like.

Yes/no?

I, too, do not mind bent, used, no stiffener covers.

Yes Bazza I see your point, I think when we say commemorative recent we should say within 12 months give or take and for Aussies sending overseas we can stretch that if people agree.

OK, this is where we are at the moment guys.
I have the details from 11 people which is a decent enough start. I have 6 from Australia and 5 non Australian. Ideally we could do with a few more of the non Ozzie type because I'm thinking they wont want to be exchanging covers with each other but please correct me if I'm wrong.

Here is the list so far

abutukit - Australia
muruk - Australia
Bazza4338 - Australia
john6625 - Australia
darkice - Australia
fromdowunuder - Australia

Dean - 2W0XTP - Wales
plsllvn - Canada
tanuki - Morocco
jugoslavija_post - USA
Cheema - Pakistan

One comment I have received is that others may join if the stipulation of very recent commems was lifted. Maybe we can some Months where we have a Theme for example, trains, birds, or whatever and age of stamp is not important.Any thoughts?

With numbers being low I think it best to start with a 1 cover exchange per month until numbers/different countries pick up.

So for starters. Cover Exchange for March are as below.

Dean-2W0XTP - fromdownunder
Cheema - abutukit
jugoslavij_post - Bazza4338
tanuki - darkice
plsllvn - muruk
Dean-2W0XTP - john6625

I would appreciate if people could post up scans of their received covers. I will start a different thread for that eventually.

I will forward everyone with the relevant details of their swap partner over the weekend. I have added myself twice to make sure everyone gets a cover this month.

1.Only recent Commems to be used (2010-2011) the more recent the better.
2.All other requirements can be discussed personally such as size of envelope, stiffner etc..

Any comments welcome especially on the exchange of covers between you people in Australia and also check thread for updates.

I would be happy to go thematic, and would do my best to meet a recipient's specific requirements.

I don't have a good source of older stamps, and would be limited to stamps still on sale at the post office, or through Australia Post mail order supply.

I will also try to get my fiancee on board and see if we can't have some Papua New Guinea covers brought into the situation. Unfortunately private internet is unaffordable in PNG, and PNG Post does everything vvveeerrryyy slowly, an extreme case of tropical timelag (3 to 4 months to process a mail order purchase), but I will give it a try.

O.K. - Just so I have it right - jugoslavgij_post is to send me a cover.

"jugoslavij_post - Bazza4338"

Then I am to send a cover to jugoslavij_post - or someone else?

p.s. They call me "Jungle" - a bit Thick and Dense!

Can I - just for the heck of it - add something to the contents of the cover because I want to?

Some leftover Aussie stamps for instance?

Instead of just sending an empty cover?

Hello Dean

Just to freak you out - I have a neice who married a Welshman in Monmouthshire and currently resides there.

Anywhere near you in Aberdare?

(Google says 56 minutes via the A465!)

Nice girl. Funny accent!

Exchange list has arrived. Thanks Dean.

I note that most participants are ignoring their national addressing standards. Your choice, but mail travels more smoothly through the sorting process when correct formats are used.

http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=21099

For Australia the last line (second last line if from overseas) should be all upper case and contain TOWN STATE-CODE POSTCODE and should look like this:

FREEBURGH VIC 3741

In Australia, anything above that is not machine read, so is less important.

Just a suggestion.

 Oops ... I have just noticed an error on the cover I sent. I have prepared a replacement with correction and it will go in today's mail.

Keep both if you like ... or just soak the stamps off the first one.
