Received this beautiful Indian cover from adivaragan today. It was part of the April exchange, having left INDIA on April 20 and arrived here in Canada on June 1. They must have used frequent flyer miles to pay for a vintage aircraft to fly to Canada. Thank you for taking the care that you did.

and the backside with a souvenir sheet ...

Hi Berlin Gus,

I feel the delay was due to postal strike in Canada.

Famous people on forever stamps.

One commemorating Melvin Calvin as the first chemist to bring water to the USA. Well, YOU interpret the symbols then.

Four CDS, one machine cancel, one barcode on the front and two on the back. Well and truly cancelled. Makes up for the other 5 covers that arrived with no cancels at all including one from the Netherlands with 34 stamps ... obviously too large a task for the postal clerk to cancel.

I positioned those stamps so ONE CDS strike in the center would suffice... and I asked the clerk, with noone in line behind me for "one nice cancel in the center for a collector!"

And I watched him cancel ONCE for each stamp... chalked it up to a misunderstanding for he was still smiling.

And those appear to have been "too juicy" for I see some smearing.

And then you got the extra barcode machine cancel too!

Ah well... let me know via email if you'd like me to try again! :D

Murak's cover was waiting for me when I returned from vacation -
Image

He truly blew me away with his custom designed cachet... would that be congruence with my name perchance... of course their might be some blood relation with the subject on the stamp if all the stories about royal affairs are true.

Put's my poor effort to shame... I'll do better next time.

Still with an extra barcode and dot matrix cancel I see.... Modern cancels are what they are.

In the end, the machines will win.

Even when the postal clerk does a neat cancel, the machines invariably add their spit.

But it's better that all the stuff that comes through with no cancels at all.

Yes, the design was concordant with your name ... and discordant with the stamp. I recall the Rob Roy had some issues with the royalty of his day.

You have a second cover on the way with a different concordance ... if it's datestamped 4 July, it will be the first day of usage for a new postal rate ... but that was out of my control ... it had a bit of a circuitous journey.

That gave me an idea to try something a bit different to get good cancels.

You also now have a couple of covers coming your way by circuitous route. let me know how they turn out, I might have to start sending them to myself.

New cover from Murak - Mansfield, VIC to Mansfield, TX
Image

I'm afraid that beautiful downtown Mansfield, TX is not as scenic.

Very nice! Sorry for the cellphone pic instead of a scan, I won't be home until 7/22 and the lovely and charming Debbie0517 snapped and texted this to me late yesterday.

Murak, please let me know when my drop-mailed items arrive.

Dang, missed by a day. 4 July was the first day of usage of the new postal rate on the stamp.

So I guess you have a second day (of use) cover.

Or a fifth day (of issue) cover.

Interesting cancel ... I didn't know they had a decorative one ... nice.

Incidentally, Koalas are found near Mansfield.

Hmmm.... Nothing so cute as a Koala in Mansfield, TX.

We have Armadillos as I've mentioned elsewhere... but you only see them as bloody lumps on the road.

On rare occassions, you'll see a "Horney Toad", sometimes called a "Horned Frog" but really a lizard. Not particularly cute, however.

My favorite local wildlife would be the Scissor-Tailed Flycatchers. These are small songbirds with tail feathers 3 or 4 times their body length. I love to watch them darting up and down from the oh-so-scenic telephone lines as they catch bugs and flies.

Received from DRVVR, in the June cover exchange, this wonderful cover and its enclosed Miniature Sheet. Air Mail from India and Canada is not the fastest (July 7-August 3) but it was well worth the wait.
Many thanks

Wow, this is a beautiful thread. Since we are based in one country and often come across the same set of stamps and covers day in and day out we get used to seeing the same thing and it gets monotonous but these covers are so lively and colorful.

A refreshing change.

I am loving this forum and i specially like the "Magical Realms" cover and then the one sent by Mr. Muruk with a Koyla and Echidna. Its gorgeous.

Good work guys. I hope to send some soon and receive too some wonderful colorful covers.

God Bless.

I made a remark on here somewhere about this stamp suggesting Dr Calvin brought water to the USA:

Image

Now I have this thanks to Rob Roy:

Image

It arrived inside a glassine that was peppered with inkjet codes ... but nothing on the cover except the cancel. Very nice ... thank you. Great contra-cordance. Love the airmail cachet too.

But maybe I should put it up in the creation vs evolution thread.

Well... that worked rather well, and faster than I expected!

And it beats dealing with your average USPS window clerk. You should also soon see a rather unusual tribute a certain Viking King.

Mon, what a hoot. :D

Just for reference, there were 6 inkjet stripes on the glassine.

Well... you might STILL be Gormless... I can't arrange a convenient pictorial postmark for anything I might want at any given point in time... I have to work with what's available... but it should bring a smile.

Might still be gormless, but I now have a gorn:

Image

Gorn was a creature in a Star Trek (original series) episode, so great concordance with the cancel.

Thanks muchly. That one goes straight to the pool room. :D :D :D

Well that about "covers" all the various types of special cancellations I can send for here in the states.

Thanks for being my guinea pig Muruk... all have arrived safely... there are no more in transit!

The protective sleeves were provided, on a variable basis apparently, by the respective postmasters who I sent the covers to for servicing.

Nice one. :D

Innovative use of the decorative CDS on the Air Mail Label ... you won't be able to soak that and re-use it.

Very nice cover today from Darkice-
Image

It matches quite well with the Koala cover I got last month from Muruk.

My covers for Darkice were mailed Friday 9/2... so be patient. They are in transit to two separate small towns here in the USA for application of special pictorial cancellations.

The $4.70 AusD face value has to be way over the required rate, so I'll look and see what else I can send your way... email me if you have any particular topical interests!

The Koala is standard rate to USA, the Possum is double rate.

Migrant boy meets young Australian.

Post-war migration era.

Typical migrant hostel in the background.
