I started my triangles and diamonds (and other odd shapes) collection back in high school. I recently recounted just my triangles...I've got about 500.

Now I have grandkids and am starting to get interested in adding to my collection again. So I'm just wondering if anyone else here has similar interests - either triangles or diamonds or both. Let's hear what you've got.

Thanks, AMark.

I recognize a lot of those pictured in the first thread. I've been out of this since (I think) the mid 1980s, and considering all the weird shapes to come out since then, I may have to limit my new acquisitions to triangles, diamonds, and odd-shapes-before-1985-or-so. I already eliminated Tonga, just cuz.

After digging around in my collection and notes, etc., I discovered that the last time I looked at any of this in earnest was in 1993 - almost 20 years ago.

So I went to the library to pick up the latest complete set of Scott catalogs they had in stock, which turned out to be the 2011 edition, so I could update my want list.

Wow, have I missed a lot in the past 2 decades - even among US issues! I had no idea the US issued a set of pentagonal stamps. With email, it's been a long, long time since I've sent any snail mail that required physical stamps.

I also discovered that a lot of countries (some that didn't exist 20 years ago) have issued a lot of freeform and circular stamps, especially with the advent of those (st)icky self-adhesives. In fact, there are so many that I've decided to drop them from my want list and limit it to triangles, diamonds, and a few more regular shapes (pentagons, octagons, parallelograms, and the like). I was never really very interested in circles and such anyway.

Listed up this neat Triangle Sheet on my Rarity page this week.

1994 Advance Bank Triangular Stamps with all 20 Kangaroos facing the *WRONG* way! The standard sheets of 20 were sold via Advance Bank ATM machines. (I attended the national press launch out of interest, with the heads of Bank and AP, but NONE of these were given away!)

Each sheet was the size of a $20 banknote, and had 20 x 45c Roo stamps on it, in metallic Bronze foil.

For TESTING the machines, the techs used a special sheet with 20 Kangaroos facing the WRONG way - as you can see. These sheets were tightly audited, and were to be strictly accounted for and destroyed.

Paper, gum, metallic foiling, and Advance Bank backing ads on reverse etc, are all identical on both. Only a few reached the market, making this one of the most elusive and striking decimal errors. These were of course printed by Australia Post.

They are listed and highly priced in the ACSC. I’ve only owned one other before - that’s how scarce they are. Also have a single on cover 1998 neat cds, and 2 different errors on 1998 cover.

Glen

I have quite a collection of triangles and diamonds. I apologize for the stamps not having a black background and the photo being uneven. This image of stamps was taken from the album so needless to say I was not going to remove them from the page for scanning. I hope everyone appreciates this any way. Thanks.

Thanks, serenity.

I think I'm going to concentrate on triangles as I get started collecting again. By my count, there are just over 1700 (based on the 2011 catalog). I've got roughly 500, so I'm almost 1/3 of the way there without really trying.

Almost exactly what I was going to say, except that I was going to call them diamonds. :D

Thanks to both of you for adding the color.
