A question for you buda: I know that Serbia uses both the Latin and Cyrillic alphabets and the two pics here illustrate that well. But the stamps only seem to use one or the other, not both. Do any use both on the same stamp? How do they decide which to use? Does it alternate by issue, or is each stamp issued in two versions?

Also I note that only the Cyrillic ones say "Serbia" in English. Obviously they reckon SRBIJA is close enough for us to understand but СРБИЈА isn't :)

Using two alphabets for the same language boggles my mind a bit! I haven't been to present-day Serbia but I visited Montenegro a few years ago and they seemed to have switched over to the Latin alphabet exclusively. I understand it is a bit of a political issue?

Yes, there are stamps with both alphabets, i will post some images later, if you want.

Don`t know how, they probably make decision when they design stamps.

No, sometimes each stamp is issues in two versions, sometimes not. I will also try to post some examples.

Serbia and Montenegro are two countries almost 7 years. But in Serbia we still have two alphabets, and that will, probably,be a lot of years in a future. You get used to it :).

But Serbia is not only country with two alphabets, Russia, Greek etc.

You gave me excellent idea, i will collect some stamps and make new thread, for collectors to post stamps with two alphabets, and that can be very interesting thematic collection.

Russia and Greece use Latin letters on stamps as well as the native alphabet but they don't use both in day to day usage like in Serbia? As far as I know Serbia is unique in having two parallel writing systems for the same language in the same country? I know Japanese and Chinese etc can be written in Latin letters but that is usually for the benefit of foreigners. But in Serbia, some people write in Cyrillic and others in Latin, correct?

Buda: I Really like that first "Year of the dragon" issue. The best I've seen so far of all the countries producing stamps for this occasion!

I think it's wonderful that Serbia is going all classical in its stamp designs. They must be in the top three of countries with the most beautiful modernday stamp design!
