Here's one from Australia - international mail, using domestic stamps - from a well-known member of the Stampboards fraternity. What is the ID RECORDED label for? Whose ID

And one from France with the Haiti-Solidarity charity stamp - I've no idea how much postage is paid with this as the red stamp pays 0,56 euro, the green Greetings stamp is PRIORITAIRE 20gr and the blue one must be different again!

I had to do that somewhere (but I can't remember where now).

That's one of the nicest covers I've ever seen! As for my thoughts on the postmarks, I'm not sure myself. Either it's because it's the First day of issue, as you said, or the postman was old, forgetful, cross-eyed and not wearing his glasses. Pay attention... Each cancel is different than anoher one.... I think 12 different places

Weird cancellation device - just a date stamp? And I didnt think the mini sheet was valid for postage - wasnt it just an exhibition souvenir? Or the 20c special delivery, or the 16c imperf spec delivery? Very interesting. PS I agree norvic

The souvenir sheet and stamps cut from it are each perfectly valid. The Special delivery is not, the Airmail / special delivery are.

A Tale of Two Parcels Received two packages today, both with some nice stamps on them. One from the far and distant land of Australia (hey, it's distant from me, anyway): Gotta love those crisp postmarks. Distance: 14,294 km (8882 miles), Time: one week. Not bad. Great for impatient folks. Like me. Another package, arrived same day: Notice the difference? Even though this is a flat-rate Priority Mail box, since it was over the weight limit for stamped packages to be simply dropped in a pickup box, it should have been turned in to a postal clerk at the post office counter. The $0.00 label indicates that this was almost certainly the case. Too bad the worker didn't bother to cancel any of the stamps. I'm not a big collector of postal history, but I'm considering saving this box, along with the latest story clipped from Linn's Stamp News that reports how much money the U.S. Postal Service lost last quarter. (yes, I'm sure that reuse of stamps that weren't canceled is a very small part of their money losses, but every little bit helps. )

Ian Billings (a.k.a Norvic) did me a very good deal on a SG Great Britain Concise catalogue, and added these to the front to make things even more interesting. (along with a couple of obligatory machins Thanks Ian! Cheers, Craig.

Thanks Craig, glad they arrived OK.
The difficulty on small packages is working out just what to use that doesn't take up too much space. I have a stack of those regional pages from the prestige stamp book - although you get all 1st class stamps, they are unique to the book. The 20ps come from the Treasures of the Archive PSB and are different printing to the original.

The highest face value postage stamp issued by the USA? 3 x superb used hand cancelled copies, mailed to me recently in San Francisco, thoughtfully by doug2222USA on a huge 54 pound weight parcel of goodies. This stamp is seldom seen singly, and 3 x light cancel copies, used in the correct period, with crisp 'Westerville Ohio April 14, 2010' cds will be a prize piece in the future. These are the £2 roos of the USA .. and see what THEY are worth on piece - http://www.glenstephens.com/snmay10.htmlGlen

Yeah, I know they are scuffed and crinkled ... they were on a bubble-wrapped package. These are special to me because they were on the first postal item that my girlfriend sent me.

They are beautiful stamps. Received a £18 label as postage from the UK last week. Luckily, I wasn't the one paying for postage.

Glen:
You didn't really cut them from the package, did you? Hopefully, they were included in something that you got. As a collector of postal history I can tell you that the entire, regardless of condition (and the condition appears to be rather nice) would make the threesome a gem and centerpiece of an exhibit.

Well as it was on a massive cubic metre 56 pound carton I thought keeping the 3 stamps "on cover" was a little tough! Good luck exhibiting that one!

I received this one today from Mystic Stamp Company. I thought it was a nice mix of stamps. I am absolutely amazed that it made it through the mail with nary a postmark on a single stamp. I've had the occasional stamp get to me that way, but never something with 14 stamps!

Happens all the time down here in Australia, at least with my mail anyway. Now comes the real question: does one prefer to collect postally used or Mint no gum?

postally used or mint no gum That is a dilemma! My normal experience is that packages of this type barely arrive intact. However, I moved a few months ago. Perhaps this mailman isn't Mr. Crammit like the ones at my last two addresses. Maybe I'll continue to get packages in shape that I can pretend the stamps are mint.

I swear I didn't do anything to my image from my post, just above. It's still in the same link that worked yesterday. I'm putting it back in now, this way, since I can't find a way to try to edit my earlier post to fix whatever went wrong.

Rozzie, the url for your 2 images is different. Looks like you moved the scan into a new album (Stampboards) in Photobucket. That will be why the image is missing from your earlier post, I suspect.

Actually, the picture disappeared before I moved it. I figured I might as well move it to a different folder after it was gone anyway. That's why they have different URLs. Ah well. At least I managed to get it onto the same screen. If that's the worst mix up I have in a week, I can be happy.
