There have been some intermittent problems with Stampboards reply notifications in the past, in particular Doug222 has had issues receiving his.

In the past fortnight 3 members with Bigpond email addresses have reported that they haven't been getting their usual reply notifications.

Any other Bigpond email users out there having problems?

Just by way of background:

Problems with reply notifications seem to be an intermittent problems on various phpBB forums.

Here are some suggested things to try:

Firstly you could try unsubscribing and resubscribing to threads and forums you wish to follow.

To remove your subscriptions, go to your User Control Panel and follow the links to your subscriptions.

To subscribe to a specific forum, click the “Subscribe forum” link upon entering the forum. To subscribe to a topic, reply to the topic with the subscribe checkbox checked or click the “Subscribe topic” link within the topic itself.

Note: When you subscribe to a topic you only get one email to notify you of a reply. You don't get one for every reply posted. You will not get another notification until after you've read the topic.

Secondly check your spam/email filters and settings on bigpond. Check your junk mail box to see if the notifications are going there.

You might want to clear your cache and check cookies as well. For instructions on what this means and how to do it see

http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/yahoomail/settings/settings-15.html

If none of that works it might be worth starting up a free google gmail account, and using that email address on SB at least temporarily to see if that works.

These strategies have helped other board members who have had problems
in the past.

Hi Margo,

No, I'm not getting any Stampboards notifications either - I tried 'Subscribing' & 'Unsubscribing' to threads but still no go. Doesn't really bother me & I'm on Stampboards so often I haven't looked too deeply into it.

FYI, I too did not get an auto notification to my post yesterday even tho I was subscribed. I'll try to subscribe and unsubscribe again but don't really expect any more responses since I got the answer I needed (as always!)

MY IP is Telstra Bigpond, and all arrive here fine.

Might be spam settings if you have Bigpond spam filter etc?

Off topic but as this is being read by those who use bigpond.

For the last year or so I have not been able to log onto
http://www.tradera.com

It usually just times out [with Firefox, Safari and Chrome]

Yes Tradera is the Swedish version of ePay, but is independent of all the others.

With the usual run around from bigpond.
It now seems that it wasn't my fault as they will always claim.
Apparently some of the rotating bigpond IP addresses have been 'blacklisted'

Can other 'bigponders' log in to tradera
I would appreciate your comments.

Still not working, so…
I guess a bump would be OK in the circumstances that bigpond users are not getting updates.

The connection has timed out

The server at http://www.tradera.com is taking too long to respond.

* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.

* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.

* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

Thanks Glen

Bigpond IP addresses have been blacklisted.
They don't seem to think that there is anything wrong that we do not have access to an ePay site. They just put the onus back on the consumer and waste time with phone calls that take hours.
Nothing wrong at all…………
A lot of interesting thing on tradera, because of its independence from the other sites. But many problems in paying for lots as they basically only take local bank payments.

This is a detailed tech analysis on www.stampboards.com

http://www.solvedns.com/stampboards.com

Can anyone tech minded see if any of the orange items might be causing this?

I've been following up about this. A number of people on other bulletin boards have had the same issues with Bigpond. Note however, a number of Bigpond users ARE receiving notifications so not a universal problem.

I'm assuming that everyone affected has tried the steps suggested in Post 1.

The common advice from other boards is that affected users should put admin@stampboards.com in their Bigpond email address book.

If this doesn't help you should report it to Bigpond- unfortunately Bigpond will not act on complaints from non-subscribers so individuals will need to report directly.

You can report problems (at)
https://service.telstra.com.au/general/bigpond-contact-us/form?execution=e1s1

Here is some suggested wording:

I am a member of a large international philatelic bulletin board which has been in existence for 5 years. In the past X weeks I have no longer been receiving emailed notifications. The emails were not in my spam box. The origin of these emails is admin@stampboards.com IP 208.65.113.219 from Tulsa Oklahoma. Could I please have access to these emails restored.

It is very hard to talk to bigpond.
They are not really interested.
Whatever is wrong is our/my fault

As a catch up…
I have still only had 1 update, and yes admin@…… is in my address book

Thanks Tony. So frustrating I'd agree.

I can really recommend gmail.

On a lot of bulletin boards members are urged to have a gmail or hotmail a/c to avoid the sort of problems outlined above.

I'd seriously suggest that anyone having major problems sets up a gmail for SB use and changed their email ac via the User Control panel on the top right of the SB homepage.

Cheers
Margo

For the BIGPOND users out there....I repeat this is a BIGPOND issue not anything that can be actioned at the Stampboards end. We have tried contacting Bigpond and they insist they will only respond to subscribers complaints.

Bigpond will not act on complaints from non-subscribers so individuals will need to report directly.

You can report problems (at)

If this is all too hard then set up a gmail account for Stampboards and you'll have no problems.

A Gmail account (googlemail) is free and secure. LAYERS more secure than those silly Hotmail and Yahoo accounts that many use, and seem really absurdly easy to hack into.

Anyone still using these really should wise up, and dump them fast. 8)

You get a MASS of free email storage with Gmail - 1 or 2 GIGS as I recall. You never need delete ANYTHING – that is enough storage for 100,000 or so normal emails.

Just leave the account there and forget about it, and re-forward all incoming emails from there to your usual account.

Change your email account for stampboards to be your gmail account, and take 30 seconds to set up the ‘POP Forwarding’ option there under SETTINGS.

A cinch to do – see diagrams below of how to do this. I am not tech savvy, so if I can do it, ANYONE can.

Whether you use a PC or a MAC or a portable device, this works for all.

Via the "POP Forwarding" divert button in gmail, you can then have all incoming emails diverted to your usual account - whether bigpond, optus, msn, btinternet or whatever, anywhere on the globe.

The advantage of this is that you get all stampboard advice emails for starters. :D

You never need to even open the Gmail account - it all occurs like magic.

The OTHER advantage is, that if your Outlook or Outlook Express account or software crashes or corrupts, (not unheard of at all) you have Gmail there, to rescue a lot of regular user email addresses from.

OR if you usual IP goes down for service or tech outage you can send email via Gmail and have records of them.

If your laptop is lost or stolen or damaged, or corrupts, a ton of your usual contacts will be sitting safely in Gmail – that you can access anywhere on the globe.

A power surge or corrupt motherboard would often lose ALL your emails - do you realise that?

Telstra bigpond my own IP, went down this year for near a full weekend. No emails in or out, but as I was able to use Gmail during that time, so my business did not miss a beat.

So no matter whether you generally use bigpond, optus, msn, AOL, btinternet or whatever, you are wise to give your Gmail account as your PRIMARY address to friends, business, Bulletin boards etc, and simply have those incoming emails divert to you preferred inbox.

Gmail have superb spam filters, and nothing dodgy seems to get past them. The spam sits there for 30 days and then auto deletes. Another great reason to have gmail as your MAIN account and diverting to your regular one.

Basically it is a free and secure INSURANCE POLICY, and anyone reading this should give it SERIOUS thought.

I’ve used it for years and it has been a dream run for me, so I am simply passing on this common sense tip to set yours up the same. Simple tutorial below on how to do it.

Glen

Extremely wise advice above RE Gmail. I strongly recommend it and it is far superior to every other email program - EVER! :D

Very user friendly. And completely free.

When I first joined stampboards, I used to get emails telling me if anyone had replied to postings I had made. In particular, I would get emails telling me about any interest in offers I had put on stampboards.

This no longer happens. Even when I send an email from stampboards, ticking the box which says 'send a copy to my email inbox', I don't get a copy.

It is thus difficult to know whether I am actually contacting people when I send an email. I currently have a new user who has offered to buy some stamps but he has not been in touch since his post AND I do not have his direct email address. He may have emailed me thru stampboards but I wouldn't have got the email.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Tony

Do you have a spam filter set on your computer?

Does your internet service provider have a spam filter?

I will send you an email for you to check whether you get it.

Cheers,
Ian

For some weeks (even a couple of months), I'm not getting my normal messages from Stamp Boards.

Take the footy tipping just as an example, I have it set to receive messages when there is a new entry, but nothing eventuates. I look regularly, but nothing else happens. Same with items for sale, I have always used that extensively but no messages on that either.

A few days ago I listed some Chinese covers for sale, I checked back a couple of days later and found they had sold, item had been moved but I received no message on that either. I then sent an email message to the buyer, to be copied to me but again nothing.

The other thing that I notice is that the entry:

Last visit was: Tue Aug 07, 2012 11:32 am

is not changing, I have visited quite a few times since then but that date stays the same.

I'd really love some help. Did get some suggestions from Margo some weeks ago but nothing that made any difference.

Please note that I have the Notify me when reply is posted ticked, but I suspect I won't be so I will check back from time to time to see if any help is forthcoming.

Thanks in anticipation.

Hi,

Do you use Bigpond ? A numbers of users (myself included) use Bigpond and no longer receive messages. Follow the below link to the discussion and suggested fixes.

I had a "friend" assist me to open a Gmail account, but it requires my password to Stamp Boards, and it seems that my emails to S/B requesting the details are still not getting through.
Help, assistance, suggestions, all appreciated as I know many others in the same boat.
The other linked thread is locked, so can't do anything there either>

What complete and utter arrant nonsense. What planet are you on Philly?

Please READ the clear tutorial above. With simple photos, to assist folks JUST like you. And stop posting inane rubbish confusing any that read it.

Why we bother taking time to lay it out step by step in diagrams, and still folks post absurd drivel like 'google needs your stampboards password', is beyond belief. What total nonsense.

Gmail forwarding needs no 'friends' to assist in setting it up - just an IQ above 10, and 5 minutes of your time to READ above how it is done.

If you have neither, well you have only yourself to blame, for not getting emails if they are an issue for you.

Works like a charm for me.

Glen
