I have seen alot of modern covers with their addresses blanked out with 'swirls' (like the one above from the registered covers thread) and yet I have no idea on how it is done.

Could anyone inform me on how to do it?

You will need a tool like Photoshop (which you have to pay for I believe), gimp (free, http://www.gimp.org/) or other such similar products.

Please don't do this for any information that is really private, as the reverse matrix operation(s) can be applied and the original data fairly closely reconstructed, if you are determined enough to do it. In that case, a blank white solid box is secure and you can apply that using mspaint, which comes free with most versions of Windows.

The preferred hosting site for images here is Photobucket. When you have put an image there, you can then edit it on their site. Their editor contains a tool to do the swirls.

Thanks for that great tip Alastair, often wondered where the swirls came from. Even though I use Photobucket I've never explored it in depth. Many thanks :D :D
