I think it's worth every bit of $120 (even better if $100). As has been said, the misalignment of the impressions is normal for this plate. However, it makes it even harder to have a long strip with margins on all sides, as they would have had to been cut on a bit of an angle to compensate.

Chip

Thanks Chip, I am still having a big think about it everyone is helping me decide to buy :D , I have never spent more then $90 and that was on a lot of 1000 Victoria.

Micky is very happy

Hi!

Can anyone help me with a fair price for this card? I don`t have literature about postal stationaries and of military covers. I like the roos and thought it might be a nice addition to a roo collection. Can anyone provide a retail for this?

Thanks a lot

Josto, A nice item from a German POW held in Australia. I can't help much with rarity or price, but you don't see them too often. Without doing any research I would be happy to pay $50 but that may be way off it's true value.

What is the asking price?

Face alone is $9, so not a bad buy at that price. :)

How much is postage?

Face is $4.50, isn't it? Throw in a couple of dollars postage, and it looks pretty expensive.

This shows how tired I am.... Of course there is only $4.50 face! Just not seeing properly.

So not really a good price, unless you really want it and are happy to pay over FV.

Hi, me again with what could be a silly question but honestly I can't find a picture to clarify. I wanted to buy this Queensland 5 shilling for the price of about $21 including postage. The S at the end of Shillings looks dodgy, any thoughts please? Has anyone got a one to show so I can see? Thank you for your time.

Micky, looks OK to me. However, I think it is fiscal use and not postal.

Micky the lettering varied stamp to stamp - that is how they are plateable.

It has a light postal Duplux barred numeral/cds cancel.

Thanks PeterS & Admin, I like it and I have a lot to learn on plating Queensland stamps, this is my now goal to stick to Qld stamps & Jeremy's threads are the best place to learn. $20 it's ok once in a while :D

Thanks again

I like the cover, the stamps, the cancel, the hand written, but the price got me baffled.

85 euro for this?

Centering on those is woeful, the 1 Pound is almost a misperf. The temptation comes from the fact that its only $5...but will you be happy seeing those horribly-centered stamps on the album page, vs. blank spaces? And if you later upgrade, how easy will it be to on-sell these copies?

I've seen a heckuva lot worse for centering, I'd have thought $5 was good value for those stamps.

The £1 is notorious for centering. At $5 it is a steal.

I'm not to keen on the Perfs (N-E corner and some at the base). You could get a perfect one for $20.

So not an expensive cover, however there is a nice arrival cancel on the back with a slogan I want - so I am willing to pay a premium for it. It's being offered at ~16 AUD....it'll be a Mother's Day present...to myself! :)

Good day everyone. I found this online going for $35 with a block of 4 Kangaroo & Map wmk C of A in the middle, all stamps are noted down as mixture of MUH and MH. Might be a bargain but that's from the eyes of a not so bright collector. I guess it's more of a gamble buy to some people. The KG 3d blue might be something too

Anyone have thoughts on this?

Michael, the 3d Blue is the Die III and (assuming hinged) worth around $12.50. The 2/- Roos are the 1946 redrawn die and not worth an awful lot. A very fully priced lot, in my opinion

Peter, I tyhink that given the placement of the 3d Blue, next to a 2d GeoVI and 5d Ram, that I find it likely that these are the provisional overprint set which brings the Blue back to about $1.00. However there is a complete (probably hinged) AIF set in there which would be worth $10.00+

I agree that it is well and truly fully priced.

Norm, there is a 3d Die Blue III at the top, as well as the provisional near the middle of the picture.

Cheers Norm & Peter, it's great to have help from those in the know I like to grab hold of the Kangaroo block as my first block, I understand they are available from dealers out there but I am a silly gambling man or kid sometimes.

I just bought it with another little lot that has a penny red 177 I think  for $6.50.

You never know, it might turn out to be a 77, seems they have a habit of turning up in inexpensive mixed lots. :D

Are they hinged or unhinged? Close to full retail if lightly hinged. Be aware that these are also regularly forged. I would want to see a better scan, myself, before I would bid on them.

joelk I think this item has arrived at my home in Australia with many other goodies still in my unopened mail, I will look for the thread auction descriptions as you mentioned thanks.

Now for my first thinking about purchase while in China, I found this on a local site and well there isn't much around here for tourist so I think this will do fine for the big $20, it's better then teaspoons or teatowels :D .

Looking forward to your views, thanks

Micky,

I know nothing about China (philatelically speaking), BUT....

...20 bucks is ONLY 20 bucks, and "They" keep telling us that anything China-related is "Hot", so they can't be too bad a buy

My prediction is eventually people will tire of madly accumulating PRC M/S and will evolve as philatelists, in which case they'll find areas in which to specialize, and of course postal history is going the further mile beyond gap-filling an album.

Postage dues are a popularly field of study and collection, I'd say $20 is worthwhile, even if it does turn out to be high now, it should pay off someday. I see regular covers go for that much or multiples of that, and they're sometimes pretty bland.

Hi SB team, I have located a couple more interesting lots over here online. The first 3 scans are in an auction with a lot of interesting goodies, this is the only Aussie stamps in the many pages. Starting bid 1rmb = $0.15 with no bidders ends tomorrow, The 1d red looks to be DieII and there is a strip of 3d blue. The second is on a seperate site 109 Victoria stamps for $36 this one might be a gamble for sure as I don't see much from the stamps showing. Appreciate your thoughts

Go for it - wouldn't spend much over $10 though, but some of my best finds have come from overseas lots.

Should put his lot in the 'Dreamers' thread...

Darrin.

This China inflation cover is not for those that like their covers to have come from some clinically sterile environment. Personally I like it as it gives an idea of the hardships both China and Bulgaria were going through these times. Their was hunger and death and money was scarce. People went through extraordinary lengths to find the money to sent a letter to a friend or loved one and this sort of cover has my respect.

Sent from Tietsin to Provadia in Bulgaria in 1948. According to Interasia the 50,000 on 60 overprint is very rare on cover but I am not too sure.

Any thoughts and enlightenment from any of our China collectors will be appreciated. Something remotely similar but in Sterile condition sold for HK 9000 at Interasia this year (Lot 778).

That's a very impressive and 'busy' looking cover Yannis. I like it.

I don't know this period of China so well, as the mass of overprints in Chinese (which I can't read) drive me up the wall. However, looking at the Interasia lot, I can see immediately that the stamps on that cover are different from yours, the overprints have horizontal bars through them, so the overprint was 'retracted' and the stamps changed to some other use?

Which would be a better buy-

-the set of three at the top for $30, or
-the single on bottom for $30?

I'm think the 2/- at top is CTO, but I'm not sure.
