It seems the faker tried to use a technicality to get around accusations of fraud by issuing this not for the Falkland Islands per se, but for "Bleaker Island". A bleaker piece of production I have not seen for some time. Obviously they could spin an excuse like "adding the Falklands name is simply as a geographic point of reference". But its certainly laid out to look authentic, like the St. Vincent issues for Bequia, Union Is; Seychelles - Zil E.... Sesel.

Bogus issues are usually poorly produced to start with, but at least they'll have a focus. This is the most ridiculous mish-mash, it deserves a Razzie-type award for 'worst fake' (if such an 'honour' doesn't seem redundant). Why would anyone be interested in this or fooled into buying it? The caption says "the most famous woman" but then picture the Queen Mum and Mother Theresa...also a rather effiminate-looking Elvis...so are they going to duke it out for the title or something?

As I'm inept, I haven't figured out how to post images yet. The one that I referred to was from Swan Island Falkland Islands and features Queen Mother, Elvis, Louis Armstrong and Marie Curie. It's being sold by the firm of Lollini in France.

This and the Bleaker Islands were issued prior to my direct involvement with Falkland Islands stamps but I did issue a general press release in 2008 which stated;

Dealers and Journalists will be aware that certain unknown parties have, over a period of years, printed paper labels with imaginary names from Islands and areas which have no right to issue postage stamps and these have been sold to the gullible as supposed postage stamps.

Not only are these items misleading but often bear unlicensed images and we have become aware of two such labels, printed we believe in 2002, which depict members of the Royal Family and other personalities which purport to be issued by West Swan Islands and Westpoint Island in the Falkland Islands.

We would ask that the Philatelic word be alerted to the fact that these labels have no postal validity nor have they been issued with the knowledge or approval of the Falkland Islands Post Office. The Post Office deplores the release of such unlicensed and improper material and intends to do all within its power to discourage any further improper use of the Falkland Islands name when associated with bogus stamps.

This was covered in a number of magazines around the world positively although someone who will have to remain nameless sent a fairly derogatory e-mail about me and the press release to me by mistake as he was selling them!

As a Stampboards member you should not SUPPORT FRAUD in any way. A Dollar spent with the unscrupulous only encourages. We have a NOBLE hobby, the most popular throughout the world.

Those Vermin MUST be eradicated from their activity. Let them make a living by Forging Steel etc.

Hi reddies..

100% i'm not supporting THESE KIND OF STUFFS.. I saw these stamps with one of the local dealer.. So i thought i need to inform about this to everyone including stampboard members and some junior collectors in local (i use to help some junior collectors to develop their collection).. To show them, i searched for the images. but unfortunately i could't get all these 10 sets.. So i don't have any source. that's why i bought it.. there is nothing in support these kind of frauds and there is NO PLACE for these ILLEGAL things in my hobby.. And already made a complaint about this in the local philatelic clubs..

To say the truth, we are a little late because we wanted to add other changes in the same time in our Charter. And this Charter is now being translated, within a week or two. I think that we should be ready with it by Mid November.

In the meantime, we already created a category Stamps > Topics > Cinderellas (modern).

As soon as it is official, we will send a newsletter.

Thanks, Seb Delcampe

Seb, you have to go to your profile on Stampboards and activate being able to receive site emails. Only that way can we see an email button below your postings and send you an email. (YOU won't see the email button below your posts, just as I can't see one below mine!)

BTW one of my friends has written to you twice through your own system and not received any reply. He's in London or Mexico and will stop buying from any of your clients unless he gets an answer.

I saw this post today on the VSC. I already sent an email to our support manager to check what happened, before giving a reply.

Thanks, Seb

OK, good. I realise that you can't be everywhere at once - and I find that the more places there are to be, the more likely some are to get overlooked (for instance, I haven't yet looked at twitter today!)

While there may be some debate over older stamps (1960s from Sharjah, Khorr Fakkan and other Arab states) there can be little doubt of the status of those from Kalmykia, Karelia, Abkhazia, and Ukrainan Antarctica, or such as these, even if they do appear in a catalogue!

In a peace treaty between Finland and Soviet Russia in 1920 was agreed that the Karelian populations of the governments of Archangel and Aunus would enjoy the right of self-determination. The population of Viena Karelia, unsatisfied with the autonomity promised and refugees who had moved to Finland began to oppose the Soviet administration in the summer of 1921. This lead to a uprinsing by the end of the october. In the beginning the venture was succesful and the almost the entire area of Viena Karelia (app. 60 00 sq km) was captured by november.

The central government of Karelia had stamps made at the end of the 1921, with postage value of finnish currency. The stamps were valid only in Karelia. Because the stamps came out of the print just before the end of the uprising they were not videly used. They are proven to have been used only at the Uhtua post Office from tuesday 31st of january to friday 3rd of the february. Those stamps are not bogus issues but issued by a governmet that failed to be and they were in real use for a very short time. It is true that there have been made many philatelical postings with these stamps, but it does not change the fact that they were in real use.

Didn't the story go that letters from Uhtua went to Finland and were forwarded under cover? And that later the PO at Uhtua actually moved to Finland?

Forwarded under cover?

Yes, that is true that the post offive moved and letters sent after the move are not considered as "real post" Although many still collect also those letters...

I should have said "under separate cover." The letters were forwarded by the Finnish PO by putting them in separate covers and placing them in the Finnish mail stream.

Atrocious design...

Not to mention a Muslim country would never issue something with a background like that, even if the stamps are covering most of it.

And "butterflys"? They're skimping on paying not only on graphic designers but also proofreaders.

Stamp FAIL I mean really!!! Cheaply printed, spelling mistakes, and use of pink. No no no, who would ever buy this?
