I'm sure Glen will have an answer for this however from a 'Digital Marketing' perspective (which I'm supposed to know about :lol:

) the growth of Social media is key to the success of a website.

Google being the predominant search engine in most English speaking countries (95% of all search in the UK) decides through its algorithm where to place websites, depending on the query string you put in. One of the elements it considers is how many people are linking to the site and from where.

For some time now people in the industry have been noticing that sites with a bigger and better social profile i.e. more followers on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn etc. appear to be getting slightly better placings in the search results. Social is seen by some as a better and more reliable metric of who likes a site (rather then just counting the number of links back to a website, which can be bought for pennies these days) as in the majority of cases one person has one social profile on Facebook, Twitter etc. and therefore it's harder to 'fake' the number of likes.

So the ultimate answer would be that the more likes you get on social the better the search engines may perceive your site to be and therefore the higher up the rankings you will go.

Or of course it could just be that Glen wants to get more followers than Lady Gaga and Barack Obama :lol:

Thanks very much, Jon. I am getting old and increasingly cynical and this just reinforces my negative perception of Google. I am finding Bing more useful generally these days but I suppose this works the same way. One day I will find a search engine that I actually "like".

You can also "TAG" any photos you post on FB with http://www.stampboards.com/ or the FB stampboards friend itself. The link will come up every time you move your cursor over it, and stampboards will be listed in the area where you push like and ect.! Every time you post a picture of Stamps or just a picture at your leisure this WILL help to promote Stampboards. :wink:
