Another shady way of selling on eBay: the old inflated retail value trick:

That seller pads retail values wildly. I've bought from him just once -- I spotted a good Western Australia stamp lurking in one of his junk lots

He says a lot are stacked on top of each other so that adds cat value up pretty FAST!

Right now not reached reserve at ~$200.

I know that seller. I have gotten a couple of decent large lots from him, but also one where the alleged good stamps were fakes marked as such (but not mentioned in the lot and not shown) so ended up working out a partial refund.

"nystamps" and "noblespirit" are two other sellers of large lots that like to put insane "estimated retail values" on the lots. I just look at the scans. If the lot looks like junk, I assume it is junk.

Up to $US391 .. . and reserve still not met! :)

I have just typed up 15 x World War 1 era world albums in a large carton into my fixed price list for $A225.

I really must get onto this ebay racket! :(

My estimate of catalogue value on such things is - "who knows, and who cares."
