Any ideas how many countries this Mobil Oil Charles Lindbergh Cinderella was used in?

I can't find it in NZ Heslop or any reference to it in oz.

Nothing in Frommers booklets either.

The pic is attached to a 1927 Vacuum Oil Cover from Perth WA i presume it is a Mobil Oil promotional label, printed by the yanks and sent out to representatives.

Nothing whatsoever so do with Aust or NZ so why you'd look in Frommer AAMC or Heslop beats me!

105% American I'd bet, and a few might have been sent to the office here as a curio etc, and someone has used it on the reverse of an envelope.

Be quite collectible though, due to subject matter.

Not the answer I was looking for.

I need somebody who is knowledgeable on Cinderellas not somebody who just discounts these rare items with negative statements.

A lot of motor companies sent promotional ‘stickers’ all over the world to be used on mail.

I mentioned OZ & NZ because they are on the envelope with the label correctly used.

I also mentioned Heslop as he lists USA labels that were used in NZ.

RE-PO is a classic example a set of 14 is listed at NZ$1,400.00. I already said the Moblioil was printed by the yanks.

So no more negative posts thanks. If you don’t know don’t waste your time.

Ha!

Well sorry if the truth hurts.

Well let me re-phrase it then the way YOU want.

It is incredibly scarce, if not unique, mainly because Dave owns it, and will be on the front cover of the next AAMC as Dave Elsmore has somehow decided it is Australian and "RARE" to boot.

You are a clown sometimes Dave, you really are.

It is a $5-$10 label from any American Cinderella seller I'd guess. But why not list it in your Revenue Cat at $10,000 like many other things you own are listed at - you are free to do that of course. Some bunny may bite. 8)

Harry Bazelmans probably has a full sheet or two he can sell you. You can retire early.

It is not Australian once again, to answer your plea. And boorishly abusing anyone who states the obvious, will not MAKE it Australian!

No, let's leave it open here Dave, in case someone can offer a link to an ebay seller of it for $5 for $10 of your "rarity" - just to really make your day.

You asked the question, and as usual on STAMPBOARDS, someone will have the answer. :)

And we DO make allowances for Queenslanders, we really do - but just a tip, the long established Queen's English is -

"you're" - not "your" - OK?

http://www.grammar-monster.com/easily_confused/youre_your.htm

So a lesson in basic English Grammar AND a free lesson in Cinderellas, all in the one day.

We'll work on commas and full stops next week - no need to overload you all at once.

No need for a Thank You.

Charles Lindbergh understood that if he was successful in his solo attempt that it could open up new opportunities. After arrival in Paris he cabled the Vacuum Oil Company and informed them that he had used Gargoyle Mobiloil "B" in his plane. It is believed that he sent numerous cable to other companies but Vacuum was one of the few that cashed in on his initial endorsements.

In addition to the cinderellas, post card and magazine ads with Lindy's endorsement of Mobiloil were common. I have seen a few designs of mobiloil cinderellas and numerous promotional post cards featuring Lindbergh with most selling in the 2-15 USD range. The cinderellas on Vacuum covers are far less common and command a significantly higher price. I suspect that used on an Aussie cover could carry a nice premium with the right collectors.

Many thanks Russ.

A; for sharing your knowledge

B; for bringing some common sense back into this thread

I have had a few email communications, one from 'World Poster Stamps' UK owned and run by Charles Kiddle author of too many books to count and very well respected in Cinderella circles, who tells me in all his years of dealing he has never seen a copy of this poster stamp, it will fit nicely on an exhibit page for future exhibiting.

Dave

All Russ did was largely agree with me I think.

Dave,

At $A35 posted for that dreary looking window faced cover, VERY badly damaged - you got no ebay bargain I’d suggest – it was about right. If you like it, that's good. But to abuse anyone who polints out it was no super buy is a bit rich.

It was FAR more than I'd have priced it for in that dreadful shape, that much is certain - $25, and I'd have been over the moon -

As I typed, a few bucks loose for the label if you ever see one offered, and on a highly defective cover $35 is about right, in line with what Russ indicated.

HOWEVER, speaking of "common sense" as you are, I'd have to agree it was a far better buy for you than your £900 (~$A1300) “Buy It Now” sucker bait con, for a complete fresh mint set of 1913 MUH Kangaroos to £2!

The stamp community (nearly) all knows that set sells for TEN times that in the real world.

Sorry to hear of experienced collectors and exhibitors being sucker punched for 900 quid by a less than 100 feedback seller, who has only dealt in Dollar Shop lots before.

He clearly took your money and ran laughing into the distance, causing you to waste hours wrestling with PayPal etc for a refund many weeks later.

Sadly that is the price of not listening to that little voice most folks have in their heads - “If it seems too good to be true - it probably IS”!

And please spare us the inevitable - "BUTTTTTTTTTTTTT I have now and again bought bargains on ebay." Those Roos were truly a Bunny Bait Rolled Gold classic. :)

Like offering current $100 bills at $10 'Buy It Now' - some offers just have red flags waving wildly to most savvy bidders. 8)

ALL gamblers are losers - that is a proven statistic. But they ALL tell us 'Last week I put $1000 on a 10 to 1 outsider" or "my poker machine spat out a $20,000 jackpot". They just forget to mention all the losing days. :)

Anyway, you feel I am just a 'time waster', who does not have a clue about Cinderellas and labels, so what would I know? I'll just slink off an be a full time dealer again. 8) 8)

Glen

I see Glen Stephens has now turned to stalking me, there is a name for people like you and something seriously wrong with you.

I will try and humour you from now on to save the 72 font and all the bollocks that go with it, just stay away from my threads and keep your nasty comments to yourself.

I was not looking at what it cost, but you appear to be money mad, how sad, typical back yard second hand dealer!

As for the roos, I reported it to paypal and got my money back in 2 weeks, no big deal at all, where on earth you get “waste hours wrestling with PayPal etc for a refund many weeks later.” Is beyond me and who cares anyway, I don’t.

Get a life man.

I will not be answering and more on this thread so go your hardest.

That name you are grasping for is 'Googler' perhaps? Stalking? How many times do you think the word 'Vacuum' has even appeared in ebay stamp listings? Get a grip Dave. We do not all live in Queensland.

Dave, I must have missed something. YOU were the bottom feeding greedy opportunist who tried to buy these Roos for FIVE TO TEN per cent of real world retail on a 'Buy It Now' listing.

I only raised them as an example of this Lindbergh thing being a better buy for you, than the Roos.

I suggest you hoped to make a massive killing, $10,000 or so, selling them to a real dealer or auction. The greed haze overpowered your caution and common sense it seems, and you got sucked in by the oldest trick in the ebay book - newbies selling things to "Bargain Hunting Bunnies", that they do not own.

So if anyone is money mad here - all members can see who it is.

As I said, "money mad me" would have been delighted with $25 for the tatty old cover - but what would a mere 'back yard second hand dealer' know about this hobby?

Where? The thing about fibbing Dave, is you need to be consistent when doing it - YOU posted elsewhere here it took THREE weeks to get your ÂŁ900 refund.

And you never were GUARANTEED you'll get refunded - had he mailed you an empty Registered envelope, you were royally SCREWED if seller was savvier. You just got lucky is all.

And we ALL know how much paperwork and time that kind of refund entails with PayPal and ebay, so do not even try to bluster your way around that.

I presume you meant "any" more?

I doubt a person alive believes that Dave. You can't help yourself. 8)

While we are waiting for your next outburst, other members might have input on the Lindbergh label, and other covers it might have been sighted on.

Glen

The cinderella market is difficult to predict. Rarity has little to do with price, it all hinges on demand. Most cinderellas are of low demand as there is not that much of a true collector base. Philatelic expo labels seem to thrive the best.

I have a small collection of cinderellas and some are extremely rare but none are extremely valuable. Advertising stamps off cover seem to have very little value. The problem is that they are not well cataloged and that most collectors simply keep them as curiosities.

I have a few local stamp club labels from the 1890's - 1910's I took to a collector of philatelic labels. He told me he had very seen any of them. When I ask him about value he stated that probably $5-10 each. Even rare item are of low value when no market exists.

Dave, what you have is a uncommon and nice item with the stamp on a company corner card. Very nice item for a Lindbergh or oil company collector. I collected items I like, if I collected items only of value my collection would be very small. If I had the item I would create a special page with a full write-up. Many people believe we should only treat high value items special. My entire collection is special and is written up and displayed that way.

Collecting is about you and what you like and what you want your collection to look like.
