Can anyone tell me what this 1896 Kvitance is about?

I assumed it was written in Czech in that Uherském BrodÄ› is now in the Czech Republic.

That go me as far as 'kvitance' meaning 'receipt' in English.

Hello maptrekker,

Yes, the town is Uherský Brod in the Czech Republic close to the border with Slovakia.

It appears to say something like...

... I the undersigned, as wages for the second quarter of 1896 from the road fund in Uherský Brod paid in cash received...

Google translate gives this, with adjustments to grammar:

Receipt.

For 33 Zlaty. words: Thirty three Zlaty (gold florins?) which I the undersigned received as wages for the second quarter of 1896 from the Road Fund in Uherském BrodÄ› received in cash ...

I'm surprised that the zlatý (gulden) currency was still in use in 1896 and not the koruna (krone) that replaced it in 1892. :?:

Thanks for the translations.

The gulden wasn't completely replaced (demonitized) until 1 Jan 1900. Until then, both circulated at two krone to the gulden.

Note the revenue stamps are still denominated in kreuzer and not heller. In fact, Austria did not issue the heller/krone stamps until 31 Dec 1899.
