Hi!

I know nothing about coins but recently I was soughting some small change and noticed a slight differance .On a closer look with an eye piece I noticed the outer rings were just there or not at all.

Also the surface does not appear to have a polished look, more of a rough texture and if you look at the design on both sides a lot of the detail is missing.

If a forgery why bother ?
Regards

Brickie143. :( :)

Corrosion by the look of it as the surface pitting is overall.

Perhaps dropped and it lay in acidic or alkaline soil for 40 years until it was found. That would do it to nickel alloys.

I'm still wondering when are Australian going to get rid of 5 cent coins? Surely the only purpose of them is to annoy everyone.

brickie,
I would hold onto it, it might be a miss-strike. (or mis-strike)

I found a coin forum where it might be worth posting pictures of your coin there and see what they say.

I would make that "worthy of further investigation".

Nice list, Skippy. :D

It looks like its been heated up red hot, by an oxy torch and wire brushed.
I've seen this on steel, but not on a 5'er.
