"...Not every country in the world owns its own mint or bank note printing facility. For this reason the contracts through which nations without these facilities get their coins and bank notes are lucrative and sought competitively by both government owned and private mints and security printing establishments.

Among the competitors is Note Printing Australia, a government owned agency that is on the cutting edge of technology, printing polymer or plastic bank notes for Australia and other nations. According to the May 26 issue of The Age newspaper, something is amiss regarding a contract to print polymer bank notes for Vietnam."

An update on this, the offices of Securrency (the company the subject of the investigations) were raided by the Federal Police late last week, as part of the ongoing criminal investigation. The homes of some senior company officials were also raided.

It is hard, for me at least, to see how things could have come to this. The Reserve Bank of Australia has a real problem on it's hands and needs to do a thorough housecleaning.

Paying 'facilitators' reminds me of the loan scandal back in the 1970s (Tirath Kemlanhi hired by a Minister of the Crown, Rex Connor, to source Arab money as loans to the Australian Govt).
