Great to see that you've conquered Photobucket, Peter.

Still not sure why it wasn't working for you because from my checking everything seems OK but whatever the problem was you've obviously resolved it.

No looking back now!!

Jason I have merged your topic here as it is the right place to get the answers you seek.

Have you read the instructions on page 1 of this topic?
http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=284

If not go and read it and follow it step by step and then come back here and practice.

As I collect both Congo-Kinshasa and Congo-Brazzaville, I thought this might be appropriate.

Hello!
Excuse if I write not there, I am simple for the first time on philatelists a forum and at all very much I understand where to me to write... The matter is that I managed some marks, value or not which value I do not understand, and would like to learn, where it is possible to lay out their photo to understand to throw out them or to leave. Since they mostly foreign, me have advised to address on a foreign forum. Thanks and once again excuse, if a question not in a theme.

I want to ask the board about an odd cancellation I have come across. How do I load and image ? Looking at the FAQ it implies that I cannot unless the images are on a website......how do I do that ? Simon

You use Photobucket http://photobucket.com/

It's free, you load your image to there after opening an account, and follow their instructions (and the ones here on stampboards)

And try this thread viewtopic.php?f=18&t=284

It gives you detailed information on how to do it

What am I doing wrong in photobucket ? Have set up account, but when I hit "upload now" nothing happens............seems to suggest that will upload from My Computer, but no link opens up and cannot get into my computer from the site ? Might it be my firewall stopping it ? Second, does photobucket always have those popups offering free prizes and spam ???

You can use any web space to host images. Most ISPs
provide a small amount of personal web space to subscribers.
The advantage of Photobucket (and other similar services,
e.g. Cjoint) is longevity of the images.

If you use personal web space you will need to use FTP to
upload images.

Unless you pay $20 a year like I do for the "Pro" version, it will of course.

I hate them, hence there are none on this board, no matter how profitable that might be.

Heinz55,
it seems you have no problems with adding pictures.
Now we are hoping for interesting scans of your collection.

Hi, My photobucket stuff up. :(

A sincere apology to Glen, all moderators and all members for the ugly white blotches which I have caused. :( . I take full blame for this. .

My son helps me one's some every second or third month when he visit us. He lend a hand(with quick fingers) to me to transfer stamps and first day covers scans from my computer to photobucket.

When done he asked, dad for future how many more do you plan to up loud?. I respond just pointing to the stamp cabinet maybe all of it. With a cry of disagreement  and a flow of arguments he claims, dad you will never control it.

He then pointing to the stamp cabinet and stated, over 22 overstuffed stock books, one big fat file of sheets, control blocks, blocks and strips, 12 flat type beer boxes full of cigarette and cigar boxes and tins full of stamps, 25 big 35x25 centimeter envelopes. All over stuffed!!!. That is maybe over 100 thousand items. He picked up the stamp cabinet index book stating.

Without the help of friends or other collectors, just did a lot of reading up and created your own control system. You have proofed that when asked for a certain item of a country and date, in 2 min. you can tell if you got it or not.

Now for 64 years you never liked to answer the phone, maybe you will make a call one's in 3 months time. Never thatched or owned a computer or cell phone(24 hours disturbance you claimed).

Now for the last 10 months you got this cell phone( made only 6 calls) contract just to get hold of the pc-laptop for stampbords.com and control the photobucket with a index( sub albums per country). I will show you quickly( JAK and the lending hands quick fingers are on the move).

All this slow old man could get out was just don't delete any thing!. OK OK dad you have told me that a 100 times you don't want big red crosses. Look I'm finis . :|

Two days later I discover this stuff up. I am  :(. Please do not ban me. Is there any way to fix this by reloading it?. nothing is deleted.

Niek  :( .

My first try to see if this works. A lovely example of a Barbados Britannia, SG79 Chrome Yellow cat around £140 and this one has a BPA certificate of authenticity with it as well.

It previews well but as it is only a low res version it looks a little fuzzy - I'll try uploading the higher res versions next time.

Yup, worked. Works a lot better with stamp on a black or dark backround. Makes it pop more. :D

Admin.

A reply reminded me that in a fit of stupidity I deleted from bucket the only pic I have posted. Tried to find an undelete but couldn't.

This happened when I posted it and other pics in a new thread. I got a message implying some were too big even though I have photobucket set lower then recommended. So in hast I deleted all three to try again.

My appologies.

Good shots bardhi. Maybe take the plastic off and just leave the black backround though, as there is quite a flash off the plastic. :D

I am still having problems uploading photographs to the board. Even though I have followed advise and set to 800x600 size my images are too small to be of any use. Am I making a mistake with the original scan or am I missing something in photobucket.

Any help would be appreciated

It is likely that it is the original image - if it is less than 800 x 600 then it will still come at that smaller size. Photobucket will reduce the size but not increase it. Having said that it is possible to increase the size but it will be a waste of time if the resolution is too low in the original.

Where are the originals coming from? A web-site? Scans of your own items?

Hi

They are scans of stamps, original items. Can I increase the size of the item somehow before/during scanning

A few comments then, although I may say things you already know.

Your scans should be at a minimum of 300 dpi, 600 is better and if you really want to show the fine details of the stamps then use 1200 dpi.

If you have scanned one stamp at a time then all you need to do is straighten the image and crop it using Picasa.

If the scan is of multiple stamps then you have two choices. You can use the software developed by member jadrake or you can crop each stamp individually using Picasa. If you do the latter, then you need to make as many copies as there are additional stamps so that you can crop a different stamp from each one.

When I do this I choose to then use Save as in Picasa to place the image on my hard drive in the /stamps/stampboards folder.

This image can then be uploaded to Photobucket at one of the three acceptable sizes.

These items from my collection have all been through the process above and then posted to Stampboards:

320 x 240

640 x 480

800 x 600
