Well today's meeting was quite eventful. Fercon Jerry had arrived home with his booty from Philas Auctions. He had a beautiful Red Cross Album and several folders of RED Cross items. He also bought some Aerogrammes of Malaysia and Singapore ( I think from Old Harry at the morning session).

Everyone must have been in a good frame of mind- I gave Philly some solicitors and Church covers and a stamp exhibition cinderella on cover and a stampex78 cancellation on a PSE. Philly gave me some scouts stamps, Malaysian PPC's, and 2 nice scouting 75th Anniv. postcards with scout cancellations. he also gave me a lighhouse PSE from kangaroo Is. He also gave me some Singapore PPC's to pass onto Kennywkt. Old harry sold me about 50 Malaysian FDC's which were in perfect nick. Exchanges also went Philly-Fercon Jerry- Philly. Old Harry Fercon Jerry-Old Harry.

I think Old Harry must be slipping a cog , every now and then. Today he admitted that he did not remember having a SG Canada album. A lot of the earlies were missing but he said he would soon have it nearly full. We reminded him that we knew someone who had a $5 QV Jubilee if he needed one. (Fercon Jerry).

My show and tell was a selection fro the box I bought at the Brighton PS auction. I thought I had bought a dud but it was not the case. 95% were all the one PPE (postage Paid Envelope) of the Aboriginal Art series sent eithr to the Taxation Office or Photo Camera Office (Fines for going through a Red Light Camera) Then I got down to the gold.... several beautiful pictorial cancels, Priority Paid mail, and Box Link labels. Then the bronze- advertising printed PSE's. and 1950's windowed envelopes with clear slogan machine cancels. Some mint PSE's and some nice cds.

I know what rs means in Australia (but can't print it here). Something to do with rattus rattus. related to bs with which you are oh1 so familiar.

Received in the mail today, a specimen of a Pitney-Bowes imprint with no value and seasons greetings.......must be Christmas in July.

Thanks to my Tasmanian benefactor.

With the hand held gizzmos, it is still amazeing what the present know-it-all generation do not know that they do not know. How to saddle and ride a horse.
"R S" was once a common expression, which would only draw blank faces today.
Male stag deer grow their antlers every year, the bone being covered by a membrane that they rub off onto tree branches etc, and was once collected for "interesting " uses.
And the next generation produceing activities that they were engaged in became known as  "R S" = the Rutting Season.
Males fighting and mateing, bit like King Street night clubs after dark or Kings Cross. :o
And yes, we have feral introduced deer in Australia, several types in fact.
I look forward to eating some when promises are fulfilled.

We have lots on the roads here now. Mostly Sambar.

I can bring you a fresh roadkill next time I find one, if you have storage.

It will either be still warm, or quick chilled to about -5 degrees by the frosty night, less than 12 hours dead.

Good one Muruk. The hind quarters will be enough or maybe the choice cut along the back (eye fillet).

GLUE STAINS,........
Be aware of peel and stick covers. Whilst going through some old covers ~1986), I came across stains where the peel and stick envelope glue was. This glue stain had seeped through to the front of the envelope making it worthless.

Thank you muruk,
Please use nicely cancelled stamps, so that I can add it to my "Unusual things that have been mailed to you": collection.
I do have a freezer, and it appears that I have been Warnoffed my previous offer
Are they a feral problem up there, or able to co-exist? :?:

There is a large whale washed up on the shoreline at Warrnambool, but I might give that a miss. Don't want to compete with the Great White sharks :?

If this is still the "guess the abbreviation" thread ...

GD is now injuring a lot of people, and even killing some ... been in the news lately ... so what's "GD"?

That's enough with that GOOD DOG quip. There was nothing good about the loss to Carlton.

Hawks played really well, PeterS. I put them right up the top now, as with the Swans ( I have to say that as Mrs.W. is a fanatic (in the true sense of the word)) Swans supporter.

GD could also stand for Great Demons but we all know that's not true.

Nice tries, but not correct ...

Gadget Distraction ... as in: "talk on a mobile phone and get run over by a tram" type of thing.

Good D'one
Now a question to consider with this new age.
If I am at a meal with the younger members of the family, and instead of engageing in conversation, shareing their life experiences, discussing the meal, compareing the merits of the wine, eating the Gastropod Delicacies, they are;
 talking on their cell phones
 twiddling with their thumbs
 sitting there with blank expressions and ear plugs inserted
 submitting a job application on their portable computer
   checking that someone they have never met has tweeted a comment about nothing
....is it inappropriate for me to term them as.....Bi-Textual :?: :?: :?:

If they are doing all the above at the same time, apart from it being a miracle, they would be Pent-Textual

Philly stop this rot right now. The Grumpy Old Men's Club also stands for good etiquette and the use of many abbreviations is beneath us. Say what you mean and mean what you say. None of this geek talk.

Back to the subject of stamps, have any of you visited the cinderella thread? I would like to get your thoughts on the stamp issues there? I am also going to issue this cover with my MPP on it
Image

If any of you s/b would like one e-mail me your address so I can mail it to you. The olympic stamp will add up to current international postage with different stamps.

One of my work colleagues is addicted to brake fluid.

But he says not to worry, because he can stop any time.

douglas,
yes, those of the GOMC that have computers have visited the suggested site.
I overlooked speaking to Harry about your FDC and Cinderellas today, but I try to follow up as an outlet for you here in Australia.

Lakatoi 4,
yes Jerry was very pleased with the Red Cross material as that is one of his interests.
He brought it in last week, and was probably worth the money on covers alone , without the album set up.
I also told Jerry that if the Lord Howe Island dropped to $200,  to pick it up for me, but it seems that he overlooked bidding.   He did look at it and again said very attractive.
Unfortunately, others also found it to be attractive.

muruk, brake fluid should not be consumed in Winter as the viscosity level drops below an Australian Regulated Standard Expectation ( A*SE )...beware of cheap imports

A Thai restaurant in Lonsdale Street, Melbourne had an explosion when useing the Cock Roach bombs that Glen recommends. They had set off 10 on Saturday night.

Yes that is right.

Doh :!:

Didn't the idiots realise that the propellant in those roach bombs is butane and when a fridge starts a spark can ignite the whole shebang. Worse still if there's a pilot light on a gas stove, we're talking massive fuel air explosive mixture :!:

Still it reduces the number of idiots in the world, and that ain't bad.

Speaking of vermin in Asian restaurants ...

I had a friend who wanted a pet spider ... but the pet shop was asking $70.

I said it would be much cheaper to get one off the web. :o

Okay Muruk,

Did you hear about the termite that walked into the pub, looked around and asked, "Is the bartender here?"

And then the one about two vultures after a winter's retreat in Florida, were headed back north for the summer. Too tired to fly, they had booked a flight by commercial carrier. Nonplussed to see these two old birds saunter in, the attendant nevertheless took care of them. Each brought with them a dead armadillo. She dutifully asked if they would like their "luggage" checked.

"Oh no," said the vultures...."they're carry-on."

Speaking of vermin in Asian restaurants ...

I had a friend who wanted a pet spider ... but the pet shop was asking $70.

I said it would be much cheaper to get one off the web. :o

When those spiders were invading Australia why didn't he go get one of them there free. As for asian restaurants I try to eat at only ones I know are safe. Do you know what PETA stands for? "People Eating Tasty Animals" mustard anyone?

This is not confirmed, :? :?
but I was informed yesterday that ParryOne ( the Apprentice GOMC ) is in hospital.
We hope this is not the case,
If it is we hope that all goes well,
And that you recover quickly.

I made an interesting post on the olympic thread on how I am going to honor the olympics please stop there and view it. I love this thread it is interesting to see how people in Australia see things, although some of the jokes I don't get. Some day I have to visit Australia and see for myself.

The reason you don't get some of the jokes is because they aren't terribly funny.

I am sorry but I only come to this thread to ingest some serious philatelic information; so as to expand and enlighten my philatelist interests.

Religious nun ? Wild west ?

Purely for the philatelic content, please re-relate this story here.
Again, it must be an article that I unfortunately missed.

No...no...no, don't ask him for it again. He's just trying to get his post numbers up. No more, no less.
