They weren't described as normal stockbooks but that there were 3 or 4 full sets of AP yearbook books amongst the boxes of stuff. There was some thought that it may have just been 3 or 4 books alone of the annual albums, but there are about 60 of the books, so when I first opened a box, after being warned by Philly who looked in one for me that was just Chinese stockbooks and some fluff, I thought "that's more like it". Then I started looking inside each book and they are all near empty!

I've got the full description and the screen shots etc.
I don't mind buying them, I can use the books and the binders and offload the FDC's but there is not the value that was suggested there would be in the lot.

This is exactly what was written in the blurb:

"You are looking at a huge private stamp collection
plus Yearbooks dating from 1980 - 2009 including several special Olympic editions commemorating the Olympics in Sydney

These stamps are an unwanted inheritance.

There are 7 boxes in total filled with stamps from all over the world, plus special stamped envelopes etc etc and numerous new and used special stamp albums.

Theere are numerous sets of year books - I think three or four full and complete sets from 1980 up to around 2009/2010, plus various books single, as well as a couple of the special edition stamps books that were brought out in 2000 to commemorate the Sydney Olympics."

That seems pretty straight forward to me so I took the plunge.

I think this is the bit that confused everybody

Quote:
Theere are numerous sets of year books - I think three or four full and complete sets from 1980 up to around 2009/2010,

I know that a non stamp collector would open up a book from say 1980, see that all the stamp spots are filled and then say, wow a complete set.
They wouldn't know that they were sold complete to begin with.

Where as a stamp collector would consider a "full set" to be all the books from year A to year Z.
Someone who doesn't know about stamps would see a single full book of anything to be a complete set.

I've done it myself, knowing a few philatelic terms can be misleading.
At a stamp show I was describing my FILs collection to a dealer, to see if he'd come out to do a valuation....
"Oh there is everything from Sydney Views, States stuff, Blocks of Bridges, Roos, KGV, the lot, right up till around 1999. Mint and used."

Of course with that description he was keen to come up to the house and have a look.

Where are the Sydney Views ?, he asked.
Here it is, I proudly showed him the grotty torn ONE I had found.
And the blocks of mint bridges ?
Right here - says I, (but they weren't the 5/ bridge as he expected)

I cringe now when I think about it

Well, I had seen a Sydney View in there, and the other things, so to me the collection had everything "From Sydney Views to modern"

I have to disagree with you Skippy, he used the word 'COMPLETE', which to me means nothing missing but from woody's description there were holes in almost every book and they were filled by used stamps. Complete is not a stamp term but one of general use. If something is complete then nothing is missing.

Empty year books/ ones filled with used stamps sell for about $5 down here, if you can sell them. I know at one stage Ron had about 100 and was selling them for $2, just to get rid of them. Used hagners sell for 10/$5 and used binders sell for next to nothing in auctions, Philly picked up 3 large cartons ( about 50) for $10.00.

In my opinion, I think there are grounds for a Paypal reversal, since the goods were not as described. Whether he knows something or nothing about stamps, his description is misleading. If he has only flipped through the books and seen any gaps, then they are not complete and to most people and most people would bid accordingly.

Apart from that he said boxes full of..... from my sources, some of the boxes were not full at all ( and he felt that there would be crushing of the boxes and contents were stacked in a courier van.).

Ok we'll have to agree to dissagree.
To me it sounded like a collection plus "some" complete books.
He also said he didn't know anything about stamps, and didn't have time to go through the boxes and see what is in them, or something like that.

I've only just realised I didn't mention my concerns about this lot directly to you Woody, and in hindsight I should have.
I must have mentioned it to Bill or others in a different thread or in conversation somewhere.
Anyway This isn't helping Woody, so I'll butt out now.

edit:

Yeah Skippy, I am glad I did not win it. I know it cost Woody a bit to transport it, which he will never get back if he returns the items.

Philatus you carry on at times. I thought you may have changed now you're the senior executive of the Grumps. Although you still don't have the executive power of GOMC1.

I am afraid that the position of GOMC 1 will never be claimed by any other person.
As to now being the Senior member, that is GOMC 2, Harry aka "The Silver Fox", in both reality and depth of knowledge.
You are not suggesting that   the Court Jester   be elevated are you, that would make it very difficult for me to move a motion, and then produce my black balls to veto it.
Perhaps now Fercon Jerry as he is retired from working, or Captain Grumpy to keep everyone on a leash,
or muruk to allow him to ban the reference to 212,000 viewings

Philianthropist is the Court Jester ?

Really ?

I honestly thought he was the quiet, serious, sensitive one at the Royal Court of GOMC.

If this is true, how does this reflect on the rest of the Court Hangers On ?

Vekenone- that is just his outer persona, underneath he would cut off your fingers if you grabbed something he wanted. He has every emotional trick in the book to get what he wants.

Philly, no need coming tomorrow then. I'll go straight to Prestige.

Buderim Mountain: RO 1/4/1874; PO 1/6/1884; renamed Buderim PO c.1897.

Apparently began life as Mount Buderim, and used QLD barred numeral 376.

And that's all I know about it

(apart from the fact the ginger tastes nice  )

Minutes of the Tuesday meeting of the GOMC;
.
Morning meeting, no idea, bed was more appealing
.
Afternoon session;
Fercon Jerry, Harry and myself, but We'are'off did not appear which was unfortunate as the Footscray cancelled George Vs would have been my generous hearted give away
Then the three of us departed for a viewing at Prestige Auctions, but again no Waroff to buy the coffee.
The weather was beautiful, so he must have been in the garden waiting for rain.   :? 8)
Left at 5.45 ( Jerry still viewing of course ) to do grocery shopping at one of our favourite book shops. :? :? :?
I am not into Scouting material, but if you are, then this is THE place to be on Friday with Ernie Stermole's collections.
213,000 slipped past this morning.
Regards

Hay GOMC's and other Stampboards members,

This picture is of a e-mail I recieved from a club I belong to about forgeries, the other e-mail is my reply to his e-mail. This individual mentioned is at it again. I covered his 1983 Dutch postal strike forgeries. Just thought I should mention it, to fellow collectors, and can I add it as a post script to my exhibit even though it covers current events?

Image

Let me know if you find any of these items, I am disclosing infomation that I indepently varified based on available infomation. Some infomation has been redacted to avoid bots.

The email doesn't seem to read (to me), about any postal strike forgeries Douglas, but probably the recent spate of fake Dutch stamps that there was shown on a seperate thread that the Dutch authorities got a hold of and shut them down, mostly.

Their good, but can easily be shown as fakes. They have been used to pay for postage by placing a group on a prepaid small sheet to be stuck onto parcels and the like.

I'll find the thread: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=33419&hilit=dutch+forgeries

Hi fellow stamp board members,

Here is something I discovered that is related to my post, here is the url to a fellow stamp community website about the person buying questionable stamps from someone with the same name
http://www.stampcommunity.org/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2706&whichpage=1

Let me know what you think. Allenswood I know I just am tieing in this mans prior forgeries from that strike as a tie in to current issues.

Nobody in the GOMC wears a tie, it's not part of the dress code. So we never tie in anything( except sometimes philly has to wear braces to lift his centre of gravity)..

"MELBOURNE EMERGENCY MAILS
A prolonged postal strike occurred in January 1968 bringing mails to a halt throughout Australia. Initially only inter-office transport of mails was affected and local deliveries continued.
Taling advantage of this situation the Melbourne transport firm of H. A. Bachrach organised a system of transporting parcels and letters from a central Melbourne office to individual suburban post offices where they were accepted for local delivery. The actual delivery arrangements were carried out by Save Time Services of Flinders Lane, Melbourne.
The service was operated only on two days January 18 and 19, when suburban post office workers joined the strike, thus rendering the emergency service ineffective.
Emergency mail stickers ( as illustrated ) were prepared for affixing to parcels and letters in addition to normal postage. The five denominations in the series were printed on white gummed paper and were imperforate.
A number of the covers on the market were philatelically inspired but nevertheless the labels did perform a genuine ( local ) postal function on the days the service operated."

Frustrating that they are part of a larger lot.

Only one of these did not sell, some of the others were well past the reserves, with at least three active scouting collectors in the room, but it seemed that a "certain one" cleaned up.
The opportunity of a lifetime was here    for those interested in such material.
Also, lot 12 had an estimate of $250, but sold for $2050.....Did I miss something there  :? :? :? :?:

Well I missed out at Prestige, put in an internet bid and it finally sold for $625 ( one bid above mine). Did better at Phoenix, picked up some postmarks, souvenir covers, balloon mail & cinder sheet, Viet-Nam forces mail, paquetbot mail, a couple of flight covers and lots of Aust packs(= postage).

Since I can't follow auctions in Australia can any of you down under if you see something related to postal strikes or mail distruption please let me know as I may have to register with the auction house. I really need items from the 1927, 1928 and 1932 Shanghai postal strike coupons they look like this

Image

Only the 1927 and 1928 coupons have the date on them.

Well, Storm have not lost a game all season yet, so hopefully they will continue to be the flag bearers.

My magic 8 ball is failing me! :? 3 of 6 in round 7 hopefully the last three games will make me 6 of 9. Question in round 11-13 there is a "BYE" what does that mean? I hope to do a 9 of 9 round someday.

If any of you come across any bicycle mail covers and stamps let me know. In uncovering more about my France 1909 and 1953 post strikes I discovered other bicycle mail and desided to try to acquire enough material for a one frame. Let me know please if any of you find these things or from that Shanghai strike.

Each team has a bye during the season, which is a week off. The bye is spread over more than one round, so that there is no weekend with no games at all.

I believe that Waroff was going to see the doggies, expecting them to lose. If you hear a siren type screeching, sizzelling  noise do not be alarmed.
It will be Waroff,
and he will doubtlessly tell us all about it, here again, as if we do not have the news broadcasts on our crystal radio sets. 8) :o :o :o
Melbourne Demons lost again, and are below the Gold Coast and the GollieWogS on the ladder, so we are in for a big end run if we are still to make the finals :? :? :? :? :?
There again, at the moment, we cannot even beat the Hawthorn Hawks.

the weekend past was Scottish Phialtelic Congress and some stampboarders met for the first time over a pint!

AKPhilately & Vikingeck had a chat on Friday !

Scotsmanabroad, Machaggis, Vikingeck ,and Noggin the Nog did meet for a pint about 1.30 in the upstairs bar! Adrian ( AK was busy on the Host Society Stand and didn't join us. Scotsmanabroad did take a group photo and may post it later.
AKPhil had to leave for home early and was not available.

I had visions of establishing a Scottish chapter of the GOMC--- but as the oldest in the group by about 2 decades I decided the other 4 couldn't qualify on grounds of age

Leaving me to be grumpy all on my own :(

Off the top of my head, I think Scotsmanabroad, is already an associate of the GOMC. Deemed by the original and only GOMC 1.

Off the top of my head, age does not make a Scotsman grumpy, birth does.

well! :o :o :o
I suggest if Scotsman Abroad is an associate member of the GOMC- he got in under false pretences! :x :x :x :x

The youngest of the quartet who met for a pint! He lied about his age === He is however somewhat more hirsute than I ! :(

Yeah well with a monachre like like that, GOMC 1 felt sympathy and admitted him as an associate, many moons ago. GOMC 1 had his private Scots army which he rarely talked about in front of the GOMC, but every now and then stuff would turn up from Scotland or Scots in pommieland.

Just an update for Philly and Waroff...

The "Box Lot" fiasco has been esculated to a claim and counter claim by the seller. So Paypal is going to have to make a determination.

The seller is now adding remarks and altered information that was not exchanged previously. He has cast doubt on my honesty as to what I found in the boxes.

He is now saying that all the books had all their stamps in them and that they were all new.

So I will prepare my stat dec and ask my witnesses to fill in the same as we opened the sealed boxes at my workplace and that was the first time the sticky tape on the boxes had been cut.

There are 78 Annual Albums! Had the stamps actually been in there I would have been a very happy chappy for the price I paid. And he thinks I'm ripping him off by filing a claim for a partial refund!

215,000 urgent reviews, seeking our guidance.    8)
But a bit of a bummer in the "Today's News" column, makes Canberra name-calling seem mild.
Regards with it all.

All I can say is------- Go for it Woody. And remind Paypal, the boxes were not full. A half a box is only that a half. I know it's late now but I'd be going for a Full refund and transit costs.
