Last month aerophilately08 displayed the Wings of Prey series from Gibraltar. My main thematic collection is of birds and I am trying to collect as many Peregrine Falcon stamps as I can afford.

The collection is of birds only - except for these three. Image

A Tornado and a Peregrine - a joy to behold.

I don't know what this is, but it's a nice photo, and the
pilot had plenty of windows to LOOK OUT! of:

This is only a half-educated guess, and I wait on real identification from our experts.

Is it a Boeing 307 Stratoliner from the 1950's :?:

Two more points I noticed; the ancient red fueling (?) truck
with just a "T" showing, probably Texaco.

And note the two leggy smartly-uniformed "stews" in the
background.

======
I looked at Boeing 307 images in Google, I think you're right.

If only phoyographer had stepped about 5 steps to the left then the shot would have shown all 4 Boeing 307 Stratoliners in the photo not just the wings (And the stewy's would have been closer)

I was up in Seoul yesterday paying the British Embassador's salary for the month (renewing my passport - don't ever do it abroad if you can help it  ) I spent some time at the postal museum and War Memorial Museum. The WMM was so good that I didn't have time to see everything, so will go back in July during the PhilaKorea Expo. Anyway here are some photos for the experts to identify.

I will call myself an enthusiast, not an expert, but I will start the ball rolling with no. 205 (shown in several photos) which is a North American F-51D, RF-51 Mustang.

During the Korean War they were used as long-range fighter-bombers by the US, Australian, South African, and Republic of Korea Air Forces.

If they are not all named by tomorrow I will have another go.

Oh, what a 'time-wasting' thread this is :!:

Here is a another view with different planes for beardmore10 to identify.
Image

I am slowly looking up details of the planes identified above. I agree that the twin-prop plane is a Curtiss-Wright C-46 Commando. The silhouette shape from the Google satellite photo seems to confirm that.

The Google view indicates there are more to be photographed so we look forward to Don's return visit. I notice there is at least one more plane inside the museum.

On a family holiday to Malta last month,i went over to the Malta Aviation Museum at Ta'Qali and photographed this C-47 and C-45 in the restoration area.

Image

The DC-3/C-47A-90-DL was last registered in Canada as C-FITH but originally delivered to the USAAF on the 06/05/44 as 43-15762.
The C-45H Expeditor was last registered in the States as N495F but originally delivered to the American military as 52-10958.
Not a lot seems to have been done over the last couple of years but it is a very small museum and i guess funds are tight....will post some more later.

Folks,

I have just started a collection of "Helicopters on Stamps" as my son is a Helicopter pilot.
These are the first stamps I have found from exchange sheets at my local Philatelic Club.
Lots more to collect I know but it is fun looking and searching!

Cheers

Another Douglas DC-3/C-47B-30-DK on charge with the Malta Aviation Museum at Ta'Qali.....this machine was delivered to the RAF from the USA around 02/04/45 as KN462,it served until 1952.She was then put on to the British civil register as G-AMPT until being sold abroad around 05/53.
She passed through a further eight or nine owners over the next fifty odd years before ending her days in Malta.

One more from Malta....Gloster Meteor NF-14,delivered to the RAF 03/54 and withdrawn from service during 1967.After nearly four decades of lying about various airfields it found its way to the Malta Aviation Museum around 11/06.

I picked up some of these recently.

Issued by the Crown Agents Stamp Bureau on behalf of the RAF Registered Charities.

Probable issue price was: £1.00, with 75p going to RAFA Eagle Lodge Sheltered Housing Appeal.

I also have a black print similar to this sheet.

I'll never forget walking out of the General Post Office in Kilmarnock in 2005, during the G8 Summit, hearing the "whup-whup" noise overhead, looking up and seeing what looked to me to be a helicopter gunship cruising the streets! (Kilmarnock, for those not blessed to come from there :) , is directly between the naval base, the airport at Pretwick, and where the conference was being held at Gleneagles) I know there was a US aircraft carrier near HMS Gannet. And I thought, "When did I move to a warzone?" There were also two very small, very fast helicopters buzzing about, and they seemed to be made of clear glass/ perspex material....some kind of security/ reconaissance?

Don,as well as a plethora of RAF Chinooks there were also two Army Gazelles being used for security pickets during the G8...but of course the Yanks had to go that little bit bigger, they brought up a handfull of MH-53's from Mildenhall in Suffolk to help protect Bush (in the event a deranged Jock tried to bring him down with a heat seeking Irn-Bru bottle      )
One of the MH-53's is seen here just about to land at Prestwick.

An overview of part of the ramp at Prestwick during arrivals for the G8 in July 05.
Pictured are a couple of VH-3's of the Presidential Flight and two of the MH-53's providing "support",also at the back of the shot are the two B747's that brought in the Japanese premier.....at the very back is an ex Polar Airways Jumbo used for training purposes.

Our local Aviation Museum (200km away at Temora) normally has six 2-day flying days each year. I missed the first two for 2009 but (weather permitting) intend to go on Saturday week. As well as the museum's own aircraft there are usually visitors and this next event will feature a Seahawk and, woomp woomp woomp, yes, a Huey.

I am not much of a photographer but will take along my wifes little job and see what I can do. It won't be like the many who attend with their tripods, filters and huge zoom lens but we can only try.

In the meantime I thought I would share some of the photos from the last flying days.

There were two visitors from the Historic Aviation Restoration Society and here they are.

First a C47

and then, (how could I possibly miss this) a Super Constellation

More in the next few days.

Kevin, the Connie photo brought back some great memories of this old bird.I first came across her in July 1974 at RAF Greenham Common where she attended an airshow there, she was still in USAF service at this time as 54-0157 with the 193rd EWS (Electronic Warfare Squadron) Pennsylvania Air National Guard.
She was retired to Davis Monthan AFB in Arizona in March 1977 and after a time in storage she was transferred to Pima Museum across from the base.I noted her at Pima and then Tucson where i last saw her in October 1994 (fully painted as VH-EAG) after a long restoration with the team from HARS.Great to see she is looking so good!!!!
See the link below for some more background on her and some other Aussie warbirds.

Thanks for that - I think. Just did a quick scroll and it looks like hours of reading. Who is going to do the housework :?:

Anyway here is another visitor to the last airshow. This one is a regular and I have seen her a couple of times.
