As many users will already be aware Adobe Reader X (version 10) update has been released. This is the completely free Adobe PDF Reader that nearly all computers have or use.

I installed it over a week ago.

But I just received an email looking like it was from Adobe but sent from some other mob altogether inviting me to download the update! Sorry I already have it and I know that Adobe does not have my email address! So who are you?

DON'T BE FOOLED!

Well now there is another internet scam doing the rounds via email to get you to "download the update now" etc.

DON'T!

Adobe never sends you an invitation to update or download reader via email -it simply pops up in your regular computer updates available and comes direct from Adobe.

SO DON'T CLICK ON THOSE EMAIL'S.

It appears that these downloads have malware inside to hack your computer and place key loggers (amongst other stuff) onto you system.

I'll add more details as this new (well new for Adobe 10) develops. Adobe, like many major software players, has been used before to send out false download sites. Its not Adobe doing, they can't stop them.

Another tip is to read the word "Adobe" as often the illiterate hackers can't spell properly and the word says "Abode".

If you want the new version of Adobe Reader then go direct to the Adobe website and download it from there.

I just got that one a few minutes ago Greg. Guess what I did without being told :?: I never open any emails from anybody I don't know, in fact, I consider it rude that they even bother

And yet how do they know your email?

I have my Anti "everything" software on more than one computer so I often click OK on the "can't hurt me computer" just to test my Anti-everything software.

So far the software has always come back screaming with bells and whistles warning me ""Do not push that button!" :D

Sometimes I get, "why did you push that button? This is a No-no site! Push it again and you'll be sorry".

(Note to self - update Antimalware and Spyware programs)

VERY good advice from Greg. 8)

Been around a month or so and will fool MANY.

The phishing scam has a subject line "download and upgrade Adobe PDF Reader - Writer for Windows," includes a fake version of Adobe's logo and provides links that would lead to malicious code or other trouble if a victim clicked on them. The e-mail appears to come from Adobe newsletter@pdf-adobe.org, which is part of the scam.

Surprisingly it hasn't hit my gmail email account :!:

I'll check my work email account tomorrow. That world class firewall pretty well stops everything but the scams still get through......so nothing is safe :?

Just a heads up that they are doing it again with the malware emails.

Don't get caught out that they have sent it to your correct email address - its still a malware scam.

Also a repsonse from Adobe itself: http://blogs.adobe.com/pdfitmatters/201 ... ytocom=640

I realise that many will already know about scam and malware emails, however many might not! Thus the heads up. :D

I suggest ALL members take 2 mins to read this excellent site -

http://www.selectrealsecurity.com/malware-removal

No matter how tech clever and savvy you THINK you are, you should read it and act on this tip especially -

Download and install Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

Decline the free trial as they suggest, and run a check and you will be surprised I think. :)

For computer novices a MUST-DO, just follow the instructions on here

http://www.selectrealsecurity.com/malware-removal

There is a much better free PDF system available than Adobe Reader/Acrobat.

It's called Foxit and I use it all the time... it takes up far less space than Adobe and is incredibly user friendly, it does everything that Adobe does but faster and better and more securely, here's a link if you're interested:-

Actually the name of the Big Merino is Rambo. Based on a local grand champion stud ram from the early 1980's. :D

I have received this phishing scams along with many others from banks, they are rife on yahoo which has the worst email system of all. I get dozens of scam emails a day, including African scam offers from Bless Okereke, Mariam Abacha and even one from Tunde Abacha saying his brother had been stuck in space since 1990 and needed money for a rocket to come home.

I get heaps of silly Russian girl sex offers and every now and then I get an email from India or Iran offering me stamps.
