The Stampboards AFL Footy Tipping Contest is starting for the 2013 season, and all members are welcome to join in the fun.
We had over 30 starters in 2008, over 50 in the next two years, and started with over 80 last year, and we all had a really good time and a whole lot of fun. The winners in the first two years had never seen a game of Australian Rules Football between them in their life, so anybody can win.
Let's try to break the 100 barrier this year - it might get me a 10th grain of sticky rice as my annual payment from Admin for Modding on the Board (even though I have never seen any of the rice I am owed) .
I just have one request - if you do not intend to post for the entire 6 month season, please do not even start - it costs me far more time and effort to try and chase up "missing" members than in does to simply count the winners of those who have posted.
We will have 5 main prizes, and they are worth winning as many of our members from previous years can attest. These are well worth the 5 minutes per week that it takes to tip.
There are prizes for the top 3 tipsters, plus two other major prizes, plus whatever members may offer occasionally as spot prizes during the season. The Wooden Spoon (last place) prize has been discontinued but is being replaced by another prize. Quite frankly it wasn't worth the hassle it caused.
First Prize: A $A150.00 Credit Voucher from
Glen Stephens, which can be used to purchase anything from
http://www.glenstephens.com/rarity.html that you wish.
Second Prize: A $A100 e-voucher for any of the 35,000+ stamp items on
fletches1 huge website -
http://stampmall.com.au - good for members globally. A fantastic prize for collectors of ANYTHING philatelic.
Third Prize: Kevin Morgan has confirmed he will again donate an annual
"Stamp News" sub within Australia - value $A89.50. (An overseas winner only needs to pay the extra post cost.) Most generous, and thanks for assisting once again Kevin!
Fourth Prize: is the 2011 Australian Year Book, unopened and containing all the stamps. This prize will be determined by a Random Number Generator at the end of the season and will be won by any tipster who posted tips in all 23 Rounds and was not in the first three places. So to possibly win this, just keep tipping regardless of where you are on the Stampboards ladder.
Fifth Prize: As outlined below this prize is for one set of Stampboards merchandise. This prize will go to the first person to reach 100 tips for the season.
And random prizes will be offered occasionally during the season - if you wish to offer something for a round, or a special reason, please post in thread, and I will set up a "special" competition for the following week.
Join in and have some fun - no skill needed, just five minutes required once a week to post who you think will win the nine matches. And you do not need to know anything about Australian Rules Football to play. Well, if you are new, you do need to know to pick Geelong without fail, and learn to hate Collingwood.
And anyone coming in late can join in for up to five weeks after the season starts, although you will be at a clear disadvantage to those who came in from the beginning.
The Footy starts on Friday, March 22, so get in on time.
Don't wait - subscribe now. No skill is required to play, so overseas members are definitely welcome. And of course, it is completely free.
The Rules:
A list of all forthcoming AFL matches will be listed each Monday (or Tuesday if there is a Monday match) during the season.
All you need to do is predict who will win each of the matches to be played over the following round.
One point will be awarded per correct selection or for a draw - draws cannot be predicted. A drawn game will be counted as a win.
If anybody predicts all winners in any given Round, two Bonus Points will be awarded to that person.
The total number of correct selections will be aggregated over the entire season and the winner(s) shall be the person(s) who picks the most winners of the 198 games over the season.
All AFL results, the progressive AFL ladder and a progressive list of where you stand on the Stampboards tipping contest will be posted weekly, usually within a day, depending on how I feel, of the round being completed.
All predictions must be posted and board time-coded by 7:30PM Australian Eastern Standard Time each Friday (if there is a Thursday match, the Thursday deadline will apply). Late entrants will receive the "away" team for any match where the deadline has passed, but their selections for later matches will be valid.
Posts may not be edited after 7:30PM on the night the round starts.
If a member does not post at all in a particular week, he or she will be awarded the away (second named) teams for that week.
Any member who does not post for three weeks running, or for five weeks in total once having joined will be considered to have withdrawn from the competition.
Members will have up until round five to join the competition. Any member joining after Round one will get an averaged aggregate total of all existing competitors as a starting score.
If there is a tie for any of the prize positions at the end of the season the winner will be chosen by a count back. So if a tie occurs at the end of Round 23, the winner will be determined by who led the competition at the end of Round 22. If still a tie then the leader at Round 21 etc....
Any member who will be away at any time during the season has the choice of being automatically given the "away" teams as their selections, or may select for all the weeks they will be away in advance. NOTE: The "away" teams are always the second named teams

http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=43712&p=3227576#p3227576This will give you all the matches to be played while you are away.
The winner will be announced the Sunday evening immediately following the completion of Round 23 on 1 September 2013.
If this is unclear in any way, please post your concerns on this thread and I will clarify anything you may have a problem with.
I discovered a long time ago that I am not perfect - not even close. But after five years auditing this competition, I am slowly getting better.

(Late prize added by Glen is below - Norm to decide how and when and why it is allocated! And can edit in how he likes!)---------------------
We have had some of the STAMPBOARDS things below made in the USA as souvenirs. Into T Shirts, caps, pens, calculators, mouse mats etc, that some members have asked if they might buy.
This prize is for
one set of these shown - value is OVER $100 on our goodies for sale thread -

(The are really superb and long wearing mouse mats - used mine for years!)

We did not make many, due to the cost of small runs in full colour,
so some neat souveniers. UK member gavin-h is shown above with a range of all of them he won in a competition at Christmas.
Stand out from the crowd at your next stamp show, or club meet!
