The damaging low pressure system is working its way up the Australian east coast after battering Victoria, knocking out power to tens of thousands and prompting residents to flee flash flooding in the Gippsland area. At least 200 homes are still at risk from rising waters.
The heaviest rain has already hit Sydney just before the afternoon peak hour, and three-metre swells are predicted to hit south facing beaches tomorrow morning. The swell is already picking up on the southern beaches.

flood watch has been issued for flooding of low lying coastal areas, particularly on Tuesday evening. Forecast districts to be affected include: South Coast, Illawarra, Sydney Metropolitan, Hunter and The Mid-North Coast.
"It's going to get quite messy along a large stretch of the NSW coast between the Victorian border to just north of Newcastle," a senior weather forecaster said.
Blizzard conditions are already lashing the Snowy Mountains while 115km/h winds have brought down trees on the NSW far south coast as a powerful low pressure system marches north towards Sydney.
Perisher recorded 79mm of rain in the 24 hours to 9am this morning, which Weather Channel meteorologist Tom Saunders said was now turning to snow as the mercury plummeted below zero.
Neighbouring Thredbo has been buffeted by 98km/h winds, while Montague Island weather station recorded wind gusts of 115km/h which has brought down trees near Bega.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for large parts of coastal New South Wales, and Queensland is also expecting gale force winds and king tides over the next 48 hours.
The weather is going to be tough on the beaches also, with both states expecting to see huge swells and coastal erosion.

Sydney did something to annoy Mother Nature.

Move the Mint stamps to the 2nd floor, leave the kiloware til last, won't hurt for that to get wet.

Stay safe and stay dry.

Parts of Victoria have had a month's rainfall in 24 hours. The system is moving east now and most of the rain has gone. However, the heaviest falls were in the ranges and that water is filling already swollen rivers. The rivers all converge on Gippsland and the flood peaks are still to come in many places.

Just to prove that every cloud has a silver lining, a lot of rain fell in Melbourne's catchments and so the dams are going to continue to fill nicely. Over 65% now and rising.

It has also been bloody cold! Didn't get above 11C at my place today!

Whilst I sincerely hope that none of you suffer serious flood, :( :(

I have to say that it was rather nice of the Australian Rugby Union Officials to arrange Scottish weather at the weekend so that our young lads would feel at home and beat the Wallabies !

(first time in 20 years !)

Oh b*gger off :!:

Unfortunately there are things happening with Australian Rugby at the moment that will see us in the doldrums for a while.

My own club (NSW Waratahs) have had a horror year with long term injuries to almost all the top players. Even with that they managed to lose by 4 points or less in 5 games this year. They now have a mindset that will take both a new coach and a massive change to player selection/position to solve (and that will take a year or two).

The only light on the horizon as far as Super Rugby is concerned is the ACT Brumbies. With their ex-Springboks South African coach (Jake White) they hired last year, they have won 8 of their 13 games and lead the Australian conference.

Now back to the topic :?

Just for a change it missed Goulburn and we had a bit of rain and high wind but no serious flooding.

The worst was a lost nights sleep due the house shaking the whole time.

Saw the images on the tele this morning, quite fast moving water isn't it!

You must be living in your wellies this time of year.

Breaking News - Hovell's Creek Lara:

About a mile from my place, a road (Rennie Street) has a dip which bottoms out not far above the Creek bed. It only takes about 15 mm of rain for the Creek to start overflowing across the Road, and over the weekend (and Monday) we had close to 40 mm, turning the usually benign creek into a raging torrent.

The SES (State Emergency Service) has gates on both sides of the Creek, and padlocks them to block the Road when flooding occurs, which happens about 6 times per year.

Come Tuesday morning about 9:00AM, this Einstein comes along, finds the gates locked and does the only thing that a potential Darwin Award winner could possibly do in these circumstances.

She broke the padlock, opened the gates and kept going, driving straight into the flooded Creek, then had to be rescued by people passing by, and had to have her car pulled out by a tow truck. I imagine the cost of this, plus the cost of getting all the mud out of her car and engine might make her a tad more careful in the future.

I really hope she has not already contributed to the gene pool, and will refrain from doing so in the future.

Norm

She was probably late for work, texting, doing her nails and eating a power brekky bar.

Shame the gate wasn't electrified to keep the cattle out. :D

I live up the hill so to speak in Traralgon. If my place flooded I would be on the Ark with Noah.

The Traralgon Creek has varying degrees of flooding every winter. This event was a little worse.

There was only about 2 inches of rain in Traralgon, but 4 inches or more in the hills behind us.

I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary; I'm in Melbourne on night shift for the week.

Norm, I think that she has made her contribution to the gene pool already. :?:
The SES rescued a couple of kids, after an emergency call.
They are a little bit peeved about the second call out to again rescue kids boating in the flood water, SAME KIDS

Amazing isn't it! We desperately need rain here for the winter crops and get none!

You guys get more than you need and plenty more for the morons to play with!

Stay safe in the flooded areas guys! Don't be silly! Take care
