Just like this designer,Teh Yew Kiang's work.

This one is a souvenir sheet on the Malaysian Bantams. The other three stamps are also rather attractive but hard to source. These sheets are still available in one of the weekend flea markets but the asking price is more than the catalogued price.

Thought others may want to show their favourite stamps on birds here too

OK guys, enough already.

I am in the Optus sin bin until Tuesday (half dial up speed).

The 90t JULY 1993 is unlisted by SG - I have told them about it.

If you believe one NSW dealer's price that block with the one Kapul is worth upwards of AUD 4,000.

Agree with Glen re the K10 bird - am in the market for one with the single Kapul in the margin, but not at T.O.'s price.

Plus of course, getting back to my fav. the MAY 1992 45t must also have been printed with one or more Kapuls in the margin.
So to for the JULY 1993 5t - this one hasn't shown up either.

Really? Then this might be my best find ever  The block was in the back of a stockbook of mint PNG I picked up in a recent auction. Any takers?

CTOs from 1966 Gambia. Got them in this form - probably philatelic and not postally used. Any comments?

Those gambia stamps crosscrescent are they on an envelope or on brown card. To not have been postally used has meant nice carefully placed frankings and no big pen cross outs . :D

Here is a nice New Zealand Bird CTO. Done on an envelope.

Hi Stamper,

That's a nice CTO. Sorry for the ignorance, I always thought that CTOs were those stamps that were nicely cancelled but with gum intact. The Gambia one is on a piece of thick brown paper. I take it that stmps on first day covers would therefore also qualify as CTOs? Thanks for any response.

Warmest regards

Hi, again, Andrew,

I think the key thing with CTO is that it is done "to order", i.e. to fulfil the requirements of collectors rather than a postal need. Whether the stamps are cancelled loose, on cover, or on a sheet of paper from an exercise book is not really relevant...

Thanks Garvin-h,

and now that you mention that, I remember seeing some stamp collectors coming with huge envelopes and pasting stamps on them to cancel. On closer observation, I noted that they were actually using the same envelope to eventually put all the stamps of the year on one big envelope. Probably unique way of CTOing (if there is such a word). Sometimes the imagination of these stamp collectors is something to marvel about. I also remember seeing an old stamp collector (at that time I was still young in the 1980s) even cancelling the back of the FDC and on the little leaflet that comes with FDC. Seemed like such a chore to do. But then again, if you like doing it, and at nobody's expense, why not.

Cheers

Kimberley,

These are really beautiful. I have the top set - used. The mint ones look really gorgeous. The other two are also classy. Must put up one of the Kakadu Wetlands stamps - have used AUS$20 stamp.

Thanks for putting up these posts.

Cheers

Kimberley,

Sorry to disappoint you. I meant the AUS$10 Kakadu Wetlands stamp. I have here a scan of 4 of them put together. Purchased them from Glen.

AH, not disappointing at all, I only have 1 not a block of 4. Anyway someone will tell me off as the 'Kakadu Stamps' I posted aren't really postal stamps.

Kimberley,

The Kakadu stamps above are not in a block - just put them together so that they don't look so lonely if you put only one - the scan was not that well done.

Not too sure about that bird. Could be a peahen. It is the souvenir sheet companion of 4 other stamsp that were issued on 2nd July 2000 - Birds of Malaysia. The catalogue price for a mint copy is RM3 - not bad considering the face value is RM2 - but they may not be available anymore. Can try to look for them at the post office but something that long ago would be unlikely to be found unsold at a Post office.

Glen's website has a write up about those Kakadu Wetlands stamps that you have put here - he put it under something to do with Ducks. Might be worth taking a look.

Also if you are up to it, his 1111111 milestone number is not too far away - less than 500 numbers the last time I took a look maybe an hour back.

Cheers

Morning Gavin-h,

It is 0748 hours on 21st May, Selamat Tidur means = Sleep well.
So now it is Selamat Pagi = Good Morning. I am learning Indonesian, so I try and test myself whenever Andrew is online, as writing is a little different to speaking a 2nd language.

I see Harry has posted some of his German Stamps on a new thread, don't suppose you could post some of yours as well?
I would like to see what other German stamps there are out there.

Kimberley

Hi Kimberley!

It's now 10:30am here, so Selamat Pagi from me (even though it's nearer to Selamat Tidur to you!!!).

I've posted a few scans of German items in various places on the board - I've got ongoing scanner problems at the moment (ie. I haven't got one!), but I'll do what I can when I can...

Anyhow, "Selamat Whatever" from me for now...

This set was issued jointly with Singapore. Did not realise it until it was too late to order the Singapore stamps. Like the art work on this one.

Hi Andrew,

Birds are a great subject for stamps - so much more interesting than whoever is the current political leader of a country etc etc.

There are some lovely images on this thread, I'll find some more to share.

Cheers

Hi Dave
Love the eagle.
I notice that it has the Olympic emblem in the design with the stamp postmarked 1993. I collect Olympic stamps of the summer games issued by the host nations only. Do you know if this was an official issue prior to the Atlanta games in 1996?

Here's a few more feathered friends from Australia

Hi Brian, I don't know, as I don't have a US catalogue (help someone!). As it's postmarked Jan 93, I'm more inclined to think it was issued before the '92 Barcelona games. It's a beauty though, and at 50mm x 35mm it really grabs the eye.

Don't know whether I'm answering the question about the American eagle but the SG says it ws issued in 1991 but thre were 5 stamps that were issued for the Olmpic Games, Barcelona (1992) by the US.

Hi Guys,

That Eagle is great - Scott 2540 - issued 7 July 1991 according to my Scott simplified. The Eagle was also featured on two other high values that year (a $9.95 and a $14 - sorry don't have them to scan  ) - all have the Olympic symbol as they were issued to coincide with the US Olympic Festival held that year - presumably for Barcelona.

Here are two more from 1985 and 1988:

This item was posted by me on the 'new issues conga line' thread and crosscrescent thought it was pertinent to this thread. So here it is again :!:

Was looking at my Australian Magpie stamps today (see avatar) and discovered that Fiji had issued an 'Exotic Birds' set in April ... and my favourite bird is included:

Technical details and descriptions of the birds can be found at:

cheers

The Australian Magpie theme continues in the next few posts.

Continuing with the Australian Magpie theme:

Not sure whether this resulted from vagrants. Does anyone know :?:

It may be from the white-backed species also found in southern Papua New Guinea.

Before I put up the two Australian stamps here is a photo which, to me, typifies this bird.

The intruder looks like a puffin
