Does anyone know if there are any stamps relating to the supernatural or paranormal?

After watching 2 hours of Ghost Hunters I became intrigued.

The American Topical Association (ATA) doesn't have a code for either supernatural or paranormal. Not even ghosts get a mention. This doesn't mean that no stamps exist for these topics.

For example, the Faroe Islands issued a miniature sheet on 27 March 2008 showing boulders believed to be occupied by supernatural beings. They even have a website dedicated to Norse mythology on stamps: http://www.tjatsi.fo/

Image

In 2004, 2006 and 2008 all the Nordic countries released miniature sheets showing Norse mythology.

You can find the 2008 sheets at: http://www.topoftheworld.nu/?sprog=&sid ... d81b244d73
and the 2006 sheets at: http://www.topoftheworld.nu/?sprog=&sid ... 23e921d302

If you want to look further you may have to look for stamps about Fables (356), Folklore (355), Mythology (570), Mysteries (632) and Vampires (581) (ATA codes in brackets).

Those poor ghosts  Not only do they have to suffer the fact that they were left behind but they don't even get to be on a stamp.

Personally I blame the "GHOST BUSTERS"

They certainly are. But at the same time they are also very beautiful.

I'm starting to creep myself out.

I agree it has a certain appeal. I think most of the black was engraved too, which I think adds to the sheet.

Had never noticed that before - and I collect modern Sweden!
Well they are very open minded in Sweden.

I think China issued 3 series of Literature on Strange Stories - Some of these are on ghosts, spirits, etc.

Part 1 - 2001-7, 4 stamps and 1 MS
Part 2 - 2002-7, 4 stamps
Part 3 - 2003-9, 6 stamps and 1 MS

I had a part-time job as a counter clerk in a postal outlet when these were issued, they sold well around Halloween time, but come November, with Xmas on the way, they become a tougher sell.

I guess Marie Dressler didn't have any descendants alive to veto the artwork here...the shape of her head is reminding me of Boris Karloff role as Frankenstein's creation. Given the expression on his face, she seems to be creeping out Dan George, and Raymond Burr is keeping his eye on her too. :D

Here are the British horror movie stamps (from the Hammer House of Horror productions).

I have always been rather fond of Christoper Lee in fangs, I just love it that he ended up on a Dracula stamp!

Brazil has more than 1 stamp about Allan Kardek and the "Espiritismo" religion. I will post some images soon.

Anyway, I consider this SS from Portugal really supernatural. Or fun. Or both:

To qualify for tax exempt status, religions in Australia have to show the Australian Taxation Office that they are an organisation of people that believe in a supernatural being.

Hence all Australian religious stamps are related to the supernatural. They are mostly issued for Christmas - a festival of the Christian supernatural religion.

On 18th October 2010 another supernatural religion issue for the Australian Catholic church is scheduled.

Here are some stamps from the Ukraine that have a supernatural theme. These are two of four from the 1923 Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic semi-postal issues. I had fun trying to ID these ones!

There have been many thousands of stamps dealing with paranormal, supernatural stuff -- most countries have issued them, most commonly around December!

Newbie so I can't post attachments, but Canada in 1990 (Unitrade catalogue # 1292a) issued Canadian folklore stamps. One was Sasquatch (Bigfoot), one was the Kraken, another was the Werewolf, and the last was the Ogopogo (sea creature). In 1991 they issued another folklore block (1337a) and that one had (1334) the Witched Canoe.

OK, I posted my first pic on the post-a-pic thread, so I may come back here in a bit and post a pic here.

I never knew they were X rated. I watched them all the time when I was a little kid. I always thought that it was odd that 'Midnight Cowboy' was rated X. There is another odd X rated too - 'Taxi Driver'
maybe? I don't know I am too lazy to look it up at the moment.

You did great on the photo!

The edit button is in the lower right next to the quote button but it goes away after an hour-ish. I was just looking for it too since I chopped up my last post putting one sentence into two lines in this thread. Happens to me a lot posting via iPhone for some reason. But I guess it's been over an hour. :?

Legends of the supernational abound.
The New Zealand maori rely on the supernatural to explain the creation of the world,
& the history of their forebears.
Despite lacking a written record, these tales were handed down by word of mouth
over numerous generations.

Since Australia does not seem to have been included on this thread so far, I give you:

1. Bunyips

Image

2. Picnic at Hanging Rock:

Synopsis of the great book and almost great Movie: "Three students and a school teacher disappear on an excursion to Hanging Rock, in Victoria, on Valentine's Day, 1900. The movie follows those that disappeared, and those that stayed behind, but it delights in the asking of questions, not the answering of them."

Is that a naked Ghost Woman sitting backwards on a Ghost Goat? Not very artistic in my opinion, wonder how that got passed the QA to the printers.

I'd like to get my hands on a copy of that stamp, sentimental reasons. I won the book in my final year for consistent effort to achieve academic excellence.
Wonderful eerie story... still a mystery today if I'm not mistaken.

Well, as far as the mystery goes, the story is a complete fiction. No mystery, just a novelist at her best.

It's good that old traditions are still being kept alive. :D

I have to agree. Of all the Cryptozoology myths I have come across, Nessie is still my favourite. Far more interesting than Bigfoot. and living T-Rex in Australia. If only it was true..

But issued by The Maldives ???
