Interested in seeing some GB Commercial Covers with the option of maybe buying them.

I'm not a big spender - A$1.00 to maybe A$5.00 per cover or thereabouts.

Genuine usage-type - not philatelic.

Visually appealing.

Can anyone drop some images here please?

Commercially used GB covers with stamps on, that will be a novelty, all the post office want to use these days is labels.

Even less chance if you want some recent commemorative stamps, most of them especially the higher values never see commercial use other than on a one off parcel and even then it is generally only parcels sent by stamp dealers.

The post office in the UK only produce for collectors of mint stamps at present, they don't want them to be used, god forbid.

I don't personally receive much post. probably 10 or so items a week but I cannot remember the last time I received anything with a genuine stamp on, maybe 1 a month if I'm lucky.

Good luck with your search.

I tried to start a similar collection a few months ago of recent commems on cover but had to resort to sending them through the post to myself, so my collection ended up with a lot of contrived covers which wasn't very satisfactory.

I have now moved on to collecting small definitive stamps from Europe / CW and asia, at least these are generally produced for the right reasons, not just for the collectors market, and see some genuine usage.

And as I have found researching the market over the last few months there are over a hundred interesting sets to choose from and that is just scratching the surface.

I'm lucky, I have well trained family in Australia who have always opened my covers neatly and kept them for me. So, that's Xmas and birthday cards for each member and various other bits and bobs over many years. So, high values commemoratives and various minsheets and panes used over years...

Looks like they might be scarce. Most of what I get from Pomgolia has mailing labels.

At the moment I have just 3 ordinary covers from recent ebay purchases. 2 are DL size, and the other is the front of a C5 cover. Too ordinary to post images here, but if you send me your mailing address you are welcome to them. Decide what to do with them after you get them.

I will add you to my mailing list and set any new ones aside for you.

Hi,

I've got a few from Pommieland - I've got some business partners over there so I get some interesting ones. Will post some soon.

I can't transfer, but if you open another tab for the other thread, you can copy the images from one thread to another, no harm in having them in both places, leaving this one for discussion of your Want To Buys.

Click on the 'quote' button down there at bottom right, in your messsage :!: , copy the text from there, and paste it into the other thread which you have open in another tab or window.
Then click the back button on the first tab, and do the same with subsequent messages.

OR: to post them all in one, open a message in the other thread, right click on the images in this thread, select 'copy image location' and paste it into the new thread, between the IMG tags. (Click on img button at head of message composition box)

These are used around 30 years after issue date.

Surely you are not regarding that as a 'commercial' cover?

And yes Ian has a good point .. please add them to the other thread too .. it all helps new folks who stumble across the topic!

I think the key to collecting these, as with the Australian and American, is "in-period". Using 1998 stamps in 2003/6 doesn't count and the ideal would be 6 months, I would think.

If a stamp was issued with a face value which wasn't repeated for a while, then "until the next one came along" :) It's difficult, especially with the NVIs, but the ideal would be something used closer to its issue date, rather than when available as discount postage from dealers.

Are you looking for only modern ones of the last few years ? I have a few from the 1940's and 1950's that are inexpensive and commercial.

Well I think it differs from country to country. As an example in BiH most of stamps on covers are from the previous few years due to number of reasons and most important one being probably lots of stamps from past years and no new stamps available. It is Impossible to receive letter with stamps from 2011 here although most of them are available online (ebay) but not available at any post office (including main office in Sarajevo). It is really common practice to use stamps 5-6 and often more years old. And this is real use, legitimate use from post office employers.

Hey there,
I've got GB commercial covers coming out of my ears after an auction purchase so you'll have to be more specific! What eras do you prefer? Any preference for issues, themes, size etc. Just a few more details would be helpful so I can sort out a selection to scan that you'll like.

Thank you AFCBGeorge.

I have not narrowed down my preferences to specifics but:-

- Commemoratives of the last 30 or 40 or so years
- Not overly keen on Machins
- Maybe some definitives of the 1940's to 1960's
- Older than the 1940's but this might be getting too expensive for my tastes/pocket
- Budget prices

That's all I need, and no problem about the price. I'll dig some out tomorrow and post a scan sometime later in the weekend for you.

Hello!
Apologies for the delay with these, digging them out proved a lot of fun & I got quite distracted at the weekend! If they don't fit the bill I can scan more. I've checked the catalogue & eliminated all the philatelic ones, so all are used 'in period' to pay the correct rate no first day cancels or anything. They range from pretty early to one that dropped onto my doormat yesterday.

Price wise, I'm not going to list them all individually, as some are obviously better than others, and I'd rather sell at least a few at once. Very generally speaking, (there's a lot of covers below!) make me an offer that averages 75p-£1 a cover & we'll be in business. Nothing too pricey in there but I've tried to pick an attractive selection. I hope you find something that interests you.

Thanks AFCBGeorge

Nice covers.

Probably at twice what I'd prefer to pay.

As mentioned, I'm at the cheap end.

Do you have 200 at A$0.50?

Thanks

Sorry to hear that they're too expensive Bazza. I collect these myself and really wish I could source them for my collection at $25c a cover! As a general average I pay 40-75p for these over here in Holland, even at auction, so I'm afraid I can't really do anything like that volume for 25c without sending you some seriously scrappy rubbish!

Uhum, these, that are for sale, surely aren't philatelic.
