Super Rugby 2011 tipping competition

Im floating the board for interest in participation (and prizes) for conducting a Super Rugby tipping competition for 2011.

I am willing to coordinate this and not put any pressure on our champion of the AFL tipping competition.

Couple of things to note:

1. Super Rugby is contested by sides from NZ, Australia, and South Africa
2. The Super Rugby season will overlap the AFL season

The season starts on the 18th February, so please register your interest in this forum quickly so it can be established if the compettion has numbers

I was going to make rude comments about the 'other' teams but today I hear that our captain is out for the first couple of games and the Aussie captain out for even more. That leaves us with one loose forward. :roll:

No such thing as special high impact plastic, kevlar, etc. in my day...it was leather or nothing (like the ball) :!:

He did work experience with them last year and he's only just starting there as a junior filming the Waratah's home games from next Friday night (trial game against Fiji), so it might be a bit early to ask for stuff :idea:

Perhaps towards the end of the season it may be a possibility.

A number of player contracts are up for review in the various clubs so it's that time of the year for "if's, but's and maybe's" to drive up potential new contracts (and I never said that :wink:

Interesting question. My understanding is the surface will be OK very soon but it will be months before the dressing rooms and other vital infrastructure will be repaired.

I am not sure if Ballymore was flooded or not but it should not be a problem for Super 14 games to be played there. The last I saw was that the area was being sandbagged. There is W-League semi being played there this weekend so it seems to be only a case of which Brisbane venue.

As an AFL fan I have very limited knowledge about Union, but as has been shown in the AFL tipping comp that doesn't necessarily mean anything, so I would be willing to join in this competition if it gets up and running.

NZ is 2 hours ahead of Sydney, 3 hours ahead of Brisbane and 5 hours ahead of Perth.

The Rules (after Norm):

A list of all forthcoming Super 15 matches will be listed each Monday (or Tuesday if there is a Monday match) during the season.

All you need to do is predict who will win each of the matches to be played over the following weekend.

One point will be awarded per correct selection. No points will be awarded for any drawn matches (unless somebody actually predicts a draw of course which is common).

The total number of correct selections will be aggregated over the entire season and the winner(s) shall be the person(s) who picks the most winners over the season.

All results, the progressive ladder and a progressive list of where you stand on the Stampboards tipping contest will be posted weekly.

All tips/guesses/predictions must be posted by midday Australian Western Standard Time each Friday (if there is a Thursday match, the Thursday deadline will apply). AWST because Perth is closer to South Africa.

Posts may only be edited before the midday cutoff time on Friday.

If a member does not post in a particular week, or misses the deadine above, he or she will be awarded the lowest placed team for each game at the start of the round in accordance to the Super 15 ladder at the beginning of that round.

Any member who does not post for three weeks running, or for six weeks in total once having joined will be considered to have withdrawn from the competition.

Any member within four points of winning the "last place champion" prize MUST make selections in the final round or will be automatically disqualified from winning this prize.

Members will have up until 30th March to join the competition. Any member joining after Round one will get an averaged aggregate total of all existing competitors as a starting score.

If there is a tie for any of the prize positions at the end of the season the winner will be chosen by a countback. So if a tie occurs at the end of the season, the winner will be determined by who led the competition at the end of the round before, and so on.

Any member who will be away during the season has the choice of being automatically given the "lowest" teams as their selections, or may select for all the weeks they will be away in advance. Go here:

The winner will be announced the Sunday evening immediately following the completion of the regular season on 18th June.

If the game had been in NZ I'd have backed the Chiefs.

Good chance that it will as the Chiefs always start well. Hopefully home ground advantage..

Just to clarify the Rule

The ladder will be reviewed after each round, and I will endeavour to post whose these will be for each round. This week though, no ladder exists so non tippers will just get the average score
