This is our 18 year old cat who decided to take a nap on our boxes of stamp envelopes. He still causes uproar even in his old age.

This is him just waking up.

He should be - he has the life of Reilly. Does nothing but eat and sleep all day, strolls in and out of the house as he feels and generally lazes about. He's not done much different than that since the first day I brought him home in 1992 from the veterinary clinic I used to work in.

He was about 6mths old at the time and was found wandering as a stray by the RSPCA and needing treatment. After a couple of weeks in the clinic I hadn't the heart to let him go to a cattery for rehoming so pursuaded my other half to keep him (along with the other 2 we already had and the dog).

We brought him with us to Cyprus when we moved here almost 7yrs ago. He's getting a bit skinny and bony now but can still jump up on the worktops to tell us he wants something to eat and has gone very vocal this last couple of years.

We almost lost him in the first month we came here. He went into liver failure for no apparent reason and was very jaundiced. He was having 3 injections everyday at the local vets and we had to syringe feed him with blended chicken and fluids every 3hrs for about 2 months until he started to eat by himself again.

Our Bartholomew is a bit of a character! He bashes both dogs on the nose every so often to show them who's the boss....

If the subject of this thread was "Cats on Stamps" I could totally get away with this! As it is, I am going to try to squeak it by based on uncadonego's opinion. :wink:

This is Smokey, who is 15 or so. He was abandoned and I saved him from being put down about 6 months ago. He was mean as a snake, spit like a camel, and charged like a bull (with claws). Now he follows me around like a lovestruck puppy. He is very jealous of all things stamp-related, and is having a sit-in to protest. I hope he lives forever!

Thank you uncadonego. It was a lot of work, but I am rewarded daily with unabashed affection.

Tony, he's so little! (Smokey weighs over 16 lbs. or >7.27 kilos) Is he still a kitten? He sure is cute. Nice that he can go outside. I just lost one to coyotes which is why they now have a 'catio'.

(Amend all pronouns to feminine if appropriate).

But she is just 2, and on the small side.

No coyotes in inner Melbourne, praise be, but there are snakes, and she shows an unhealthy interest in all long, thin things. Her favourite toy is two old shoelaces tied together. She also enjoys playing with snake beans. I think there must be a mongoose somewhere in her family tree.

Uncadonego, you are very perceptive. Linus is very athletic indeed. He can and does leap very high and far. He can be quite fierce with the other cats and the vets...but with me he is the sweetest cat.

The skiddiest cats sneaking on the back porch to steal cat food will eventually become a cat that will love you. Give them their space, let them come when the want, only get as close as they are comfortable with, let them go when they want to go. The second you think you can rush the process, you'll set it back. Eventually, a wild cat is on your leg on the back step letting you pet it and purring away. Some people really hate cats, but in my opinion, those people are usually people that want more submission than a cat will ever give. Live and let live, and cats will be cool with you.
