For sale -- Stamps+Art, $4.00 per country

This week I bought some portfolios that incorporate both stamps and artwork, each portfolio from a different country member of the United Nations - over a hundred different.

Each portfolio consists of 4 oversize pages (7 sides) of content. All have the same basic format; the first page contains a first day cover of an older U.N. "flag" stamp, with the cachet being a painting from an artist of that country (see scan). The rest of page 1, and all of pages 2 and 3 are devoted to a description of that country, a map, demographics, social and cultural data, photographs, etc. The designers did a BEAUTIFUL job, they are superb. I have used Norway as a sample (see 7 scans below).

Page 4 is on heavy paper, one side only, with a larger version of the original artwork, plus a single flag stamp cancelled on the first day of issue (see scan). The print "could" thus be trimmed and is very suitable for framing. Note, some of the scans have color dots/bars on them, that's from my scanner, not on the portfolio pages (the print quality is terrific).

To summarize, each country has 4 pages (7 sides) of content, including a pristine first day cover and a single used stamp.

These would also make terrific gifts for youngsters too (just don't let them copy it verbatim for a school report).

==========
Price, U.S. $4.00 PER COUNTRY + postage. Foreign buyers PayPalâ„¢ or US currency. US buyers PayPalâ„¢, check, money order, or cash. Email me, I will send you my private PayPal account name (it is not screenwriter77).

Postage is a bit of a problem, as these large pages require a LARGE heavy-cardboard mailer. Postage for the first portfolio is $5, with $2 for each additional portfolio; that's what it costs me.

I will of course use many nice stamps on the package, just like Glen does. But the PRINT itself is surely worth more than I'm asking.

What countries??? Virtually every member of the United Nations. First-come, first-served, as I have only one of each country.

Deal with complete confidence -- I have perfect 100% positive 1651+ Feedback on eBay, user ID screenwriter77.

Please note, as per StampBoard rules, the item above is NOT offered on eBay or Delcampe. It's offered to StampBoard members exclusively for ten days.

==========

Note - if you don't see all 7 scans, reload...

Since Roly & Sherro have both taken my first choices (NZ & PNG) :? , I better take the good old USA for my better half and Switzerland. Both countries being the big choices for anything to do with the UN.

I'll send you an email Doug.

In the first message, I posted one complete Portfolio (Norway) as a sample. It takes a l-o-n-g time to scan 7 pages, get them into Photobucket, write my ad, and get the scans lined up properly. It simply isn't feasible to put up more samples, especially since I get only $4 out of the proceeds (what's my time worth?) and the rest expended as postage.

So I am saying that they are all quite similar to Norway, but with differing stamps and artwork. The first wave of buyers should have something good to say about them, in about a week, and that should spur sales too.

But thanks for thinking of me. :o

Thanks for posting these details, I would like three, first choices are:

Barbados
Denmark
Iceland

If any of these are gone I can find another from the list. They will add to my country collection but cannot afford too many.

I will email you.

G'day Doug,

Thanks for putting this one up.

Looks interesting! I'd like to take Samoa, if still available, and will email you and pay using PayPal - maybe you can just send me a PP invoice?

Cheers, Kev.

Londonbus, did you know the study of flags is called vexillology?

You already got my email, but we need to make sure the parcel will fit in your mailbox - it will be a rigid 12x14 inch mailer, if it doesn't fit, will it be safe from the weather and from theft?

Here is a great "flag" website: www.crwflags.com everything you could POSSIBLY want to know.

Hi Doug,

I think the money arrived OK this time !!
In answer to your queries/questions:

Yes to the first. I have even made the acquaintance of a few who study and work with Flags !
The website you mention is excellent. I am a member of a Flag Stamp group and am often in contact with fellow enthusiasts.A friend I 'met' on the net is busy with his FlagsonStamps website cataloguing all the Flag Stamps issued with images. We met last year at a NPS [UK] society meeting.
Lately I have been busy scouring the net for Flags on Cinderellas, tying together my two main collecting interests.

Our mail here in our village arrives at our central office and then is taken to individual mailboxes by one of our community.
The lady who sorts the mail will leave a note in the mailbox saying there is something large to collect from the office.
So no problem with damage,Weather or theft. [In any case, the mailboxes are inside a building]

Guess that's all.
Looking forward to my Flags ! :D

Londonbus1.......Not a Vexillologist !

Doug,

They arrived last Thursday but with the Canberra Show I haven't had a chance to thank you for both the Australia and USA items.

Both are fantastic - a proof, an FDC and story to go with them - who could ask for more :!:

5 free items to the next person ordering 2 or more Portfolios--

Only one group of freebies available, consisting of the following:

1. Small-format Papua & New Guinea booklet of about 20 pages illustrating (in sepia-tone) and fully describing the 1964-65 "bird" issue. I would "guess" this is a scarce item.

2. Printed [Crown Agents] illustrated notice of the 1966 Tristan da Cunha "Garrison" issue, 3d, 6d, 1/6, and 2/6 values.

3. Printed [Crown Agents] illustrated notice of the 1967 Hong Kong SEACOM issue.

4. Glossy illustrated brochure of the 1989 United Arab Emirates "80 Years of Postal Services," issue, in English and Arabic.

5. Illustrated fold-out brochure of GB's 1968 "British Paintings" issue.

All five of these stamp announcements are in real nice shape. FREE to the next person (posting to this thread) who buys two or more Portfolios.

I thought of another freebie. For the person buying the three Zed's, namely Zambia, Zaire, and Zimbabwe, I will throw in a packet of my 47 different MUH Ryukyus free of charge (regularly US $8.00).

Your total for the 3 Zed's will be US $21., somewhat less for US or Canadian buyers, due to lower postage. You can see the exact Ryukyus in my post of Sunday March 16 in the "selling" thread.

Buyers of my Portfolios get a pretty good selection of franking. These 4 parcels are ready to go out:
Image

But here's the rest of the story. The majority of these stamps came off the "brick" I bought from Glen 3 years ago:

Image

With their own gum long since headed for the river, the survivors of the BRICK are stuck down with white "school" glue, which is harmless to stamps and easy to soak off in warm water. Change the water within one minute (maybe change twice) so that the stamps are not stained brownish from the cardboard.

Long journey! US -> Australia -> US -> Australia

OMG .. "The Brick"! 8) 8)

I've known doug222usa a very long time - indeed he is member number ONE here apart from me!

A few years back I found I had a brick - or may be even several bricks, of stuck together USA mint stamp blocks and plate blocks in an estate I bought. Humidity had got to them

There was no way whatever to even roughly guess at face value, as these things were literally glued together tightly in a BRICK or bricks.

It was MUCH worse than it shows on the photo as all the stuff in the middle you coud see now even the edges of, therefore colud not even guess at face value.

So I offered it to Doug for the first half sensible figure that came into my head. I assured him if he took the time to soak them, I was sure he'd come out ahead, and that these otherwise ruined blocks would one day be neatly cancelled and find a good home in an album somewhere for collectors of the future.

Great to see they are being put to good use, and many stampboarders are now the recipients of these postally used blocks and plate blocks etc!

Anything Doug sends me gets nice cancels - the lowest photo on the list below is a packet he sent me last month I am selling along with various other USA frankings on mail to me:

http://stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?t=5057

So I am sure the folks ordering these portfolio packs will be delighted with their franking, as Doug always prides himself on the care he takes with franking, and the cancels, and the secure packaging. 8)

Collectors like Doug taking care to use real stamps are a passionate crusade of mine, and my next April "Stamp News" column pushes that point VERY strongly -

http://www.glenstephens.com/snapril08.html

I urge all members to read that piece and PLEASE take heed of it!

We all owe it to the NEXT generation of collectors to use real commemorative STAMPS, and not meter labels and worthless high value definitives.

A Queensland member of these boards ordered a set of the superb new "Comprehensive Catalogue" off me being mailed today.

http://stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?p=184261#184261

Now post to him is $12, so rather than use a near useless $10 and $2 Defin -- I franked his parcel like this:

Image

Bottom line .. a few days in a 'Desert Magic' drying book and he will have $20 worth of flat and superb used multiples and mini sheets and gutter pairs, as I cancelled them lightly.

i.e. he got FREE POSTAGE on 2 heavy books Registered across the country! And all quite legal. 8)

Stamps is a world of stories and personalities, and this little "BRICK" anecdote hopefully just added a tiny bit to that rich heritage!

Glen

Could be one of those four is for me!!

I am using the portfolios to head up some of the countries that I collect and the ones I have received are already in place. As I dont collect USA I have scanned the stamps on the package I have received and it will be in my next eBay batch, so it will be interesting to see what happens, they were all beautifully postmarked, nice circular stamps.

Thanks for the Samoa pages Doug - mine was hand delivered to my bride of many years and the man remarked on "the nice lot of well cancelled stamps on it."

Cheers, Kev.

Yes, Togo is available!

As well as the three Zed's (Zaire, Zambia, and Zimbabwe), and numerous other Africa!

Today I bought some little German and Austrian banknotes of the 1920s, commonly called Notgeld. I know nothing about them, and I do not think they appear in any comprehensive catalog. In any case, I will give these 6 bills to the next buyer of 3 Portfolios.

Note, the Germany and DDR Portfolios are currently available, but the Austria has been taken.

Five are crisp uncirculated, the bill in the lower right corner has significant faults.

If someone buys Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam, I will throw in two old UN first day covers sent directly to Laos, properly backstamped in Vientiane, and "real" postally used covers. In my opinion, they are worth about $3 each. Free with the purchase of the three Portfolios.

If you want to see them before you decide, email me for scans.

Doug, mine arrived this morning. Very attractive things. Unfortunately, despite your excellent packaging (as usual 8) ) they have a bit of a wavy complexion courtesy of the PO at the moment. A few days under a pile of books will fix that though.

Really nice things, thanks again.

Hard to believe they found a way to bend those parcels. Is it permanent damage or just wavy? Too bad there's no means of putting a foldover crease on adjacent sides, that would be almost foolproof...

Just wavy Doug. The package was in a very slight "S" shape, so it probably got stuck at the bottom of a mailbag or something. The waves are temporary I'm sure, and will flatten out in a few days. I'll let you know. 8)

Doug,

Your package arrived today. As usual, high quality stamps on the outside and even better on the inside :!:

The United Nations and Fiji issues are great and the Crown Agent's freebies superb.

The PNG birds issue info. will probably end up in a certain young stampboarders bird stamp exhibition

Strange, your reply did not generate an email (to me) announcing a new posting to this thread. But Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia are yours, along with the two Laos FDCs.

Email me privately if you need my PayPal account name.

Add US $4 if you want the Italy flag card I scanned for you earlier today. Your total would then be US $25. Thanks again.
