Hi to you all,
I have an interesting one here albeit a grotty one to boot .
The right hand border is almost missing, unusual in the roo printing I think , but looking at the rear (yuk) is a very visible thin , also it appears to have a line in the paper.
Do you think this line may have caused the frame flaw or is it paper pushed across from the thin, if you get my drift.
Even the perfs don't look right on that side as well, possibly a minor paper fold ???? .

Thanks you in anticipation of your answers

Fond Regards

I think this thread is for kangaroo and map stamps. Your 'roo probably needs to go here: http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=11803

Well, he was a second hand/collectables dealer and had some post cards so I extended the definition just a tad.

The post office there only opens for a couple of hours a couple of days of the week. It is actually a Community Postal Agent.

I've been here 18 months. I know they have an annual Nut Festival at Wandiligong ... but didn't know about a postcard seller feller.

The Old Tobacco Shed Museum, on the Porepunkah side of Bright also has a small assortment of kiloware, and a few hundred old postcards (but all of the kangaroos have already come home with me).

Unfortunately not. It finishes at 9.30 a.m. edst tomorrow.

It currently has no bids at 99c, but I suspect it will sell for a reasonable price.

Only just seen this reply, sorry. Title of thread says "Scans of interesting or unusual *KANGAROO* stamps or covers!" I can't move it now anyway.

Not my area; looks thinned on the back, front is odd; maybe worn/damaged in soaking?

I love a good variety but they are few and far between on 1st watermark high values.

Here we have the left stamp with the very rare "dogleg" flaw and the right stamp has the scratch south of Perth variety. :D

Bought a couple of covers yesterday with Roo's on them and after scanning the first one, I spotted what seems like a bite out of the Roo's tail, is this one a noted flaw on the 2/- or Just wishful thinking on my part ? I don't have the ACSC for Roo's Just the George V.

Sorry, I should have been more explicit. Counter isn't on teh cancel (never was). I meant that the canceller was used on the MO & SB counter at the post office concerned.

No, it just happened to be that canceller that was used. Perfectly normal usage.

The frame break between S and T is a charecteristic of the Die IIB, All stamps in the block have it, it's just that some have been inked over (also perfectly normal).

Nice scratch though.

Guess where all printing equipment and parts came from in that era.

The paper quality was also very variable in those days. Combine poorer quality paper with wearing perforators (as Glenn alludes, the equipment primarily came from Germany) and you get some pretty poor perforations. For some reason, the 5/- and 10/- seem to be the most affected values?

Hi!

I just got an older lot of some roos and I found this beauty! Now I know what is really meant with "outer frame break" at the substituted cliche of the 6d blue roo. I didn`t expect it so heavy broken. This one is a third wmk example (and here I`m quite sure it IS the variety). I think, although it has the corner perf bend, it is a quite nice example. Am I right with my expectations? I also found this vertical pair of 9d second wmk with the constant variety below A of Postage.

As per the title of this thread, I just had to include it here. Done by SB's chief designer and GOMC(D). It includes a personalized Kangaroo stamp and a unique kangaroo drawing reminiscent of the WW1 covers.

3d have unusually bad "fluffy" perfs too, most of the time.

Josto the crack got larger as the print run grew longer.

The recently discovered 6d "OS" example 1st wmk I have (possibly unique in Die 2B) shows the early stage.

Below is the earlier stage on 3rd in monogram.

josto -- you need to have this outer break/wedge for Die 2A.

I had Arthur Gray over here yesterday, and showed him this used 6d alongside his mint 6d monogram block (which of course MUST be correct) and he agreed they were the same.

Rounded top right corner appears not to be a requirement!

What do you make of this one? The big question is: Is it a CTO or a per favour/faked cancel?

Listed as Kangaroo 10/- stamp 1st watermark SPECIMEN + cto no gum

Asking price $425

I have a sneaking suspicion this stamp may have been discussed before.

What do you make of this one? The big question is: Is it a CTO or a per favour/faked cancel?

Listed as Kangaroo 10/- stamp 1st watermark SPECIMEN + cto no gum

In this case a probable faked cancellation. I have a £2 CofA Specimen that has a definite CTO cancel as well. On that the CTO cancel is correct for the period. The one on the 10/- isn't.

This is the infamous fake "Vic Aust" a large Melbourne dealer has vandalised 100s of stamps with.

Not in the league of many others, but this miss perf has to be on the borderline of collectable. Do our experts consider it collectable? Is it possible it is from the top of the sheet?

Considering the extent of the miss perf at the bottom, I thought there should be more of the next stamp above if it was from anywhere else.

Paul, it is a good example of poorly perfed stamps that were used for Official purposes, so could be useful for an exhibit for that purpose. However, I wouldn't consider it otherwise collectible, just a very poorly perfed stamp that also has damage to the upper perfs.

I had put this 1d Roo on the SOTN thread, and it was brought to my attention that the cancel has "Special" on it. Could someone tell me what this means? To bad about the perfs.

Hi all,

Re the post/scan below

I will add this and see if we get a reply ,

It certainly looks a bit different and I`m sure some one MAY comment.

C . P .

I have a similar roo to C.P's could this also be a variant to the AustBalia flaw. Also what would be a ballpark estimate for this flaw on cover and how do you work the figure out??

Just look at the listing of other minor varieties in ACSC and apply a similar value, is my suggestion.
