Hi MargoZ,

Sorry to hear about your roof. Hope you can get it solved. Didn't know the weather has changed so much for Sydney. That's rather terrible news as per your link. Hope the weather gets more friendly soon.

We had a few local floodings after 2 hours of rain in Johore (the southern state) and Kuala Lumpur one to two days back. However, We're having nice sunny weather this morning and the humidity has eased up a fair bit.

Hi, Margo,

The flooding in Oz has even made the news in England - so it must be pretty bad...

Hope the damage to your roof isn't too serious - and that the weather improves for you soon.

I believe some of the wine-producing areas such as Hunter Valley have taken a bit of a pounding too?

Take care!

Gavin

Looks like only minor damage-now its stopped raining a bit climbed up and had a look this morning.

Hope other Sydneysiders on the board have fared OK but VERY concerned about the Hunter Valley

Cheers

Hi MargoZ,

The fact you can still do posts means your computer is still in working order. Leaking roofs can be rather unnerving. We are having another nice sunny morning and not too humid. Hope the weather in Sydney is friendly for you today.

Cheers
Andrew

We've had two warm (25C) and humid days over here, then during last night there was a big storm with quite a bit of thunder & lightning.

Today's been a degree or so cooler, but it feels a bit sticky again. Expecting more rain later in the week.

Kuala Lumpur was hit by very bad flash floods. Some car parks were flooded after a two hour shower in the heart of town. One church had their furniture and stuff destroyed and many busineses saw their businesses washed away. Did not realise that it can be this bad.

Klang seems rather safe so far and so is Shah Alam where I work. If you draw a line from NE to SW, KL would be at the NE and Port Klang at the SW, Klang is on that diagonal line nearer to Port Klang. If you go the other way from Klang to the NE, you go through Shah Alam, then Petaling Jaya/Subang and then Kuala Lumpur. Hope the directions are not too confusing.

Hi Andrew

Sorry to hear that it's flooding over your way.
Anyway was wondering if you wanted to purchase a rain guage?
'Brand New' never been used, current location in our backyard

Would need a good pump to pump all that water to where it is needed most. Today's news has the Prime Minister making known his displeasure at what should have been done. Also related to some storm-control (..not flash flood control) tunnel that is almost complete.

A few traders actually saw their stalls washed away in waist-deep water and a textile merchant had to sell everything at 60% off. The underground car park at the Merdeka stadium has become a watery grave for many cars....one reason why I prefer to take the commuter train to Kuala Lumpur from Klang if I can avoid having to use the car.

Thanks for the concern.

Cheers
Andrew

p.s. No, I don't need the rain gauge...thanks.

Absolutely bucketing down here. We've got a "Severe Weather Warning" for 2-3 inches of rain in North West England and Northern Ireland in the next 24 hours...

...still, it's good for the gardens

Wasn't as bad as they'd said - clearly another case of the Met Office covering their backsides...

...rainy this morning but brightening up now. Still breezy, but hoping for a reasonable weekend.

Mornings are kind of sunny and cool. Showers in the afternoons. Quiet at night. Hoping for a nice day tomorrow to go visit Steven Tan at his stamp and coin shop at Pertama Complex in Kuala Lumpur and maybe try to post myself some envelopes with nonsense inside, and with insufficient postage, to see what the posties will do.

Cheers
Andrew

Hi Garvin,

Been drizzling off and on almost the whole day. Managed to make that train trip to town to Mr. Tan's shop and the section of the complex his shop is located actually had a powe failure since 8.30 last night (Friday night).

Anyway still managed (by emergency lighting) to get some postage dues (mint) and a 1,000 German Marks note (believe it was issued 1910.

Here are scans of it:

Don't think I paid too much for it. Do you know its fair value?

Cheers

Hi, Andrew,

From what I can see that looks like a nice note in very good condition. 8)

I don't know much about notes, so you might be better putting that one in the Numismatic Corner as well, so the experts can have a look at it there.

Drizzled here this morning but the sun has come out now.

Slightly warm, will need to sleep with the airconditioning on. It is 12.31 am right now and time to be in bed. Good night. Sleep tight and if the bugs turn up, just bite them. :) :) :)

That sounds serious. Hope no serious damage done by the time the cyclone passes by. Weather here is just nice and cool for the tropics.

massive electrical storms last night lasted 3 to 4 hours and truly spectacular - happened to be at a friends and watched it come in over the English channel to Dover whereupon I stayed put to avoid a drenching getting home!

I read and interesting article in either News Week or Time Magazine recently which stated words to the effect that "Global Warming can mean either an imbalance in extreme heat or cold over an unspecified or indeterminate period of time" -
If that makes sense to you or anyone else please explain ?

Those of us who were at school in the 70s were all taught that there was another Ice Age on the way, because all the pollution we chucked into the atmosphere would prevent the sun from warming the Earth's surface...

They just tell you what they want you to hear (or, more importantly, what they want to tax you on)

I could tank on at great length about "climate change", but will try to resist the temptation

...tried to resist the temptation for several seconds, but failed miserably.

"Climate Change" is an everpresent phenomenon.

"Global Warming" is a media-created phrase designed to create alarm.

Over the past 100,000 years, there have been at least 4 major Ice Ages. More correctly, there has been One Ice Age with 4 ice advances and 4 inter-glacial periods when the ice retreated.

That suggests that periods of warming and periods of cooling are fairly common and normal.

Now bearing that in mind, has the Ice Age finished, or are we living in a further inter-glacial?

Another question? Why is Greenland called Greenland?

Answer: Because 1,000 years ago when the Vikings found it, it was green (if it's been covered in snow, they'd've called it "Whiteland" 'cos Vikings are like that...). So that implies that its colder now than it was 1000 years ago...
