Glen,

The "Van Diemen" one is a German Local Post - these sprung up in large numbers in the late 1800s (presumably as a result of some sort of de-regulation ofhte postal services) before dying out. They are quite a specialised area and Michel do produce a catalogue of them, but unfortunately I don't have a copy...

The others are as you rightly say exhibition labels (sometimes known as "Poster Stamps").

Don't know if anyone has a full listing of these, but they're the sort of thing that turns up in dealers oddments books for a Dollar or two a throw...

There are hundreds of these on Delcampe, and some bring VERY fancy prices. Once upon a time, they were routinely a buck apiece, but not today.

If time permits, type a keyword or two (from each of your labels) into Delcampe Search.

I did discover this:

Hamburg [Brief-, Packet & Güter-Expedition Charles van Diemen] (1864?)

http://home.cc.umanitoba.ca/~wyatt/stamp-list.html

So that 1864 date appears to be older than I would have thought.

What on earth was a "Güter-Expedition"

I have the Michel catalogue (privatpostmarken) from 1999. That one lists at Dm20.00 used.

Thanks Mike .. and welcome ricolo! I'll give this to you as your avatar for the time being - for your help. :D

Hope the price has doubled in the past decade! I'll offer them for $A40 to anyone who collects locals, in a future list.

It is an interesting cancel.

Looks like an outer circle, and then someone inked in their initials within that it looks like?

Glen,

Those initials are "Ch D", presumably the same "Charles van Diemen" on the stamp 8)

Here is my copy of the 1897 Exposition Stockholm Cinderalla stamp, I thought I would post it here to compare the two.

Glen's copy has some colour-shifting to the left in the green-blue sky, while mine has some color shifting to the right in the red. Lots of over inking in both copies as well, must have been hard to get this one right!

I am fairly certain that I have a copy of the feature stamp of this thread as well, once I remember which "safe place" I have filed it in I will post it here.

Have a Good One :)

Showed these off at the GOMC meeting, and our resident authority took one look at the Van Diemen and pronounced it to be a replica of the original.
Apparantly Van Diemen copied the original, and then to avert claim of fraud, had his name overprinted.
There should thus be no used versions of these.
He also like the Stockholm label. :D
Regards

Here the excerpt from Michel (2006) regarding the van Diemen issue.

The originals also should have rough perfs rather than imperf.
