The cinderellas below are sometimes known as Small UPU semi-officials. The group shown is offered on ebay as a full set, but I already have an additional value, the 1 Rupiah green.

Image

The seller is no help. Does anyone know exactly how many items are in the complete set of these, and the denominations please?

Just this set ... I have the other Maluku Selatan sets under control (I think).

As per Scott Catalogue(1982),Republic of South Molukkas*
the stamps were issued privately and had no postal use.
The stamps are not recognised as postage stamps.
No details available of denominations issued.

Thanks adivaragan, that's why this is in the cinderella forum.

They are still collectable as cinderellas.

A stampboards member found a website with the other sets listed for me ... just this set is missing from the list.

I have the 'set' of these, the 4 you illustrate plus the 1 R deep green, same picture. I have them noted as the first issue in 1950, but think that came from the packet they were in.

They are Cinderellas, but I entered 9 pages of them in my local society competition early 2010, just to make up the numbers, and to my surprise won the Stamp trophy. Suspect the judges didn't recognise them as Cinderellas, but was a local event not national level judges !

OK, I've found a reference to the subject set. Seems it was produced in 2 stages. First the four shown in the original post, then the 1 R single value. That explains the 4 on offer being called a set.

But now I'm confused about the total production. Literature (on internet) states that either 130 or 150 items were produced. I have been able to identify 116 perf and 21 of these repeated as imperf. So, a total of 116 or 137 ... either the writers are using rounded figures, or I am still missing something.

Then there are also supposed to be 17 Netherlands Indies and Indonesian stamps overprinted Maluku Selatan. :? :? :?

Edit: Footnote: This is the first post for 2011.

I hope this link helps a bit. There you can see that there were really overprints on Indonesian stamps issued.

I will compare what I have with the Vanstamps listing that Manuel posted, and then post up here anything that I have different.

The problems with the usual number of 130 or 150 is that everyone who writes about them simply repeats what has been said before, without checking the facts.

This is the best and most complete reference I have seen so far. Can't work out why I haven't found it via Google? It does look like the generally published information is indeed repeats of incomplete data.

A gazillion thanks for providing that link. Sadly, it looks like some of the early overprints will be well outside my budget.

So, I make it 120 items not counting imperfs and the original overprints, and 195 items all up.

It appears there were 3 separate origins for these cinderellas. From google enotes (extract):

Quote:
Although the Republic of South Moluccas did not issue its own postage stamps, several stamps bearing the country's name can be found. They are so-called bogus stamps, which are private stamp issues and were not issued by any postal administration of the South Moluccas.

There are three distinct bogus stamp issues of the Republic of South Moluccas:

1. Overprints
2. Stamp issues of the exile government in the Netherlands
3. Stamps from the Österreichische Staatsdruckerei (Austrian National Print Office).

Overprints In 1950, 17 stamps of the Dutch East Indies and Indonesia were overprinted with "Republik Maluku Selatan". Many philatelists believe that the stamps could have been used locally. However, the majority assumes that they are stamp forgeries.

Stamp issues of the exile government in the Netherlands Several one- and three-coloured stamp issues of South Moluccas lacking the date of issue are known. They were possibly sold by the exiled government in the Netherlands.

Stamps ordered and sold by Henry Stolow In 1955, approximately 150 coloured triangular or rectangular stamp forgeries by New York and Munich stamp dealer Henry Stolow (1901-1971) appeared on the market without a date of issue. ... They were never used for postage, so there are only mint copies.

Groups 2 and 3 can be distinguished by the spelling:

Group 2 = Repoeblik Maloekoe Selatan
Group 3 = Republik Maluku Selatan

Thanks everyone for this thread with the great link and explanations.

As a Ned-Indie/Indonesia collector it is hard to avoid these along with the Austrian printed Repobloek Indonesia issues.

I have been trying to get from MH to mint with the Malukkus, and the Repobloek Indonesia issues, not there yet. And now not there yet by a mile

Have 11 different flower issues and 7 different butterflies for exchange in case anyone is interested

Happy Stamper

^^ Yes, putting sets together has been difficult, mainly because I didn't know what was in each set, they are not catalogued because they are not regular stamps, and most sellers only offer part sets because they don't know either.

At least I have a list now, and have decided to only collect the perfs. That covers all issues, and the imperfs would only be face duplicates.

At present, I am still missing the Indonesian overprints, the Repoeblik map set, and the balloon overprint.

I did have to buy a lot of fragmented sets to make complete sets, but fortunately they are relatively inexpensive. The early ones not so, up to $825 each.

Hi muruk,

maybe you can show scans of the sets as you complete them. I have these ten stamps if you are interested at all. You can have them if need be.

First row, stamp 1 is hinged, stamp 2 hinged and damaged on back from removal from someones album, stamp 3 hinged with paper leftover.
Second row, stamp 1 hinged with paper, stamp 2 same, stamp 3 looks MNH.
Third row, both hinged and second stamp has a small bit of paper left.
Fourth row, both look MNH but first stamp has a crease.

I didn't know if muruk needed proof of existance for these stamps for his project and as such would prefer them to go to him. If he doesn't want them then you are more than welcome to them as I do not collect them.

Drew

Hi Happy Stamper,

postage is never wasted and you were more than welcome to any or all of the stamps. I will give them to someone else if not wanted here. (Part of my spring cleaning) :D Maybe to one of the younger Stampboarders as fillers for thier collection.

You probably won't get any takers on this thread.

I think you will need to offer them up on a separate thread to attract attention.

When I gave away my remnants some months ago, they seemed pretty popular.

Great assembly of all the photos folks. 8)

Can we do a written summary of WHAT these were and why they were issued etc, and by whom?

THEN when anyone ever googles - "Republik Maluku Selatan Stamps" - the entire story, with photos, will be all on this thread. AND the photo thread if posted there too.

Hello Muruk,

I am a new member and I read that you are collecting O.P.M. stamps. May I ask you several questions concerning O.P.M. stamps, please? I tried to contact you by e-mail, but I simply got the system information that it is not permitted for me to send e-mails to members (why???). Although I asked the admin in this case, I just got silly(!!!) answers instead of helping me in this case. Therefore, I ask you to let me know your private e-mail address, please. Please, simply send a contact mail to: webmailadress@web.de. Thanks a lot, Roland (Austria).
