Very nice aardvark!

When we can read the imprint, you have mastered image posting.

So how do I put an avatar on my profile? I can do all of it you said except I don't get the part about posting it to my "post box"? What's that? I don't have that...or do I? Timbres

Glen?
Margo?
Up until now I really didn't think I was such a dill!
I have had the appropriate scanner for some time now and have finally found time to use it.
I opened up the "Photobucket" site via the "add any image here" link and ended up in an area where I was being asked how I would like to make my payments?
I got out of there and when I tried again to open a new account, I was told my username was already taken.
When you use a system all the time every nuance is but second knowledge but when you try for the first time things that may seem so easy to others are mountains to me.
Do I have to go through all 25 pages of the tutorial to find out about updates etc or as the fist entry indicates, everything is updated to suit?
Cheers,
Frank (Electric Chook)
P.S. The answer I am after may well lie within the previous 25 pages but I do not have the time avail;able to read them all particularly if the answer is not there.

I'll dust off my reading glasses now and hopefully soon post up some pictures. :D

Just practicing to see if I can get these bird stamps scanned and posted. So...how do I make the image bigger?

To make an image bigger you have to scan it at a higher dpi.

With avatars, you use the same procedure as you have been using here but you will have to make the image smaller (try 160 x 160).

Try scanning at say 300 dpi (if not already) and the images will be larger for placing into your posts.

Regarding your avatar, you could crop the white spaces a bit so that there is not too much white around the image (just a suggestion) unless you like it that way. :)

These are some stamps I have that are not cataloged or labeled in any way. Just seeing if I could post a decent image of them. :D Is it best to use digital images or to scan them and upload the scanned picture?

Croft,

The majority of Stampboarders use Photobucket which seems to work very well here. With the image you just posted above, what I see is a frog in an ice cube and not the image you intended for us to see.

I have posted some photographs on another thread.

Photobucket seems to have changed since I last used it. I have rotated vertical-format photos in both my own computer's files and in Photobucket's editing process but they have still come out sideways in the thread. Here's an example.

Image

I have read the last few pages of this thread but cannot find this problem referred to. Can anyone help, please?

Many thanks,

Thanks, Gutters.

In future I will 'save a copy' instead of 'replace original'.

In the meantime, someone has fixed the problem on my 'holiday' thread, so thank you someone.

Well done.

As we advise the free google PICASA is a brilliant prgram to use and super easy to navigate!

It is all I ever use.

Thanks Glen. I find Picasa really easy to use. The only thing that puzzled me for a while was how to save an edited image. I kept reverting to the original (crooked!) image. I've cracked it now: you have to click on File, then Save. Obvious really, except to a Dumbo like me....

The answer to 'how does this look' is excellent.

As far as tips for better quality scans, it would be best if you tell us how this was produced. We don't know the quality of the original so we don't know if it could be better. What resolution did you use on your scanner?

Hello Kevin,

The scan was done on my HP scanner at 1200dpi. I cropped it and resized it in Picasa as mentioned here (fanatastic program by the way) to 800x600. I used the revenue stamp as a test because I thought the colors would display beautifully.

Then I have no further thoughts on improving the image. As far as I can see it meets every requirement.

Just checking - new to the site, and I tend to scan LARGE!!! So I've had to scale down, and want to see how well it fits - I've reduced this down about 4 times the size...

Looking good, methinks. Not the most shining example for a stamp, though!

Yes, but I was practising :D

Got plenty of scans of good stamps, just wanted to know that I can link them from my hosting (perks of being a web developer - never paid for hosting space, and it's (theoretically) unlimited 8) )

Ok, here goes first try. Question about plate blocks - I think I understand the basics but what about these with the zip code guy and the copyright? Are they considered plate blocks? What about older stamps like from the 1940s or 1950s? These were scanned at 400dpi and then I used another program to scale it to 800 x 600 and to crop off the excess. Did not use Picasa yet, just Photobucket and GIMP (already on my computer which I use for work purposes).

They don't seem as detailed or up close as some others? Is that the scanning or is that re-scaling that I need to change. Old postcard next.

So far had problems with the postcard. Trying again. Have realized that before uploading to Photobucket, to use whatever editing software (ie, Picasa or in my case GIMP that I use for work purposes). Still not as clear but were scanned at 300dpi or maybe 400dpi.

Thanks! Now I just need to remember the proper process:

1) scan in at a fairly high resolution (300dpi or higher) with dark background
2) use Editing software (like Picasa) to crop excess and make any changes; save as .jpg
3) upload via Photobucket having set Customize to get 800x600 size and save image in album
4) go to Stampboards forum, choose Post Reply and write whatever text
5) go back to Photobucket, choose the image and copy IMG code (with ALT-C)
6) go back to my message and and paste the IMG code (with ALT-V); add any other text if desired
7) Click PREVIEW to make sure it looks the way I want
8 ) If all okay, then click SUBMIT
