yes, sorry about butting in like that.

According to the rules ... butting in is permitted.

Only thing to be wary of is too many questions running at once ... tends to get us tangled up.

Answer one question and win the right to ask the next seems to be in vogue at the moment, although it's not an absolute rule.

Here's tricolours' question to save flicking back a page:

What John Wayne movie was the inspiration for the Buddy Holly song 'That'll be the day' ?

Don't know the name, but if it helps anyone, I think it was a civil war film. John Wayne used that line in the film. I could be wrong, so take the hint with a grain of salt.

No, his neice had been kidnapped by indians.

I meant the "era" of the film. Anyway, I just googled it to be sure, so I can't comment further, but my hint with tricolours all mesh.

I don't remember too many Wayne films (I'm too young  ) but I'll guess True Grit.

Nah, True Grit was about a young lady going off into Indian Territory to track down her father's murderer. No kidnapping that I recall.

I'm not a John Wayne fan, so I can't help more than that with the question.

Buddy Holly died in 1959 so the movie was made before then.

John Ford directed the movie.
(could'nt get the picture of the stamp to show up)

Stamp the Legend: John Ford to Receive Commemorative U.S. Stamp in 2012
by pappysgirl on August 5, 2011

The U.S. Postal Service announced today the latest in the continuing "Legends of Hollywood" series of U.S. postage stamps will focus on directors and the first is appropriately dedicated to John Ford. Ford's philatelic commemoration will debut in 2012, and there is something apt about its being a "forever" stamp, one that will always be equal in value to current First Class postage rates. Timeless, and about time.

The illustration selected is composed of an image on the left capturing John Wayne with his back turned as he walks away in the iconic finale of *** *********, and a portrait of Ford on the right.

Ohhh, I know....gahhhhh what is it....on the tip of my tongue...

Got it, The Searchers.

He went with his nephew to get his niece back. The "First Nations People" (the politically-correct term currently in vogue, though the Canadian government still has a "Ministry of Indian Affairs  ) murdered the rest of the family and burned the homestead.

He and the nephew seemed to travel hi and lo, with lots of fake snow applied to the stage set to change the season once or twice. :o Oh and the scene with the heavy-set native "squaw" is hilarious.

Yes that was the story line. Natalie Wood was the niece & Geoffrey Hunter played the adopted nephew, The movie was called The Searchers.

Bi = two?

I enjoy an Italian product called biscotti. Best dunking biscuit ever. Its baked in a loaf, then sliced into wafers, then baked again.

So I will reason "baked twice".

A camel with two humps is called a Bactrian Camel.

What's the specific name for a camel with one hump?

Four/Five questions. (Here to learn/confirm)

I don't know the answers for certain but "muruk" probably will as this is his specific area of interest.

How many different types of Macropods (Large Feet - I think) are there in Australia(?)

Kangaroos, Wallabies, Paddymelons .....

I read at Healesville Sanctuary, Outer Outer East of Melbourne, there are some 200 types. Correct(?)

And, as far as I can remember, they are not found anywhere else. Is this correct(?)

And the tail is used to counterbalance the bounding motion(?)

About 50 extant species.

Also found in New Guinea and nearby islands.

Yes, tail provides balance.

More details in the last few days' posts on the GOMC thread.

I can't speak for other countries, but in Canada it is the supposed day of the visitation of the magi.

Correct. In English it is the arrival of the three wise men. Which, of course, goes against all beliefs if we look at the actual birth of Jesus. Most stories would have us believe that the three wise men visited Jesus on the night of his birth.
Also does anyone know why he was born in a stable?

Caesar Augustus ordered a census of all the Roman Empire so everyone had to travel to their own city to be registered. Travellers all over the place. Therefore, no room at the inn.

Excluding the Kangaroo and map & the KGV sideface issues;

What are the Australian stamps, with no change in there design or colour, that have had 3 different imprints?

There are 3.

May be in the wrong thread, but l couldn't find any other more approppriate than this.
l am looking for some advice in a group of certain caribbean islands, which from a philatelic point of view, have been confusing me.
I know of the existance of a country denomintaed Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and, of course, of Grenada.
As a matter of fact, l have recalled on both of them when l was a sailor.
But, l have seen stamps from St Vincent, Grenadines of St Vincent, St Vincent and the Grenadines, l think Beqaa or Mustique (not sure which one of them or perhaps both).
My question is:
Are some of the denominations mentioned above illegal issues ?; a stamp from The Grenadines of Saint Vincent exists by itself?, is it valid only in the archipelago and not in the main island, St Vincent?.
Why do so many name combinations exist? ; is it a way of doubling or triplicate revenue?
If so, maybe one day we have something like Australia, Australia and Tasmania, Tasmania of Australia, Federation of Australia and its territories, etc.

But the real reason is that Mary and Joseph hadn't booked a room and none were left because it was Christmas time.

Is it that thing that people had on their desks in the 70s - with the chromium-plated balls on strings?

I want to call it "Cat's Cradle", but that might be something completely different...

Here's a hint ... these days it's found in casinos.

Pascal did a lot of his mathematical work in the field of probability. Remember Pascal's triangle from high school?
