That seller seems to have a lot of (supposedly) rare material for sale. By the look only 1 item has a cert. and the certifier isn't named (which you would do if you're trying to sell something).

The British Guiana one is interesting

Anyone who'd pay US$85,000 for something in an online market and that's without a cert. from a well recognised expertising authority, needs to visit a good psychiatrist

Yes it looks like he has a whole range of fantasy products. Maybe he stumbled upon an old cinderella lot or something.

Where does he come up with a wonky number like that?

And don't forget the $2.98 shipping.

Will capture an image of the British Guiana later. The text of the lot reads

Quote:
Two Iron Ink Ship cancals, mounted on peice, printed prior to the Megenta, Vary few known to exist, used unlisted , Extreamly Rare. CV $10,000.00 Peice- Wove Paper Stamp -Laid Paper Forgeries known to exist were copied from an origional stamp, This is the origional stamp, Containing the lower case Q- Witch was forged before the printing of the Megenta or the Blue, If copies were to of been made after the printing of the Megenta or Blue issue, The Q would of been capitalized, Take a close look, This is the origional!

Its unlisted, yet has a catalogue value...

Its wove paper and laid paper? Guess he means the stamp is laid and the envelope fragment its attached to is wove?

Not sure what he's trying to say about the forgeries? I think the timeline goes: this stamp -- forgeries of this stamp -- the magenta issue.

His spelling on this lot is a superb contender for how the school system is failing.

Lots of Indian material on offer, tonymacg, ikanek and their Indian mates I'm sure would have a lot to say about those. :o The Kashmir sheet looks familiar, is that the one discussed on another thread that someone had on offer for something ridiculous like $250,000, and in their feedback was the same item with them as the buyer, for about 1% of that price?

What I want to know is, if its unlisted, how can it have a catalogue value?

And which catalogue?

Throwing out a fantastic number like $10,000 and then saying "but look, you can have this one from me for only $2,995" is no better than the Australian eBay sellers that have been named-and-shamed in the past for inventing inflated "detail retail" figures in the descriptions of their material.

I like the Tag Line Artist unknown, could he mean the artist who created the whole auction scenario, or the artist who manufactured the sheet of stamps.

The real worry to me is that it seems almost no matter what auction site you visit there is one two or three of these visionaries selling the product.Visionaries of course because they see things that most others of us do not.

There is something to mbe said for dealers auctions selling their own stock when credibility is paramount.I can see protection there that I cannot see on a lot of sites,

Call me a crawler if you must, but Id rather deal with someone like that sherrif dude from Castle crag nee Hunters Hill, at least we all know where he lives lol and there is no extra fees or buyers commision and similar, its just a shame his logistics service is dependant on how well he sleeps. Not tham I am complaining, I wouldnt dare.

Yes this is quite interesting. I have about five different catalogues containing France here, including a couple of specialty ones, and none of them says anything about this Bonaparte essay. I also couldn't find any information on the internet about it. Maybe I'm wrong, and this thing is real (I don't know much about the other "stamps" he is offering), but I'm afraid it's all fake. Louis did take over France in December 1848.

Just beware of the driveway if you pay a visit. 8)

driveway, agreed , but to call it a driveway maybe to exaggerate a little, however to call it a walkway would be an outright lie would it not.

A very generous 'mark up' on the Tassie stamp, bearing in mind it was purchased for £108. See ebay item:

And a bit more detail, it's a defaced plate reprint not any sort of "proof".
The "pen cancel" is actually the 2 chisel marks where the chisel punched through the plate face of each stamp.

Aaah, I had seen those before and I was wondering what they are. I thought it was part of the stamp design. I'm assuming they are not of real collectors value, unless you're telling a story about the plates being stolen?

Hi Hendriks
Please check out the Philatelic forgery section - there's some recent info there on these cancelled Tassie stamps.
Cheers

Steve :)

Now you've made me go look.
The plates would have been defaced at the end of their life, not stolen.
Standard practice in "them olden days"! :D

They did that with the Cape Triangles "Woodblocks" (COGH), but didn't deface them well enough and when someone got permission (years later) to do a reprint found that the plate printed almost perfectly as original stamps!

I've just been having a belated look at his offerings. Caused a rather sharp drawing in of the breath, I must say.

Item 270864992365: A dozen mint copies of Jammu & Kashmir SG O6 (of 1880, not 1867 as advertised) current catalogue value a very generous £2.50 each, for $US159.95. Well, just goes to show what happens when you rely on Scott for years of issue and values.

I was rather taken with this one, too

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Japan-Gunmaken-Dynasty-Rare-Silk-imperf-4-margins-Mint-NH-/280782836795

Described as "Japan - Gunmaken Dynasty , Rare Silk imperf, 4 margins Mint! NH" Obviously my studies in Japanese history are seriously deficient, because I don't recall ever learning about a Gunmaken Dynasty. I do recall a Gunma-ken or Gunma Prefecture ...

Rawls2010 also reveals that it is a "Vary early Japan, Imperf, Silk stamp private die - Raw Silk of Gunmaken, extremely Rare, No other examples are known to exist." Yes, well ... And if I swore off the grog and fags for a week or so, I could afford the piffling $US6,500 Rawls2010 is asking for it.

Merci beaucoup Ceres! I found 19 different colors of this stamp for 100 euro here http://www.daviddelhaye.com/en/vente_publique/theme/essais_epreuves/timbres/1256.html

Looks like a printing company that was using it as a way to display their technical abilities at the time. Mystery solved.
