Hi All
I just saw this lot on Ebay 6 pre decimal FDC bidding started at 99c its now up to $1225-00 .
I will admit I don't know a lot about the value of these covers ,it still has a couple of hours to go.
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... 500wt_1183
Are they worth it?

Brian

Considering who has bid on them and the sudden (and weird) mega jump in bids I would leave it to the bunnies.
I don't see something that would take my breath away, except for the last 2 bids!
But who knows?

Might be an idea to post the images?

Snowy please take a close read of this and comply with all the OTHER info you have left out.

As to value $1225 is about right.

$12.25 that is.

Total Ebay cretins at work here.

Why the second bid at over $1200? If one guy made a mistake and bid $1225 instead of $12.25 by mistake why was his bid beaten? Can you set any automatic sniping software or anything to automatically overbid anyone? I don't understand this? It is so odd. I don't know AU FDC but it seems like sheer insanity.

Ok so I'm not really into pre decimal... But I can't honestly see any cover in that lot that I would pay more than a $1 for.

Maybe we're all missing something. Or it's just bunny behavior.

It is ebay.

Clueless seller calls these common FDC "rare" and the Bunnies do the rest.

As I posted $12.25 on a VERY good day, from a real dealer.

Well, I guess the seller is happy with the item being bidded up so high.

But will the bunny buyer pay?

More money than common sense?

I think $7.99 is about the last serious bid.

I doubt anyone would snipe a few hours before auction end ... they must be manual bids.

What are we missing here? apart from total stupidity ... oh wait, we didn't miss that.

Actually 2 of the covers are ok. One is a Haslem cover, another is a Rex Bodin cover. Both of those are certainly worth more than a $1!

As Jack says, the two 1947 Princess FDCs are worth a few $ each, but no more than that. The rest are 99c box stuff.

Bunnies or not, there's obviously something that doesn't gel here which is not a revelation to anyone following the bidding trend.

One bidder making a quantum leap of $1,194 in one bid is extraordinary, but to be followed by the current over bidder's $1,210 smells more than Xmas day's prawn shells in the bin.

The two bids from the under bidder are the only 30 day activities with this seller, the top bidder has no bid activity in the past 30 days except for two bids with this seller.

So what ! Possibly very motivated buyers, but can't help but have this funny feeling as to why TWO bidders can see $1200 + value here.

Bearing in mind that 'ebay' accounts can and have been hacked.....

Good luck to the seller who must be wetting his pants in anticipation, here's hoping it comes off for you.

If it doesn't there's always second chance offer. :D Gotta watch this one to the death !

As I sell pre-decimal covers, next time I must remember to be more generous with the use of "scarce", all bunnies please note, the queue starts here.

Perhaps I could open a "Rest Home" for all these people who bid these fantastic amounts of Money on such investment material.
I could charge them Hundreds of Dollars,in therapy Fees, trying to get them to hold onto their cash,so they could pay my Fees.

I just KNEW all this useless junk would have its day.      He He He He,their coming to take me away

Some bunnies who don't have Sniping Software probably put in a ridiculously high bid so that they will win the lot, but don't expect it to be beaten !

Would like to see if the buyer gets his money for these, and if the idiot buyer actually pays !

D.

That is what I thought happened. But if you really wanted that why bid that high to ensure the win? I guess we will never know!!! Try $100 or $50 max if you just had to have these covers for some reason!

In my previous post I said that they were weird mega jumps in bidding. That is because I had looked at all the bids including automatic incremental bids.

The bids went from about $15 straight to $1200 because someone put in a single mega bid and someone else put in a single mega bid over the top of it.

There was no $20,40,100 or $1,000 bids.

I didn't realise that "Snipe" was spelt "Stupid"!

Besides isn't a snipe bid only activated right at the end of the auction, not 2hrs before?

Very fishy.

We should have a look at the feedback in some days to see who is happy - the seller or the successful bidder, maybe both?

I think the first high bid was just an expensive typo as was said in one of the posts above.

The last high bidder may just have been a naive newbie that though there was something extraordinary there and wanted to get in on the "action".

If that was the case, he'll be in for an awful shock when he finds out the truth

Sorry,
the first high bid did only show $16.00 up to 02-Jan-12 16:50:47,
as the - at this time - successful bid is only one step above the second.
One second later the great step occured!

If it was a faulty bid, there should have been time enough - more than two hours - to delete it.

I really hope it's not someone new to stamp collecting...

Spend $1225 on that and then realise they are worth $5 the lot, they sure won't stay collecting stamps for long - or they'll go bankrupt.

Perhaps someone thought they were special FDC's that you can roll up and smoke.

That's strange, there's a jar of Colombian Gold coffee in the pantry, however I'd pass on trying to smoke it.

Tastes much too good with cream and sugar.....

I am still willing to bet that there will be no AUD1,225 or AUD1,200 transferred as part of this sale. But, time will tell.

Thank you Glen. I'll take one from Cuba. I need to start a Swami Norm I know all, and see all thread.

At AUD20 per pop I will predict what will happen in the future of stamps. A minimum of 50 year trends of course.

As a FDC collector I wil add my 2c.
Four of these are $1 each, another is better, and the sixth I do not know about,
but unlikely to be worth $1200 :? :? :?

That's because it's that sixth one that's rare

You know nothing about it because you've never seen such a rare item.

Well lets see if they 'sell' for $1225 this time.

eBay just gets more crazy.

It looks like everything this guy sells is allegedly 'RARE'. One lot (of Aust year 2003 FDC's) was described as being "EARLY" .... I'd call them pretty modern, not early.

Group of 19 pre-decimal covers with 15 first day covers & 3 flight covers attributed to scarce cover producer Higgins as well as one addressed to him which we think is Southern Cross printers. One of the flight covers round Australia flight with postmarks from every capital city at back. Truely a scarce group

Hmm.

I'd challenge some of those identifications as being Higgins or rare.

1946 Mitchell: Rex Bodin, quite a common cover, though rather scarcer with red text.

1952 1/0½d Blue KGVI: Bob Haslem, common

1952 2/6d Aborigine: Bob Haslem, fairly common

Higgins may have prepared the covers & posted them to himself, but the three covers mentioned above were produced by other makers.

I have also seen the 1949 Lawson attributed to Rossiter of Melbourne, though this is not a confirmed ID.
