Sure it's not a great example with damaged perfs & an unattractive postmark- which is nevertheless not really impinging on the flaws at all.
perfsImage

It's 92(4) ga, the rarest cliche in the Die 2's by a long way. Catalogued at $800, the full price was $46.

John Hill- aussiebanker- knew exactly what it was & I think it was a very generous price.

This is a Type B re-entry, with long middle stroke to last E of THREE, duplicated shading above the right wattles, the 8th line right of the crown missing, & shading voids right of LIA.

Thanks, John.

Here are four that I have picked up in the last 6 weeks.

The first 3 came in fairly large eBay lots that I bought from overseas dealers. :D

The 4th also came from another overseas on line auction site, sold as a single stamp but not identified with the flaw.

There are still good finds to be made, you just need a little luck and sometimes a good eye :!:

Nice Bill.

Looks like a nice bullet hole on the second stamps as well (between 'A' and 'G' of postage).

I picked this up on Ebay for $14 as far as I know it is only the 2nd copy known.
We also found the 1st copy that Lance Skinner reported in ACCC of NSW March 2010 he wrote = without
doubt a previously unrecorded imprint from plate 3.

The ACSC only lists this in brown printings.

Weird Al do mine fall into the rare category or are these more common than we think? I picked these up on ebay in 2007 for $12.

PS: Oh I missed the "Brown Printings" comment.....sigh.

Purchased on Delcampe and received last week and costing me only 15 Euros is this nice postcard it has a 6c Dented frame tied to it with a catalogue value of £150 plus time 30 that for being on a cover = £4500.

Bit grubby I know but good old Delcampe keep them coming.

Hi,

I recently bought this cover on Delcampe:

Image

Image

The cover was mailed from Kuwait to Iraq in 1962 and includes both Kuwaiti and Iraqi censorship markings. A bit doggy, but it is the first such cover that I have seen.

Note the delay between the Kuwait cancel on the front and the Basra cancel on the back.

Best wishes,
AndrewG

What are such items worth, covers with these modern censor markings? Prices for Cambodian censored covers of the 1970s are a bit "all over the place" on ie. eBay, with the usual 'problem' of sellers overpricing. Given the condition of the cover, if I saw it going for $5 or less I might buy it as its 'interesting', but wouldn't spend a lot on it.

aethelwulf;

I do know what you are saying. Had this cover been censored in 1967, perhaps even $5.00 would have been too much.

However this cover was mailed in 1962, at about the time that the Iraqi leader, General Kassem, threatened an invasion of Kuwait. The censorship seems to have been applied only to mail that was coming from or going to Iraq at this time.

For reference: "Postal Censorship in Kuwait during the Iraqi Threat of 1961" by Dr. Mashael A. Alhajeri, in Civil Censorship Study Group Bulletin, vol. 37, no. 2, Number 166, April 2010, pp. 72 - 75 and reprinted in Arabian Gulf States Postal History Quarterly, Edition 35, Summer 2010, pp 19 - 24

The number of known covers to the writer of the article is less than 10, of which this is the only example of a censored cover going to Iraq. My guess is that more should exist. Perhaps your doubts, given the condition of this cover, will prove correct.

Best wishes,
Andrew

Just received this strip of 3d die II roos in an Ebay purchase lot of about 60 roos - surprised I won this lot with the die II being obvious - there were also another two die II 3d roos in the lot

Image

Does anyone know if there is a premium for strips of 3.

I asked about this piece months ago on Stampboards, some people said it was worthless, others thought it may have some value.

I talked to the seller and ended up getting it cheaper than his original BIN price, total cost around $5. :)

I thought it was interesting, so I bought it. I know condition is rough.

500+ German inflation stamps used. Catalogue values average £2 / $3 per stamp, without taking account of some of these being in BIG chunks.

Just won these on ebay for $10.09 US (+ $4.95 postage to UK), so total of about $15 = £10.

Good deal?

Part of a lot I paid $40 for. The rest of the lot is just about worth the cost. I was not taking any risk as this stamp is catalogued £130 for normal but £1600 with this flaw «dot missing on first i of British» Bechuanaland SG 7a. I was still anxious to receive it and confirm the unmentioned flaw. Looks good to me. It looks like it had been signed by some expert a long time ago. Anyone has an idea on whom was that expert?

ImageImage

The scan has reddened the stamp, true color is more purple.

(not an expert, but I do collect German stamps)

Gavin,
I would have bought them.

As (probably)CTO's they are not worth the $3 ea. But, with the Michel German Specialized you can look for a variety of plate and overprint flaws on these issues. And, for $15 you can make a pretty nice collectors page of plate blocks and cancels.
Hopefully, these are official remainders, and not someone finding or making a canceller and going to town on sheets of unused, which are quite common.
There seems to be a lot of "facsimile" and outright fraud on cancels of German stamps coming out of Europe, as seen on EBay.
Also, looking close, there may be a postal cancel in the lot, which on some of these issues can be quite valuable.

Best to you and good luck,
pat

Malta 1925 postage dues set to 2d in tête-bêche pairs from eBay, catalogued at (basic prices for two stamps):

½d - €2.30
1d - €4
1½d - €4.70
2d - €12

Total price for twice the basic stamps €23. Tête-bêche pairs usually retail for twice that price.

... all for £3.71 + £1.50 P&P.

Duh!

Just realised taht I hadn't said why the stamp was special. The 1 of the 1/2 or the surcharge is shifted to the left.

I bought this last night for $13 and it as just described as: 3d CABLE BLOCK OF 4 MUH.

The seller was: edenzac. Tim doesn't usually miss varieties.

Item number: 110834795895

Unless I'm mistaken the top left stamp has the retouch to the right of the headland. (ACSC 1B L25)

Image

I am putting together a one frame exhibit on this value and I am on the lookout for interesing covers, a Post Office Publicity Card and the 3d value CTO from the specimen packs.

Picked up in a recent mixed lot. Rocket mail vignette unused still has gum on back I think. Signed and dated by Stephen W Smith himself. Not sure if its valuable or not but a nice little colourful addition to me collection.

The Cable set, genuinely CTO, is a rare beast. Beware of stamps soaked off FDCs. It has to have the correct Melbourne CTO cancel.

BTW, I agree the 3d in the block looks to have the retouch.

Hello,
This pair is a close up of some I posted last night. Looks like the KGV thin 1 on left stamp right side. In the ACSC I have,. it looks like
5R43. I'm I right?

The SG # is 48a. The reason I ask, is it is listed for over $100. and I paid $22.00 along with the others I posted a few posts back.

Please look and tell me I'm right :D

I looks like it. Here is a block I purchased from the late Simon Dunkerly. The thin fraction is the top left stamp (R43 as you correctly state). I assume yours (like mine) is Large Multi WMK.

Thank you very much Peter. Yes it is Large Multi WMK. Looks like I finely found a bargain

This same lot has a 1924, 1½d LLA flaw wmk 5. 23R23
1918 1½d Black-Brown, Long top bar to second E of three, 3L22 in my ACSC.

Thanks again Peter you've always helped me out.

If you ever find the thin fraction in Single WMK you really will have hit the jackpot. Very scarce, due to teh short life of the error in that WMK. :D

I did notice the lot you posted elsewhere (that this pair came from), didn't have time to make any comments then. A very good buy. :D

These retouches are as common as dirt. That's 2 in 2 days.

I just picked up this one on Quicksales for $15. Same position in the block as the other one above.

The same seller had this for $5. Condition is not perfect, but still O.K. for the price of a cup of coffee.

Won these 2 covers for US $1.21, add $2.00 post. They came with 40 or so other Australian stamps. The covers are what I wanted.
The line across the bottom is from the holder.

Nice Jack. All the stamps are serving the specific purpose for which they were issued. It looks like the 1/6d Hermes is canceled 1938? Interesting use of the term US Enclave in teh address.

Your right Peter, looks like 31 DE 38. Never looked close at the address until you mentioned it. I have no idea what U.S. Enclave is.

The use of the term enclave suggests US Territory. I suppose it might actually mean a Consulate in Bremen, in this case.

The US Enclave was established at the end of the war in 1945. The US did not have a seaport in its occupation zone so it was given an area, I think near Bremerhaven, for its shipping needs. Check the cancel date - it might be 1948. The last 1/6 Hermes series was issued in February 1948.

Regards
Frank

Thanks Frank
It's impossible to tell if it's 3 or 4.

SG has it listed as #153, issued Dec 1, 1934, no WMK P 11.

The one I have on the envelope is listed as SG #153a, issued
Oct 22, 1937, WMK CofA, p 13½X14.

In the Scott Catalog, same dates but listed as C4 and C5

It looks to be a No WMK (Line Perf) stamp, so very unlikely to be as late as 1948. I think it is simply a fairly archaic use of a term that was not in regular use by the 1930s.

Hi all,

Don't know if the below count as a bargain, but I haven't seen the long toms on parcel piece before. Paid $11.50

I thought this 1858 South Australia 6d Blue with Rouletted Perf Error was a good buy for $A5.

From The Full Wiki http://www.thefullwiki.org/Bremerhaven

"Bremerhaven was one of the important harbours of emigration in Europe.

As a key base of the Kriegsmarine, most of the city was destroyed in the Bombing of Bremen in World War II; however, key parts of the port were deliberately spared by the Allied forces to provide a usable harbour for supplying the Allies after the war. All of Wesermünde, including those parts, which prior did not belong to Bremerhaven, was a postwar enclave run by the United States within the British zone of northern Germany. In 1947 the city became part of the Bundesland Bremen (Bremen Federal State) and was consequently renamed from Wesermünde to Bremerhaven. Today, Bremerhaven is therefore part of the city-state of Bremen, practically being a state of two cities, while also a city in its own right. This is complicated somewhat by the fact the city of Bremen has owned the "overseas port" within Bremerhaven since 1927. Further complicating matters, a treaty between the two cities (as mentioned in Section 8 of Bremerhaven's municipal constitution) makes Bremerhaven responsible for the municipal administration of those parts owned directly by Bremen (known as stadtbremisch).[2]"
