I certainly think it is something in the users' email database.

I suggest everybody who has more than one active email address switch to another one in the User Control Panel. This will first deactivate your membership - a notice is sent to your NEW address! - and then the mods will reactivate your membership. But beware, if too many people do this it may cause delays in everything and overwhelm the mods.

I did this after a week or more with no Topic Reply notifications, and they have been coming ever since.

Nope :(

Changed to another AOL address I have - waited to be reactivated, which I found I had been by logging in - and sent myself an email message.

Nothing received at all - looks like there's a problem with AOL addresses

I can only speak for the Topic Reply notifications not board emails from other members. But it may well be that aol had blocked the source IP. They did that with ours once.

AOL are legendary for making their own arbitrary decisions on what is 'spam' and what is not.

Why anyone ever signs up with them and pays them a red cent mystifies me, as they have been having that issues for decades.

I suggest those having issues go to our control panel and add take OUT any AOL address you have here, and add any other free address you have, and see if that works.

Free google (gmail) addresses can be "pointed" to AOL then, via gmail "preferences" if you wish, and all will be back to normal. All email to 'fred456@gmail.com' will end up in seconds into your AOL account just like normal.

All will arrive nicely in your AOL inbox, as AOL in their vast wisdom do not believe gmail is a spammer. Durrrhhhh.

So can those getting NO email advices, try that please, and report back.

Seems I'm having trouble getting Board emails. Checked my spam filter and it's ok. Sent myself an email and didn't get it. Maybe a Mod could send me one?
Thanks

I had another go at AOL yesterday and eventually they passed me to somebody who bothered to listen to what I was telling them - that THEY were blocking emails, not that I (the dim user) was filtering them out myself.

And buried away in a reply received today -

Quote:
Contact AOL Postmaster:

If you're still not able to receive emails sent from a specific sender, please request the sender's email service provider to contact AOL Postmaster.

Note: For more information, please visit the AOL Postmaster website - http://postmaster.info.aol.com/

Which contains useful info:

Sending Mail to AOL

* Learn about IP Reputation, the Whitelist and Inbox delivery at AOL
* AOL's Bulk Sender Best Practices & Guidelines
* AOL Whitelist and CertifiedEmail programs for qualified senders
* Technical and Policy Requirements for Sending Email to AOL
* Feedback Loop information and application

Hopefully Byte can make some sense of this.

Dave.

Hah :!: - Now here's a clue -

I had a bit more of a poke around with whois, domain servers, hosts, IP addresses and IP Reputation (baffles me) ... the domain server "ns2.web-host.net" has an undisclosed reputation.

... and remembered there's also stampboards.net.

So, I logged in on stampboards.net and sent myself a message - and it worked :!: :D

Dave.

PS - Can somebody reply on stampboards.net please, to see if I get a 'topic reply notification' to this - Thanks.

Hi Margo.

Your test email from stampboards.net received - but no 'topic reply notification' from you having posted on this thread.

I think we're part way to working it out - need an expert now!

I have not received any notifications for weeks. Could you please send me a test email so that I can see if Stampboards.com is being blocked by my provider, comcast?

Thank you,

Clay

Comcast was another ISP that blocked our range of IP addresses at one time. Very sensitive apparently.

If SB is now located at a new IP that may be the problem.

Any progress with investigating this email problem please? .net works for me on email but not notifications, .com works on neither.

I tried signing up with gmail - but they couldn't handle my (UK) phone number to confirm the application

Are there any decent ISPs out there :?: :!:

Plusnet is one of the best UK ISPs (use norvic264 as your referrer!) - but surely that's nothing to do with the gmail problem.

I have two gmail account and had no problem adding the second one.

PS in case you haven't seen it see the FAQs here http://support.google.com/mail/bin/answ ... wer=114129

What phone number format did you use? If you used 0123 456789 try +44 123 456789

Today I will ask my ISP, Time-Warner, if they are blocking any of the SB addresses.

I will ask them about stampboards.com and stampboards.net, but should I ask about our new server source? If so, what is the proper commercial name of it, so they can check?

Time-Warner, my email provider and ISP, confirmed that there is no problem (i.e., no blacklist) for http://www.stampboards.com or .net. I'm still not getting notification emails.

I did change my email address and password, as instructed, more than a week ago.

After a lot of discussion, Time-Warner suggested that the Server at "ns2.web-host.com" (if that is correct) visit this website:

postmaster.rr.com/mail_blocks

to find out if their IP address is blocked for any reason, or for any other of a multitude of technical reasons which I don't understand.

This takes all the fun out of participating on Stampboards.

Much the same response I got from AOL -

Quote:
Dear Member,

Thank you for bringing this matter to us.

In line with your concern, we apologize for any inconvenience it may have caused you. With regard to your query about why AOL just dump it on the sender, please be guided that they need to contact AOL Postmaster in order for AOL to determine if there's also an issue in their email address that may be causing the problem you are experiencing.

Based on your previous email you mentioned that "No AOL users are receiving any email. Domain server for this site is ns2.web-host.net or ns.web-host.net. Emails must be being blocked at source." They may be several reasons why this is happening. There is a possibility that AOL may be blocking ns2.web-host.net or ns.web-host.net by reason of their reputation as source. To know more about this, please read this article: AOL's Unsolicited Bulk Email Policy http://postmaster.aol.com/Postmaster.Guidelines.php.

If the issue persists or you still have further questions, please don't hesitate to email us back.

Sincerely,

Victoria

Or to paraphrase - Yes, we may well be blocking this server but we're not going to believe YOU, and we're not going to do anything about it - if the sender wishes to send you emails, then they have to sort out the problem!

I emailed them back, they didn't reply :!:

I suggest that anyone with the problems listed above tells their ISP that they have checked with Cisco Senderbase IronPort security network and that both the stampboards.com and stampboards.net mailserver on domain web-host.net all have reputations rated as "Good" by Cisco which is far better than most.

See:http://www.senderbase.org/help/sbrs

They are also not on the Spamcop DNS black list.

Checked Time-Warner's Roadrunner for our mailserver reputation and got:

Return Path Reputation Network Blacklist : Not blocked by this list
Spamhaus (ZEN): Not blocked by this list
Road Runner Blocklist : Not blocked by this list
FBL Enrollment : Not Enrolled in FBL
Road Runner Internal Name-Based Block : Not blocked by this list
Cloudmark Sender Intelligence : Not blocked by this list
Return Path Sender Score Reputation Score : 95
No historical Road Runner Internal IP Address-Based block records for: ******** (IP address deleted).

Checked with AOL Postmaster and got (surprise, surprise):

Test Result
Reputation = Good

and their explanation for "Good":

What does a good reputation mean?
The IP address has a good reputation. This means AOL has enough data to determine that the IP address is a known mail sender with a good reputation. You should not be experiencing bounce or reject errors when sending mail from this IP.
Why am I receiving errors when trying to send mail to AOL?
Generally an IP address with a good reputation would not receive error messages when attempting to send mail to AOL members. If you are receiving error messages, and your mail server IP address/es have good reputations, please submit a postmaster support request.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Send me a board email and I'll give you more info. to send them if required.

I've noticed that if I don't visit a topic for some time, I'll stop getting notifactions, but when visiting it agin, will generate fresh notifactions (when a new posting have been made)

Unfortunately, I got only the ONE notification email, and they have stopped again.

This makes me absolutely certain the problem's at the SB server.
